Thank you so much for posting this. I purchased the CD of this performance years ago when my daughter was very young (maybe before she was born). We listened to it together often. She grew up listening to it. We recently found this song on RUclips and a few days ago, while taking her to high school we sang the line "when that dog becomes a stray" and she said, "Mom, that, that line right there, I think that is why I became a musician!" She is 16 and is the drummer for the high school Jazz orchestra. There is something sacred about the recording. Seeing the live version is a true gift. I recall the liner notes saying this live recording happened on September 11th. One duty of art and the artist is to put beauty and healing back into the world. Thank you for doing just that. I hope to sit in an audience with my daughter to see Mr. Sting perform live one day.
The emotion for the WTC attacks (the same day of thois concert) is palpable in the way Sting sings... and even in the way musicians play... Right place, wrong day... :(
As of now I practice Bass. My neighborhood sounds of Salsa and Dominacan soul. I feel this and I thrive. I feel a Brit in his prime. And I thrive. I can only hope that I can one day reach the heights that Sting, his band, and all great bands have reached. Very inspiring. I'm 52yrs. It's never to late.
It is, in fact, a masterful combination and a great re-working of both ...For me, though it's close, the crowning jewel is "A Perfect Love Gone Wrong" ...It is a a wonderful departure from the original that is much more enduringly memorable. cheers...
i like how he handled it when he sort of went off tune during "1000 years." you could see him draw back and refocusing himself. then he continued. it was, classy and subtle but present. it made him seem human in the best possible way. I never thought of these two songs as connected, but it does seem to emanate from the same desire.

Guys: we have hier a ordinary Bass (Christian McBride), the 'counterbass' and a violoncello (Jacques Morelenbaum), that is the ordinary 'bass' in the classical mode. But the functions of both instruments is most different in this case (and so in the other case too...). The Counterbass is most deep-sharp than the cello. The cello plays by bow and the bass with fingers. So, we have not two basses, but a cello and a bass.
