- Since the end of colonialism in Africa, many foreigners have visited the continent and made the leap to settle there permanently. They have built new lives and embraced the African spirit. One such individual is the British-born guitarist, John Collins. After briefly visiting Ghana as a child with his father, he moved back years later. He is now a naturalized citizen who contributes to the country’s music scene as a musician, journalist, and researcher.
VOA’s Isaac Kaledzi met him in Accra.

Highlife is so melodious and beautiful. Ghanaians should hold onto it and be proud of it.
Highlife isn't from Ghana
@@fesderi3933yes tf it is Kwasia and we coined our music highlife u ppl stole our music and then claim u started highlife on ur own thieves
@@julianaansah6367Don't entertain this clown. Typical Nigerian mentality of stealing and claiming as your own. High life music is GHANAIAN and Afrobeats is an offshoot of high life. Period!
@@fesderi3933You people and misappropriation of other people's inventions are like 5 and 6.
Thank you for all you have done for my people of africa
Mr. Collins was my chemistry teacher in high school. Ghana International School. My senior year he told the class that all would pass the final exam except me. That challenged me and I bet him money that I would pass. He accepted and I passed. He paid. 😂 I always wondered if he knew I would see his words as a motivation? At any rate, I'm a better person for it. Thanks Mr. Collins.
Highlige is indeed LIFE👑✊🏾
This an incredible story
John is ahead his time, a humble character who introduced himself as simply Collins to the Saints 73 in 1973 and had an awesome jam....a legend Mr Collins
🇬🇭🙏NANA NATURALLY U LOOKED ABSOLUTELY GREATE ❤❤❤🙇♂️✌️☝️🇬🇭🌍)
His African shirt fits him well.
GOD IS FAITHFUL
Such an intelligent man never gets the big media exposure, CNN, African voices will never show this, instead they always show Ashawoo girls and boys in Africa.
Very interesting, didn't know much about him. Well done.
Respect ❤
Awesome 👌
His accent has changed. He sounds hakf between a local and a Brit.
E WONDERFUL
Hi
Hi caro
Hello 👋🏾
Kitalo nnyo!
Keep an eye on him.
He’s truthful. His stay his genuine. If he were to be a spy he probably would’ve been into some kind of NGO.
Probably better that people keep and eye on you instead.
