The way their venom works with your immune system, your immune system might not overreact to the first dozen times you get stung but if you work with bees long enough and get stung often enough you'll eventually develop an allergy anyways
I just went down a small rabbit hole (figuratively), and it turns out bee keepers are at a higher risk than the normal population of developing an IgE-mediated allergy to bee stings,
@@Stonewren why would the symptoms of a sting get worse? I know the body can do dumb stuff sometimes, but I don’t understand the logic in this instance.
@@barrymanning4861 Bee venom is astonishingly complex stuff, there are three main components to it, two of which produce pain and one of which is principally toxic (specifically cardiotoxic) but all of them work synergistically to increase pain. However there are literally hundreds of other components, some in trace amounts, we still don't know what they all do and how they combine, despite bee venom being one of the most extensively researched of all venoms. Anaphylaxis response however is not actually caused directly by the venom itself (it's not a consequence of serum toxicity), instead it's a reaction by the body to some of those secondary components. Every time the body sees those substances it generates antibody responses to them, just like a vaccine the responses get stronger with repeat exposures. However, if the body begins to over-react then it tends to snowball. Anaphylaxis is caused by that systemic over-reaction, which is why it's not 'normal' it's a malfunction of the bodies attempt to control the toxin. Since the body is a reactive system, the response to the same allergen can grade upward over time with repeat exposures as the immune system becomes progressively more sensitive. Increased sensitivity is a good thing when facing a disease, a bad thing when misfiring due to an allergen.
The most unrealistic part of this is that she’s wearing a suit. Usually it’s just people sticking their raw hands into the pile of bees and grabbing the queen
So, I have a problem with reading where whole words get jumbled into wrong places. The reason why I'm telling this is because I kept reading "raw bees" for way too long and it was way too funny.
She did the “slightly sped up audio to compensate for the short time limit” so well Also “And I knew it was going to be an amazing day” is so real. These vloggers always only have amazing days
Yeah a good portion of beekeepers don't wear suits all the time bees don't sting that much and even if they do unless your allergic theyre not a big deal
We just got a beehouse at my workplace and the beekeeper giving the formation on how to manage it actually said that he doesn't wear the suit cause it actually makes you more clumsy and thus more likely to accidentally kill some bees. And that's when some can get angry and you get attacked. So it's actually kind of safer to not wear the equipment when you're used to being around the bees
my family are beekeepers, we have a hive we check from time to time, we don't wear beesuits either. they're expensive as fuck, my family can't even go to the grocery store till payday, and as long as you're slow and calm, the bees won't do shit.
The biggest beekeeper tiktoker I know of works out of Austin TX where in the summer temperatures are regularly in the triple digits so I don’t blame her for not wearing the suit lol
I worked at a company that sells Bombus Impatiens (a species of bumblebee) for pollinating needs to farmers. I worked there for 8 months, was stung 48 times (most of which happened when I was throwing out sugar batteries to the dumpster, the clouds of wild bees/hornets always went into a frenzy) and I saw 3 people turnover in that time that all quit after finding out they have/developing an allergy. We had one bee-suit for the whole facility, but it was never used because the lights in the hive rooms were supposed to be off anytime we interacted with them, and a headlamp on (because bees can't navigate in the dark) for feeding/QC. Some bees always escaped, and we'd find them crawling up our clothes in the dark if they didn't sting you through your clothes.
I actually like the "obnoxious voice". And the "TikTok voice". Both are great and hilarious and make me laugh. They could be annoying but there's something about it that's just....side splitting to me for some reason. It's just doy funny, lol. Not entirely sure why, but I think people's absolute hatred for it sort of multiplies the general base level of funniness for me personally, if I were to honest tbh.
@@fernbear3950 It might be partially because you hear it so often. It’s funny when somebody recreates it or brings it up because it’s something we all hear and don’t really talk about, but if somebody does an impression of it, you realize that other people notice it too. I think it’s also just like the very positive and friendly tone. It’s funny to hear somebody say something negative so happily. Part of humor comes from recognizing or relating to things, and dissonance in how we expect somebody would normally react in a certain situation.
