Yes! I bought my first house when I was 19-years-old. Filled it with many things that didn't end up being all that important. Now at 41-years-old, I've been living full time in an RV for the past 6 months. I have a 5 x 10 storage unit that has some things I'd like to keep in the family, but otherwise the rest of it is GONE. I enjoy the smaller space and am looking at an acreage/tiny home situation for the rest of my working life. I feel like my burden has been lifted!
"For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield." Life is about how you live, not what you have. The greatest peace is found in simplicity and living for God. Thank you as always Connie!
I am 65 years old, burnt out nursing manager. Just quit. I'll be fine financially but certainly didn't plan for this so abruptly. Just couldn't do it another day. Looking to simplify, downsize, minimize expenses to be stress-free.
You did the right thing for you. The abruptness of your decision will be probably one of your best life decisions ever. You know when you know that you have to just go !,, I’m happy for you 🤗
The day I quit full time work I felt FREE. The next day I drove to a local zoo with much land. It was wonderful. I now take time to drive the scenic route, read, walk, chat with those I love. I wish I could talk my family member not to use siri to find the "fastest" route.. even when it is (literally) 2 minutes faster and she expects me to drive it. It drives me crazy... but I love her and I know this ride "will soon pass". Your videos are a breath of sun-kissed air. Thank you.
The constant cleaning, organizing & storing becomes overwhelming! Consuming too much is exhausting 😢 letting go of stuff brings peace, time & more energy for family❤️
Thank you for sharing Connie, it is my hope & my dream to simplify my life as much as possible & live with only the things that I truly need/love so I can truly feel free & focus on the important people & things in my life ❤️
As i grow older, i resonate more and more with the idea of minimaalism, and although i still have many possessions, i am more aware of how they harness me and keep me tethered. I'm working now on following your advice about minimaalizing my closet, and also going through drawers, closets, paperwork, and kitchen utensils little by little with the intention of releasing them. That energy will free me up to bring more quiet gentleness into my life. I think some of this is a protest against the excessive need to possess "things" to feel happy. It's a journey.
You look so radiant and happy. I love, love, love your hair, it is so pretty! Thanks for reminding me of what matters, what truly matters. I love your work, thank you!!!
Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad that my content resonates with you. I'm trying to grow my hair out from a pixie cut. Because I cut my own hair, it's a learning curve.😆
Thank you for sharing your wisdom connie the more simple I learn to live the greater the space is in my head to allow peace and contentment minimalism and slow living has changed my whole mindset and my life it’s lifted me out of pretty dark place and given me peace and wholeness I’m still working on it as I’m not as organised as I’d like to be but i have hope in my heart that this year is going to be the final stages of being organised and in a place I can be happy to call myself a minimalist slow living person it’s taken me 3 years to get to where I am and I’m felling so much better and happier I have also started yoga and lost weight as I’m eating more mindful everything is changing and for me it’s for the best thank you Connie you have been a great help in my life I appreciate you 🌻
People have mostly always been what we today call minimalist.. we saved what we could, planned meals and only had what we needed. The modern world is geared up to spend spend and accumulate more. It's a good thing that this way of life is coming back as with less life is so much calmer and less stress just enjoying our life simply.
So needed to hear this. Thank you. On journey 10 years in of trying for extreme minimalist. Love it. BFF who is very materialistic, sent me message she doesn't like how I'm living. Haha. Lost our home. Staying with friend in partially unfinished bungalow on a beautiful pond. Getting off grid training. Accepting n living n loving. Was able to lovingly explain all fine. I don't care what she "see" as not right living. These types will never get it . Oh well.
I was a minimalist before I met my husband four years ago. I am grateful for having my own bedroom so I can, at least, keep that part LESS. He is the opposite of a minimalist and I have solice in my own space.
I'm so glad you have your own space to be mindful of your own needs. It can be a challenge to live with a partner who has a different lifestyle than you.
Connie, thank you for this video. It came at the perfect time, when I am stressing myself out over a renovation we are doing that has gone horribly wrong. Divine Timing! I see now that the trade-off of health for things is just not valuable for me. Bless you for reminding me of my mindfulness training❤
We have downsized and moved into senior apts. over five years ago. Housework is less, less stuff to keep up with. We gave personal items to his side of family incl photos. I also donated books to small libraries and group homes. Kitchen gadgets and cookware was downsized. Dietary changes make meal prep easier.
I am in my upper 40's. I find it much easier to have so much less; it has created much peace, thriving joy, and inward satisfaction. I was never involved in trends and desired to be above and beyond. I have made steps to be more financially secure and have grown spiritually. Freedom is true freedom when, inwardly, you have desires in the right direction.
I am truly inspired by your story I am a almost 37 year old man who’s life goal is to live a slow simple lifestyle once I am able to retire. I started my 401k at 18 years of age and I am still working towards it. If there is more things I can learn to live a slow simple lifestyle I am open to learning more. As always love your videos.😊
Hi Ben! 401k at 18 is so impressive. Living a slow, simple life comes down to small daily actions and mindset. I'm glad you are part of our mindful community
I would like that granola recipe! That looks delicious. I’m trying to have as little processed food as possible. What a lovely video. It gave me some good ideas. Thank you.
I love that you packed all you owned into a suitcase. That's something two people I know were able to do in their teens/early twenties and it was inspiring and got me to live towards minimalism shortly afterwards. I am glad you don't want to fit in like the Joneses but instead want to be like Connie Riet. :) Keep valuing yourself. I don't think I'd ever see an Eddie Vedder lyric/quote used for minimalism, but good job!
Amazing mindful changes are slowly changing physical aspects within my life. Ahhhhh ....nice. Thank you for this ( all of your) video. Enjoy your day 🤗💖
I don't believe in taking things to the extreme. A balanced approach to things is key to living a healthy, stable, fulfilling life. To each their own I guess.
I have been minimalist for the last 2 years. I am happier and feel relief, really .I don't desire things. I am very frugal nel spending money . I love to buy memories like a walk, a coffee ,moments spending with my family. My husband is the opposite and is painful. We can't sleep in the same room.. he has got a lot of stuff a lot. But I think he is learning because he is spending less money now ❤
Thanks for sharing!! I know that many people have the same situation. It's difficult when we are not on the same page as our spouse, no matter what the topic is. Try to find the areas that you both see eye to eye on.
I am 50 years old, burnt out, depressed....unfulfilled in my career but not good at anything else...used to my salary and finding a job that pays me what I make now seems impossible. I need advice ....I am lost.
I'm sorry that you are feeling this way. Life is not always easy or fair. Try to notice the small things that bring a smile to your face and warm your heart. All joy begins with shining a light on the good moments. Sending you thoughts of peace and happiness☺
I can remember when I was 50 now 78 yrs. My goodness you are young. Start thing about what you would like to do when you are at retirement age. Sounds like you need a change of pace and something new even if it is less money. Burn out and depression is doing a number on your health and it won’t change unless you do. No money is worth I’ll health. My 70s were a bigger change than turning 60 was. Don’t be afraid of change. Get ahead financially for a bit so you can retire early, slow down and enjoy life(being with good friends). Feeling burnt out is a sign it’s time for change or take a little sabbatical to regroup. The thing I would have changed earlier than I did was trying to keep everyone happy and help paying kids bills. Having high expectations will not work if you have ill health In your retirement years. Set a goal then plan and stick to it. The years go faster than your think. Good luck.
Wishing you the best in what comes next. Immerse yourself in videos like this one. A simpler life is so much better. I started this journey several years ago. I’m now retired. I have more time to do things I want to do.
Hi Connie! Currently binge watching your videos! I see you have a few on skin and hair care but I haven’t heard you mention what you use as body wash? This is a struggle for me as I want to stay minimal but also want to use products that are nourishing for my skin. Any recommendations? I know minimal folks like Dr. Bronners but I have heard it can really strip your skin of its natural oils so I’m hesitant Thanks for all you share with us! I love watching your journey! ❤️
I'm thrilled that you enjoy my videos! I've used Dr. Bronners and find it to be good option. Currently, I buy any body soap that is 100% natural and fragrance free.
Simplicity is for mind. You can live in palace yet be simple. It means seeing the life the way it is rather than conforming to any idea or pattern because inevitably man is tired of living in pattern.
I am retired and find I need hobbies or I am bored. I like to create junk journals and crochet. I also started a RUclips channel. These keep me enjoying each day. What do you do to keep somewhat busy ? I realize that having a RUclips channel can be busy but I would need more to do. I thrift all my clothes. Household items and most of our furniture. But I also try to keep my home not cluttered. I see you bake and cook, maybe that keeps you busy?
Thank you for sharing your story with us. My website, mindfulness life coaching, posting meditations on Aura, and YT keep me pretty busy. I love hobbies!!! I bake, cook, knit, do yoga, and hike.

I was a stay at Home mom with no money in my IRA or any savings of my own, which was scary at 53 years of age. Three years ago I got a part time job and save everything I make. After 3 years, I am 56 yo and have put $9,000 in an IRA and $40,000 in my portfolio with CFA, Evelyn Infurna. Since the goal of getting a job was to invest for retirement and NOT up my lifestyle, I was able to scale this quickly to $150,000. If I can do this in a year, anyone can.
I know this lady you just mentioned. Evelyn Infurna Services is a portfolio manager and investment advisor. She gained recognition as a former employee at Goldman Sachs; a renowned investor she is. Evelyn Infurna has demonstrated expertise in investment strategies n has been involved in managing portfolios and providing guidance to clients.
I went from no money to lnvest with to busting my A** off on Uber eats for four months to raise about $20k to start trading with Evelyn Infurna. I am at $128k right now and LOVING that you have to bring this up here

I have always been a mentalist, I guess. I hate to spend money or waste things. I learned from my precious mom. She was born in 1934 in a family of 12 kids. My son was taught by myself and his grandma. He is pretty good with his money. But, he says I’m tight.

You are a rockstar for teaching those young minds! It's a tough job and thank you for being an educator. There is no "right" number of things to own. It's perfectly fine to have as many things that are needed for your job. If it's about the organization, try to eliminate all crafts/toys that are broken or unused. Organize into clear containers to help you and the kiddos see what's inside.
I try to keep things to a minimum but every time I turn around, my house partner buys the next new kitchen gadget, or another lamp because the corner is dark, or the shiniest candle holder thing-a-ma-jig. We sold our house last year and got rid of 99% of stuff, and now she's already accumulating more stuff again. It's draining.
I am a Canadian and if Trump takes us over…. I’m moving.😂 Not that I think it will be a cake walk for him. Spain looks gorgeous. I enjoy the message and resonate with minimalism.
I don’t think the Trump wants Canada. We have enough social issues here to handle. You think everything looks greener on the other side, well it doesn’t. I know people who have moved to Europe saying it’s just a little vacation and end up back in the USA. Think twice.
I'm thrilled to announce my Happiness Journal is now available on Amazon! www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHPP8K42
wow, will it MAKE me happy? or just pay your rent??
Life is so funny. The younger me strived for more, more, more. The older me strives for less, less, less! Beautiful video.
Me too. I hate having lots of stuff. Constantly drowning in clutter is a slow death.
I feel the exact same way.

Same here. Exact same career and story. Just stopped at 65. Just. Stopped.

I don’t think the Trump wants Canada. We have enough social issues here to handle. You think everything looks greener on the other side, well it doesn’t. I know people who have moved to Europe saying it’s just a little vacation and end up back in the USA. Think twice.
We have no interest in your political reasons for moving.
