As a poor kid I expected the least, so something that seemed small to my friend was like a Christmas miracle to me

Honestly when I was that guy, I would LOOOVVVEEE when they took too long cause then I dont have to do anything cause i cant do nun till they complete the order. For me its like mini break

No, this is so real. My last boyfriend had no job, and was always coming over between MY eight hour fast food shifts to "Netflix and chill." Oftentimes, I was so exhausted I would just fall asleep while we watched his favorite shows in my bedroom. Then, whenever he would actually take me out, he'd complain about gas prices and the best I could get is a drive to his mother's house where he whipped out pizza bagels X-X. I used to buy him lunches just to justify me being able to eat a real meal...and I thought that was okay because I made more money than him, smh...

This is bringing back so so many memories. Secretly looking up the menu in advance to make sure my order was under 15 including tax because I didn't want to be rude. Getting PORK fried rice for the first time. My boyfriend insisting I get the lo mein instead. Then the drink??? A meal, with upgrades, a DRINK, and then he got my cheesecake from a SEPARATE place. He was laughing the entire time and I ACTUALLY burst into tears when he brought the food in like. That feeling is utterly magical. That was a month into our relationship and I didn't tell him till another 2 months that I kept the receipt in case he asked me to pay him back later. The way he looked at me with pity.
I've never dated a broke guy myself but I've watched many of my friends do it and it looked awful. they made fun of me for being into less "swaggy" guys but the kind of sweet white nerd that I attract is perfect for me. He's never made me feel like a financial burden for even a second, he has a lifestyle he likes to maintain, discipline to make that lifestyle happen, and a desire to make sure his partner is living the same way. I couldn't ask for more. I couldn't have even dreamed of getting this much

Damn! This brought back memories of being with my ex. 95% of the time he ordered food for all of us he wanted me to pay half. The times he did pay for everything he ordered two meals that had to be split between two adults and two kids. We were still hungry AF when dinner was over. When I was paying I'd buy all of us our own individual meal. To this day it still feels weird when someone treats me to a free meal.

This struck a chord about generosity and reciprocity with me. I was with someone who had money for 5 years and they were inconsiderate, selfish, and transactional. Lots of shame, weird vibes and "nickel and dime"-ing even though I had my own money and contributed to the household equally. (Technically disproportionately bc of my income being lower at first.) I love being someone with a little money to share with the people I love. If i got it we got it. I will NEVER ever date someone who is like that again.
Technically it sounds like that's not equally, but proportionately. You paid an equal percentage. Which for the record is perfectly fair. If that's what you could afford that's not unreasonable.
Disproportionately would be if you made 1/10th of what they made and they expected you to pay half for everything. Especially when is 60% of your income and like 6% of theirs. Going equally would just be silly unfair.

I certainly have the hardest time being honest in what I actually want because I don't want to be considered bougie or a gold digger. So I am more inclined to buy my own stuff. Just know that the fear of being a burden is a relic of your upbringing. YOU ARE NOT A BURDEN. You are a worthy human being who deserves to have people look out for them, including spending a lil (or a lot of) money. It's something I still struggle with, but you gotta remember it's all in your head. I promise nobody sees you as a burden, and anyone who makes you feel that way is not worth your investment.

I remember when this guy took me out to the movies years ago and I'm the type who is use to going to dollar tree for snacks and popping popcorn at home and bringing everything in the movies in a big purse and soda. 🤣 This guy was was like you want some popcorn? As I look at the price yes. You want some candy? Yes. You want a hot dog or nachos ? I'm looking all shocked at these questions ringing up the prices in my mind tripping. I'm like wow! I can have anything I want? All of that? He spent about $60 $70 and I was in pure shock and it was like he spent $10 to him. I was like dang I've been missing out. Lol. Never had that happened before. 🤣🤣🤣 Was so use to struggle and bargains only. This was a perfect skit. And so true for so many.

Tbf idk what’s goin on with these broke people apparently cause like… I’ve never been rich and I’m certainly not by any means, I’m not even well off. I’m also real broke. But I’d rather treat the person I’m with than buy anything for myself. Done it multiple occasions. Even if it’s only something small, I’d always make sure I’d give whatever I have entirely to the other person. I don’t let them pay either unless they want something more expensive than I can afford and even then I foot what I can. It’s not bc they want me to, the people in question (my friends) absolutely despise it bc they feel guilty. Idk i don’t get why they do, I wanted to do it so I did it
I work two jobs just to pay for my husband's medical expenses and bills and I felt so sad watching this because I will get my husband something out to eat and go home and eat nothing or a sandwich. Respect to all those who are so giving like this.
