For some reason or another, I've been afraid to do this song. It's always been one of my favorites, but it's so strangely arranged for a Pokémon track. Most tracks are either in a ABC form or even just AB but never AAB like this one. I racked my brain trying to figure why it was arranged like that and why it worked. Plus the phrase structure seems so backwards with almost no pure cadences. I came to the conclusion that I simply can't wrap my head around it and the reason for it all went over my head. So, I changed some parts so that I could and furthermore make sense of it to arrange. You will see that I did keep some of the weird transitions anyway even though I found them jarring. Oh well, the original composition is always fully respected in these covers!
I'm unfortunately rather sick this week. The spring bullshit finally caught up with me. Please excuse the fact that I seldom close my mouth as I cannot breathe through my nose currently and I'm a bit spacey. Don't worry, even if it looks like it in this vid I won't fall over. Still not as sick as when I did that Dr. Mario cover. Holy hell. Anyways, Just a run of the mill cover! I think my mixing got a bit better this week (that or my ears are seriously blocked) but I came to the conclusion that I need to use a different amp model for my tones as this one I'm using (Treadplate) has way too much noise and fizz on top that's muddying up the note quality. Tones are so frustrating.
Haven't decided on next week's cover, but it's leaning towards a title theme that is impossible to listen to without smiling. :)

Teamflare Grunt I have not played the first games, but the internet praised that theme a lot, so I listened to it, and in my opinion Cynthia's theme is better.
The fuck? This song was THE ONE that stuck in my head most of all Pokemon songs from Gen II and I had no idea why (except that maybe I was actually so bored in National Park that the music was the only thing worth concentrating on.) I recently got into listening to it again, orchestral - and you release this awesome ass cover. The beginning would so awesomely smooth. Of course, you had to rock it out - which is fine too. Having two versions - one mellow and one rocking might have been cool. Either way though, it's awesome regardless and thanks much for making it.

Dude the ending to this was just such an amazing subversion of expectations taking this song from an absolutely amazing yet (not that it would have taken away from the value of it) predictable cover to something truly spectacular. Bravo man.

aw~ memories~ i remember playing though silver at night and hearing the 8-bit music. so relaxing~ and then when soul silver came out, they made a great remix and even put in the original in there though the Ipod thing. such great memories trying to catch all the bug pokemon there.

You know, the beginning was so good, it's not often that you do something soothing like that, but when you do it just sends chills down my spine.
I love the beginnings of Lake of Rage, Ecruteak City and the complete version of this one so much that I really wish there would be more Pokémon covers like this. Especially the Gen 2 soundtrack is perfect for this.

I think my favorite thing about Jules is that he can start something off with some crazy smooth jazz and then make a flawless transition into kick-ass metal. It always amazes me.
