    Would you recommend the Atomic bent 90 for groomer and off piste as a intermidiate skier? And does it carve?

      @@HALFLIFEVIDEO so I live in Mississippi now. But when I lived out west I Skied outside of Denver a fair bit. Keystone, Copper, A-Basin, and I guess I can say I skied Vail (only for a day, it was packed but Incredible). Now I only get to go once every year or two, for a week. And man do I miss it, this time of year I get the itch so bad - I watch RUclips reviewe and ski content constantly.
      We are going again in 2025. Either Beaver Creek or Steamboat or we may go Utah for a first time, Alta or Snowbasin.. those are the 4 options right now.
      What are you guys favorite mountains - or what is your home area?

      QST is pretty versatile. I'd say yes - but I do recommend you demo it to be sure it matches your ski style.

    I live in New Zealand and a ski that is 100mm under foot I’d only take out if was a powder day, most of the time we ski had pack so about 90 / 95 percent of the time, so I figure a do it all one ski quiver for NZ conditions would be quite different from the Northern hemisphere seasons. Perhaps 84mm under foot.

      Where do you ski? I mostly ski at Coronet Peak and some times the Remarkables in the Queenstown area. Season snow for Coronet was 258cm and 348cm for the Remarks.

      @@dereknolantan I mostly ski in the Cottonwood Canyons in Utah. Mostly Alta and Snowbird. I meet a handful of people each year from AUS or NZ on the chairlifts. Very nice people. You should visit and check out the terrain and snow. Mostly below treeline which is fun as I love tree skiing.

  • @res_ipsa-REX
    @res_ipsa-REX 2 месяца назад +7

    The ski industry should move away from the term "one ski quiver." It should be replaced with a term like " daily driver" which is a ski that will perform competently about 80-90% of the days someone skis. It is a ski that is competent on and off piste under most conditions but may not be competent during early season hardpack or on deep powder days (14"+). Within the daily driver category, there are some skis that favor on piste performance and vice versa with off piste. That would be a better way to explain skis to potential buyers. That Salomon QST is horrible to try and carve at speed (40+ mph) on groomers as the tails wash out. It is a daily driver that favors off piste terrain and softer snow. In my opinion, the best daily driver (i.e. most versatile ski) I have ever skied is the Nordica Unleashed 98 or 108. It rips the groomers yet can be forced (with minimal effort) to be playful. It is also a competent freesyle ski but can be demanding in the terrain park. Its only downfall is deeper powder (14"+) since that long effective edge creates a very short tip rocker. The flotation just isn't there on a 22" pow day in the Cottonwoods.

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  2 месяца назад +1

      Great feedback - thanks for checking out the video. Daily Driver isn't a bad idea. We'll hop on that Nordica Unleashed. Glad you found the ski that works for you.

      I just don't get the "floatation" gimmick. I can enjoy 88's all day long and getting deep in powder. Why would I want to top ride that stuff?

    • @res_ipsa-REX
      @res_ipsa-REX 2 месяца назад +1

      @@craigmclaughlin3320 To each their own. We all should obviously do what we enjoy the most. But have you ever skied a wide(115mm+) underfoot lightweight ski in deep powder (20"+)? You hardly have to lean back and can cruise at 40 mph with minimal effort. I would argue it is not a gimmick. If it were a gimmick, the pro big mountain skiers would not use the wide skis in deep powder. If you get the chance on a deep powder day, demo the Bent Chetler 120 in the 185 or 192 cm length. Longer the better, in my opinion. Super floaty and playful. It is a blast.

      Good job fellers - once the entire mountain is open I gravitate to my Reckoner 102. Such a fun ski. Size up and mount at -6. Nice to see you included it. Last season I skied Line Blades, Enforcer 88s, Mindbender 90 & 99, Ripstick 96, Bonafides, Serpos, Volkl 90Eights, Patrons, and Kendos. Reckoner 102 my favorite if decent soft snow conditions prevail. Need a replacement for my Progressor 9+ with race plate for firm conditions. Any recommendations?

    My first one ski quiver was a coreupt watchout. I think it was 147-135-142 or something close to that. Once you learnt to carve and hit rails on fatties, you realize everyone else is wrong.
    Now i have 7ish skis, but my bent 120's and qst blanks are my fav "one ski quiver" everyday skis.
    The industry just lied to a bunch of dentist/dad/weekend warriors that were afraid to ditch their 75mm carving skis for anything that actually takes effort.
    Newer sidecuts, rocker, titanal, and rubbers support larger surface area skis. That means more relative width and length. 100mm should be every real skier's minimum width. 110mm is rarely too wide. 115-120mm is the actul current sweetspot. Anyone telling you otherwise should be ignored, or they ignored bootfitting, the actual most impirtant factir to having a good ski on any day.

      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  2 месяца назад +2

      You're absolutely right about having a great boot fitting. You'll see our take on picking boots in this video: ruclips.net/video/-KjNF2bzpUQ/видео.html. 100MM+ is great. I'm glad the wider waist width is working for you. Keep on shredding and have a great ski season.

    Hello quick question what Bindings would you put on the ARV 94? I was recommended the Tyrolia Attack 14 GW - 95 mm but wanted to know more opinions about it. Also would you rather opt for ARV 94 or the atomic bents?

    • @HALFLIFEVIDEO
      @HALFLIFEVIDEO  Месяц назад +1

      The Tyrolia Attack 14 GW with 95 mm brake pairs well with that ski and works well for many skill levels of skiers from Intermediate to expert. Other bindings would be the Armada Strive 14, Marker Griffon, or Look Pivot 14. All are in a similar DIN range and all good choices.
      The Bent Chetlers have a following and are very popular skis, but I like the feel of the ARV 94. It is a lively feeling ski that offers more stability at speed. Plus, if you are looking for that mid 90's waist, the Bent is only offered in 90 or 100.

    Sorry, retired engineer here. I don't care about color or graphics. I am concerned about construction especially core materials. Quit Rossignol after the 4SK as it fell apart and went dead in about 20 days, same with Salomon. Been on Nordica's since the Hot Rod series. With the exception of the Nordica and Atomic in this video, no construction was discussed.

      Thanks for the feedback - we'll take note of it for next year. Sorry you had that experience with Rossignol and Salomon - we have not had that experience with the skis featured.
