I was getting a little overwhelmed with all the info and the other RUclips videos went all the way explaining what EC and PH were, but they didn't do any demonstration like you, so thank you!
Glad to hear it was helpful! Thanks for stopping by the channel.
"What is EC? Who cares?" LOVE IT.
EC is very important can tell you a lot you can fix a lot of problems if you know your EC sometimes your plant will shut down and not take up nutrients because your salt content is too high if you are burning your plant giving it too much nutrients it has a lot to do with growing testing your water testing your runoff testing your nutrient solution learn how to do it it's not that hard they have inexpensive meters that are very inexpensive are pretty much accurate not all but some are pretty accurate something to learn
Electric Conductivity EC. SMH
@@scottyoung7852 spoken like a true better-than-you engineer. Congratulations.
@@bander1023 as it was meant to.
As a medical plant grower I can confirm that EC doesn't matter at all, never. Should be deleted out of everyone's memory.
Straight forward explanation and the cat in the background is cute
Thank you for stopping by my Channel! My cat's name is Ron - I think he enjoys being part of the videos. 😀
Brand new at hydroponics and totally intimidated by pH and EC and FINALLY an explanation I can understand. Thank you so much. 😊
You're welcome! Happy Gardening.
EC Meter. I've been unsuccessfully looking to the experts for reading the EC level The meter does not show decimal points. The answer you gave me explained it in less than 15 minutes! Thank you much.
That's great!
Hey thank you for doing a demonstration even showing us what to do when there’s not enough or too much nutrients. Thank you
You are so welcome!
This was very helpful, lucky me I have The Identical TDS & EC meter. I finally GET IT!
Glad it helped! Thanks for stopping by the channel.
Thank you for sharing finally found a video I can understand
Glad it helped. Thanks for stopping by the channel. 👍
Iv been watching videos confused for 2 days now. Thank you so much. So clear and simple.

Thank you! I hope to add more content on this subject when I get back to my indoor growing in early fall.
@@LittleGardenSK we have super living soil now as well. its out of stock since it flys off the shelf, DM me on our website..
Thanks - Greetings from Ireland - this is the info I need to get ahead and get growing hydroponically.
EC = electrical conductivity (Measured in Siemens !)
Best of luck! Thanks for stopping by the channel.
A Big Thumbs Up! Take care!
Thanks for the visit
Thanks for the excellent vid. Lots of great tips

AWESOME VIDEO , THANK YOU FOR SHARING !
Hello Jose. Thanks for watching!
@@LittleGardenSK YOU'RE WELCOME ,
Very well explained, thank you. 👌🏼
Thanks Danny. Hope you find it helpful.
I’ve watched various other videos to try & understand all about EC readings & have been overwhelmed with too much technical information & as a very dyslexic person I got lost very quickly, as I said your video cut all that out, admittedly I had to watch it twice but the penny dropped so thank you again. Order placed for one last night.
Think u did a great job explaining. Some on UTube are really into the science and technology and while EC & pH r important, I really liked ur relaxed, close enough, style. Eh! Canuck down’Unda
Hello to you down under! Glad it was helpful - keeping it simple!
It work better with lid off for adding the water thanks
I've been unsuccessfully looking to the experts for the answer you gave me in less than 15 minutes! Thank you so much 😊
Haha - I am definitely no expert but like to keep things simple as long as its working! Thanks for stopping by.
Same here!
I have 8 types of lettuces, 3 types of spinach, a red pepper plant (with huge peppers), collard greens all growing & harvesting regularly. However, my strawberries, and 4 types of tomatoes are NOT happy!
Tomatoes are terribly wilted. So I've been searching & searching for the answer. I kinda thought it was something to do with the PPM and/or EC & pH, but i couldn't find the answer!
And BOOM! Every question was answered in a simple & easy way!
Oh yeah, you bet I Subscribed!!
thank you for the information
You're welcome. Thanks for stopping by my channel.

What is EC? Electrical Conductivity
TDS: Total Dissolved Solids
PPM: Parts Per Million
CF/EC Truncheon Meter YM-2005A
You run your hydro a bit stronger and high on PH what is needed. If your happy with the results then carry on and happy gardening to ya.
Heyas, CB. :) I have meters on the way to be here by Tuesday and running TDS is mind-boggling. Where can I get a chart as she had but for way more kinds of plants?
@@generalawareness101 I can not put links on someone else channel. I have them listed on some of my videos but short answer is just google it as there are many charts out there.
@@CBsGreenhouseandGarden Ever find that ironic as I am in the same boat as I can't put links on any but mine YET I see spam bots galore putting links to everything, and everywhere on RUclips. Thank you.
This was such an awesome video, I loved your down to earth style... I'm just getting started and this was very helpful, Thank You. Question do you have link to purchase those planing containers?
I'm glad you found it helpful. The containers I'm using are small 11 litre size Rubbermaid tubs purchased from Walmart. Can get from Amazon here:
amzn.to/3Gjz2vE (CAN)
amzn.to/31vIyNJ (USA) The other containers are Folger's coffee cans. They make the best containers for hydroponic growing! Thanks for stopping by my channel!
@@LittleGardenSK Thank you so much!
Gee thanks for the info

Black 2gal trash liners work for algae control on these containers.
Thanks for the tip!
Hello! Thanks for demonstrating water management. Do you add hydrogen peroxide to your water for anti-bacterial properties, and if so how often?
I occasionally have added peroxide if I think the roots are looking a bit brown. Probable should do it more often! Thanks for stopping by!
Huh?? I've never seen a video showing that.... its a new one on me!
Well, hopefully you've already done one, so I'll check your Playlist. (I just watched this video.)
More informative than other videos. Try some grow lights. I will be trying my onions next week on hydroponics with water from my fish tank. I tried aquaponics and getting the nutrients for the plants was scary because I didn't want to harm the fish. The fish water is rich in nitrates. In two weeks the plants were ready.
That sounds like a cool idea. Would love to get a fish tank going in my house!
ph 7 is neutral (what my well is) that chart is showing most prefer an acidic water?
Well water? OK? Next!
Seedlings do not need nutrients. I typically just pH the water. One the 2nd set of leaves appear ill add nutrients. Thank you for the video.
Thanks Damon. Happy Gardening
ec= (tds x2)/1000. hydroponics with pump fails miserably without glow light..so will be trying out kratky .
Definitely give it a try! It doesn't need to be that complicated.
can I get data from it to arduino
I'm new to hydroponics (raising herbs) and don't have meters yet. The kit that I have told me to add nutrients every two weeks and to use 5 ml of nutrients for every liter of water. If I only add (let's say) a liter of new water (with 4 liters left from the original), do I just add nutrients for that single liter (5 ml), or do I add nutrients for all 5 liters (25 ml)? Thanks for any help.
Thanks for stopping by the channel! I usually mix up a 4 litre jug of nutrients/water and top off my containers as needed. Hope that is helpful.
How often should I check the EC and PH? Thanks!
Hello! I usually do it once or twice a week depending on how much time I have! I hope you keep watching my videos - lots more indoor growing tips coming to the channel.
I want to test my run off and I want to test my nutrient water with the EC meter they have two settings us and Ms what should I use because they do read different
I don't seem to have the 2 options on my meter. A quick google might find your answer!
How often do you need to completely start over with fresh water and nutrients? Thx
I actually never start over - I just mix up a new batch of nutrients in a 4L container using the measurements for the late bloom stage and top up my containers every 3-4 days. I have had a cucumber plant going in my grow tent for almost 4 months and just been topping it up once or twice a week. The plant looks like it's dieing and roots aren't too pretty but It's still giving me cucumbers! 🥒🥒
What's the difference between us and Ms in EC METER ?AND WHAT WE USE HERE IN AMERICA MS OR US
I use the US reading on my meter.
Hi There. Do you happen to know the optimum EC level for solution if one is growing microgreens
I haven't tried microgreens in a hydroponic set up, but a quick google search suggests .5 - 1.0 EC range for microgreens. Thanks for stopping by the channel!
What must be done to increase ec level in the solution???
Adding more nutrient solution to your water should bring up the EC. Add in small amounts and recheck your EC level.
What happens when your cukes get taller…how do you stake them?
Yes, I have some netting set up on the walls of my grow tent and set up the containers so they can climb up the netting. I also have a some strings strung across the tent under the lights that they can grow on. This video I recently posted gives a pretty good visual of how my cukes are trellised. ruclips.net/video/X6E1iEz4Ru0/видео.html
Does the ph down change the EC
It may - I would do an EC check after adjusting to see if had any effect.
I put my ph to 5.5 at 6pm and by 4am its already to 6.8 whyyy im struggling with this hydro stuff
I'm not sure. If its not affecting the growth of your plants - I wouldn't worry too much about it.
how lower the ec level in water
Hello Austin. Adding more water to your mixture should lower your EC level. Hope that answers your question.
Now matter how much water I add it doesn't go down with out me use ph bown and ec bown
Mover water just make the pH and the ec higher than be4
Do you grow enough to feed yourself entirely?
I have been able to grown enough lettuces, herbs and tomatoes to feed my husband and I throughout the winter season. Hoping to expand into more cucumbers and peppers.
@@LittleGardenSK how does it compare with the grocery store?
Ph is ok but the ec is confusing
She says "What is EC? Who cares!" If that is your kind of instruction, this vid is for you!
🌿👍
EC = Electrical Conductivity
Thanks!
11:06 you are better off getting rid of old solution and add a newly mixed batch, your ppm readings is misleading at this stage, firstly ppm is high because the plant has used up enough water to increasing the solute concentration in percentage, secondly as the plant might have used different nutrients at different rates, by adding plain water (solvent) you may not be replacing the nutrients (solutes) that the plant has used in greater percentage...
Thanks - this is why I created a method for dummies! 😂 Too much science makes it complicated.
