Cincinnati is my hometown team. I grew up going to Riverfront Stadium all the time. I really hope De La Cruz keeps on playing the way that he has in his debut. Sometimes, young players make a splash and then once the MLB pitchers get some video on the rookie, the pitchers are then able to exploit the hitter's weaknesses. I'm not being negative, just trying to be realistic about it. I hope that he keeps it up but it's a small sample size. Let's see how he's hitting a little bit later in the season.
Albert is 100% correct. McLain is no joke either and if I were a Red's fan I'd be quite happy with an infield that boasts India, McLain, and De La Cruz with Christian Encanacion-Strand knocking on the MLB door. Also let's not forget about Steer. If their pitching can take the step watch out.
A great start for sure. Let's hope he keeps it up and doesn't burn out or get injuries. It's all about the numbers in the end so it will take time to log a few. Meanwhile it's fun watching him run fast and hit long balls.
I believe they will give him the Acuna type deal & pay him far before that time comes up. Big money to them early but now showing how underpaid Acuna is in comps to other players
@@aaroni.3655 there will never be another contract like Acuna, that’s the most team friendly deal in the league by far. Possibly the most team friendly deal in MLB history
He has insane talent/tools. I’m rooting for him cause if he fully develops he’ll be the most exciting star in the league. Yes, even more exciting than Ohtani. But baseball is unforgiving…he needs to refine his approach to fully express his ability. Otherwise he’ll become a .210 hitter who occasionally does incredible things.
I'm visiting some friends in Cincinnati and we're going to my first Reds game in a couple weeks. I hoping for good weather, and that he's in the lineup that day. Should make for a fun day!
absolutely right, it reminds me of "El Niño Tatis " when he came into the MLB. I just hope that he get somebody that can guide him throughout his career so he doesn't make the same mistakes.
As I write this, he has had 15 at-bats, and 9 of them resulted in a strikeout. Hopefully that's just the result of a small sample size. It could end up being a huge problem.
People hop on hype wagons so quickly. Baseball is an extremely hard game that requires a LONG time of consistency to be considered good. He has way too small of a sample size in the big leagues to make any definitive statements about him being a star or not, and as you said, right off the bat, he shows the tendency to strike out a lot. Let him play and develop and then talk about how good or not he is.
As I write this, he has an average over .300, slgp of .542, obp in the top 10, is the fastest man in baseball according to statcast, can whip a ball across the diamond at 99+mph and smacks dingers over 450 ft....fk everything anyone has to say against this TWENTY ONE yr old kid... he's a star right now, screw "in the making". Feel like they were talking about oneil cruz like this last year. Both really tall powerful and fast , gotta let ‘em play more before talking all this.
Agreed…to be fair Cruz was never rated as the best prospect in the sport. But ultimately you’ve gotta perform consistently. De La Cruz can do things nobody else can…now it’s about doing them often enough to be a superstar. Will he be a fast .210 hitter that occasionally hits a 480 ft bomb ,legs out an unreal triple, or throws a 101 mph strike to first? Or will he become a true superstar who can do those things while hitting .290/.370/.530 while going 40/40 and leading in triples?
Ted Williams said that to hit .400 you have to hit the ball hard enough to get backplayed and have good speed to reach first base... De la Cruz have both...
Because oneil doesn't have the speed and the power of this guy. This guy has literally smoked every ball over 100 mph while turning singles to doubles and doubles to triples
@@donaldwhite369 What he's talking about are all the dumb trades the Reds front office has made across the past 2 years where they give up valuable players and get virtually nothing in return.
Here’s the deal with this guy , now doing what he has done in the MLB & knowing his worth , next year or when his contract is up for renewal he,ll want major bucks & here’s the downfall , instead of giving him what he wants the Cincinnati Reds will either trade him or let him go into free agency when his contract is up . This kind of stuff happens a lot in Cincinnati , I,m from Cincinnati , born & raised & lived here all my life & guess what when it happens which it will , he will come back to haunt the Reds when he has to face us on another team . In the past 33 years since the 1990 World Series when the Reds won against the A,s in the World Series to become Champs that year after Marg Shot was forced out of baseball every owner of the Reds couldn’t get it right & that remains today & the reason why is because every owner since didn’t want to put money into the team like you should . I absolutely love the Reds , win or lose . They have history in MLB being the first paid professional baseball team in 1869 & they have 7 World Series titles under their belt unlike other teams from other professional sports in & around Cincinnati . If you want to win a championship title you have to spend the money to do so & that’s what the Reds owners don’t want to do , it’s that plane & simple .
That's what I'm thinking as well. He was incredible to start his career but faded quickly. I don't think that will end up being the case for De La Cruz, but I can't help but see some similarities.
