Ok I'm confused. Someone please help! I started in 2010. I bought stuff as I needed it off eBay. But the currency has probably lost half its value since then. So it will take twice as many paper dollars to buy the same amount of stuff.
Only thing your missing on your thumbnail this time is a big red arrow graphic pointing to the gold bar to catch the eye of people and I think the RUclips algorithm will bless you with those views from non subscribers. But besides that, its looking good brotha!
I was always told to wash my powder in ammonia or to cook off any nitric that may be in that way the gold doesnt go back into solution. I see you dont do that. Does hcl and distilled water do that because i see you do a bit of final wash with it.
Now the confusion has set in. What is the difference between gold plate and gold filled, if gold filled is just plated brass and is the yield percentage different between the two? Gold plated material has very little gold, almost nothing. Gold filled is a thick coating of karat gold over brass and is about 2.5% pure gold by weight. So 100 grams of gold filled material would contain 2.5 grams of pure gold.
Hi Sir my name is Dar, I began watching your channel about a year or so ago. I have this cord or wire that I found in some old stuff I got years back. From there the natural course of action is to contact you and see what your thoughts are on what I have here. Any help would be appreciated, kind regards. Might be gold filled wire. Gold filled is a thick coating of karat gold over base metal, usually brass or copper. Can tell If it’s GF by applying a drop of 14k test acid directly on the wire. If it’s GF then the acid won’t react at all. If it’s gold plated then the acid will eat through, turn green, bubble and stink.
Wouldn't it be better to break the scrap up somehow, so the nitric acid could get at the brass more easily? (I thought a similar thing when you were processing the gold-plated pins).

The GF foils have already had the base metals and presumed alloyed silver dissolved by the nitric acid bath. So the remaining GF is nearly 99% pure gold. Carat scrap needs to be alloyed down to about 25% gold or less. This 14k GF already had only 3% gold.
