finally, I'm so tired of people just going on rants about making a weather app, trading bot, or a portfolio website. Actually something useful and unique that will help beginners
really refreshing to see someone express the actual creative process behind a passion project and not just follow this tutorial and use this library. istg 90% of coding youtubers dont actually design software; it feels like they dont even code at all lmao. great vid man thank you
The thing I like about your videos is that you don't have a fancy-schmancy, ultra-tech facecam background. Instead, you're just in your room, and I feel like I'm on a call with my friend who is showing me his project or asking for help to find a bug in his code. Also nice thumbnail :)
ur videos are a lifesaver. after burning out countless times, knowing that other people with more experience have encountered the same problems and that it’s possible to overcome is a relief and huge confidence builder
When I started learning programming, I got better at math in School, because I got used to thinking about math in a different way, and that way made it easier for me to think my way through math problems.
I think you might be literally me. When I was learning Gaussian elimination in a university maths course I wrote a program to implement it, which actually helped me get the concept so much easier.
I wish I could know exactly what I wanted in my projects like you 😂 I always change things up mid-way through or even after I already finished some of the stuffs 😢
oh no don't get me wrong it happens all the time. I mention as much in the iterative design section of the vid. Personal projects always change, there are things you realise that are stupid that you want to go back and change, you come up with new features, etc. it's all about change :)
Another great video and helpful directions to start the things. Thanks Hoff. Do you have any previous experience as a Software Engineer to build it, or you builded and search a lot during the process?
both my friend! once you've done enough software engineering projects all of the stuff I talk about in this video happens automatically, you don't even notice the distinct 4 steps. I've been programming for quite a while and have around 4 yoe in industry (although this is concurrent to while I'm studying at university as well). My projects list both finished and well er... unfinished is quite large :) You always search and build throughout the process. My previous video was all about the techniques I use to filter out information as fast as I can while researching stuff.
@@hoff._world awesome, man! I am following your videos and learning a lot for this side of my career. Your answers are always very informative, too. I am putting my self a proof to become a Jr developer, as a current DevOps Engineer role, being a programmer or software engineer will bring to me a lot of new things and some projects to finish or well… not hahahaha. Thank you for your time and interaction.
funny how it works, hey? for me it was kind of "I've been coding all day at uni so the last thing I wanna do when I come home is code". It is what it is
Hey thanks! I'm in 5th year studying a dual-degree of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science. While studying I also have 4 yoe in industry doing software and embedded systems engineering.
I actually intended to do something special for 500 subs, then 1000, then 2000, etc. but they just didnt stop coming when that daemon vid was blowing up my channel. Will do something cool eventually, will just wait for the right moment :)
The issue with reverse engineering stuff is that in 99 outta 100 cases you cannot/should not publish whatever you did cuz it may lead to grumpy business making ur life a pain.
hoff.industries/files/gojp.tar.gz no comments, no cleanup, glhf :D haven't tested on windows/mac so let me know if ur using that and we'll see how u go

"a software engineer who doesn't code"... I guess you'd call that a product manager

@@hoff._world LOL. I agree with the guy, i love it !
This will be one of the next big software channels. I hope you are considering streaming on twitch, you should.

dont stress and just keep it real. it's a thing you just have to know exists and manage, so chill out and set challenging but realistic goals :)
So glad I found your channel. Your vids are so cool man :)

I've had this mentality since my sophomore year of uni, and I'm so glad you made this video. For sure showing my students this video

personal need -> project
exactly. So much of my inspiration has just been when I come across something I think would be awesome to have, or a problem I'm facing in my life.

thanks for the video, it's been really hard to actually start building shit since becoming a CS major, somehow.
