For the last few months, I've been sharing videos about composition, talking about different approaches to composition, the role composition has in making a great landscape image, and what you can do to improve your composition skills and create great landscape photos.
In this landscape photography tutorial vido, I talk about what you should consider and things you can do to discover those interesting compositions that create wonderful and engaging landscape images.
Your ability to find an engaging composition in a location comes down to your Observation Skills. Instead of jumping straight into trying to find a composition, I find it's often better to take a moment to observe the environment.
I've broken the Process of Observation down into three stages: Discover, Identification, and Translation.
This video is full of practical tips and tricks to help you improve your landscape photography so you can take better landscape photos.
You can jump straight to a stage you want to learn about here:
0:00 Intro
1:28 What is Observation
1:47 Skills when Discovering a location
3:07 What to do when IDENTIFYING Elements to photograph
5:52 How to TRANSLATE a landscape scene
9:42 Summary of Observing and Seeing Compositions
The better you are at Observation, the easier it will be to see better Compositions.

Another great video Andrew. I always enjoy you elaborating on the way you see a composition whilst out in the field. Really good info in this one mate.
Cheers Richard, great to get that feedback mate, I really appreciate your support! 👍

Another excellent, easy to digest tutorial video. Thanks, Andrew. 👍🦘
Happy weekend Andrew!! thanks for sharing☺️
Another great video Andrew. Photography is more than the technical aspects, it is a way of connected the viewer to the feeling of the location via an image. Observation is a must have for the photographer to see the hidden gems. For me, a photograph only works when it creates an emotional reaction within the viewer.
Excellent topic, explanation and video Andrew, thanks for sharing your knowledge and techniques.
I'm learning a lot from this video, fabulously done. Many thanks...
Love your work

Lovely reminder to take your time with composition:))
Thank you dear Andrew for this wonderful video.
Another really useful video Andrew, for both new and experienced photographers. I've found this series both a useful revision and a kick start to thinking instead of running on auto in the familiar locations we have been restricted to recently. Cheers.
hey andrew , wonderful video to understand the composition which is most important part for image and most of beginners making mistake in this , more than that the retouch , if you could make another video later to show how you do processing of images , this is the most wonderful parts , your images is different than other photographers i ever witnessed.
Thank you Andrew, this video was very interesting. It made looking for compositions a little bit easier.
Hi Andrew, great concept in splitting the composition process up into the three stages. I very much struggle with my patience at stage 1, always afraid of missing a detail or angle or losing the light. Basically the dilemma of visiting too many beautiful in too short a time... 🙈
Thanks for those educational episodes in photography, definitely unique in the realms of YT 👍
Good tips Andrew and certainly concur about thinking more what you want to see in the final image, it’s something I have tried to work on more on in the last year. I find it is also a good way of slowing down as well
The relaxing part is probably the hardest part 😂
This is amazing and awesome tips for us like myself as a beginner, even I am in my photography last 4 years too still I need to learn about what your video suggested here, thank you so much for your wonderful suggestions, wishes from india .
