These old songs r sounds so beautiful. I won't tire of listens to them everyday. The people who composed these songs even though they r not here but always brings beautiful memories back in Samoa. I love it.
My husband grew up around Fa’anū and got to see and hear Fa’anū produce and play many of these classic and signature songs of his. My husband says his grandfather Tamā Leatulua Tu'ufuli of Fagatogo was the Warden for the Corrections Facility in Fagatogo at the time Fa’anū was a prisoner. The prison system then was more custodial as oppose to high security lock down units - and Tamā would usually have a large entourage of inmates he regularly brought home to the Tu'ufuli estates in Fagatogo where they did a lot of chores and grounds keeping and community work for the village. Fa’anū was one prisoners that frequently came up to the house with Tamā. My husband and his brothers would always hear Fa’anū play these timeless Samoan favorites up at the house and sing a long during many of his casual performances up at the house. We met up with him here in San Francisco before he moved to Sacramento. My husband wanted to post the lyrics as he remembers singing to them as a young lad in the hopes others would enjoy singing along. Le Tupulaga e o Samoa e
Tu'u ia lou inu pia
Ma e 'ona tevateva i le ala
Ma folafola lou lima
Ma e tuli i susū i luma o tagata
Fai mai ua na o le toa
Ae leiloa sou toa i mea fa’apenā
E puni ai lou mānava
(Repeat)
Ae o le mea lenā ua fa’apena ai
O lou le maua o le Atua
O lou le o’o i le falesā
Ae e te fiafia i tifaga
E lē mavae o le alofa o le Tamā o i luga
I se tagata fa’apena
Auā o ia e muamua lava o le alofa
Ae telegese lona to’asa (Repeat)
O uiga na e fai i lou lē malamalama
E te i'u ai lava i le leaga
Teine ‘aua e te ata fa’apenā
Fa’alogo mai ou taliga
'Aua e te ita pe e te fia misa
Se’i fai atu la’u tala
Afai e te nofo i se tama ta’atua
Fai oe ma solofanua
Na o le amo e fafafa i le papatua
E i’u ai o lou soifua
The lyrics are just beautiful... its so true, that we hear so many copycats and no originals. Thanks
