Made famous by Ed and Lorraine Warren, who first discovered the possessed doll, the allegedly true story of Annabelle has inspired a book, and two of the films from The Conjuring film franchise. On the silver screen Annabelle is an prized antique doll that plagues the living with death and despair. Yet, the real Annabelle looks far less menacing. She is in fact a Raggedy Ann doll, one of many that has been mass-produced. In this particular doll, however, it has been said, that a dark demon lies - an inhuman demonic entity which possesses the desire to inflict pain. But is the story of Annabelle real? And can the Warrens be trusted?

This account of the origin of Annabelle the doll relies heavily on the work of Gerald Brittle, the author of the 1980 book "The Demonologist", in which the career of the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren was documented using the Warren’s own case files and exclusive interviews with the author. In its aftermath, it appears that the names associated with the Annabelle the doll case were changed or confused. Thus, in the interest of accuracy, we will be using what are claimed to be the real names of those involved, as used by Brittle in the 2013 edition of his book.
For clarification, Deidre Bernard is popularly referred to as “Donna” or “Debbie”, Lara Clifton as “Angie”, and Cal Randell as “Lou”.

I'd love to see a more in depth documentary from you about the Warrens, covering while Ed was alive and Lorraine's career after his death. I have heard some stuff from people who believe they're hoaxes and also from people who believe they're genuine. They're not really a topic I've done research on so what I know is limited to what I have heard when some people mention them. I'd be interested in seeing what you could come up with in a documentary devoted to their full career and not just one of their cases.
I have also never understood why people will believe they're being haunted by a playful, lonely, or innocent child or baby when physical harm or murder attempts are happening. I know kids can be cruel, every child who's ever been bullied will testify to that but if something tries to murder you or someone else that ought to be a really big clue it's not a lonely child.
It's like when someone says they're haunted by their grandpa and still believe it even after they're pushed down a flight of stairs. So your grandpa was a murderous bastard who enjoyed terrorizing people and making them miserable? Well no they say he was the kindest man, never lost his temper. So why do you think he turned into a bastard after death? I don't they insist. Then obviously it's not your grandpa, stupid!

I saw the Warren's at the University I was attending sometime in the early 80's, possibly fall of 1979. They told the story of Annabelle, but it was slightly different. I don't remember them talking about Annabelle kneeling, but I do remember the shiver it sent down my spine when they said that the girls opened the door, and Annabelle was STANDING there. That was what I expected you to say. So somewhere along the line, Annabelle's story has changed or been mixed up, either by others or by the Warren's themselves. Annabelle's story was the scariest part of their presentation. They also had a recording of a demon or something of that nature. They told us that if anyone had any recording devices with them, to NOT record it. They said that it was because someone had recorded it one time, taken it back to their home, and then their home became haunted. The guy next to me said he was glad they had said that, and held up a cassette tape recorder. He did not record it. Was it because they didn't want anyone to scrutinize their recording, or did it actually cause problems for someone? We'll never know for sure. It's cool to see the actual Annabelle that they talked of so long ago. I'm not saying I believe the story, but it sure has stuck with me all these years.

Loraine died this year (2019) on the 18th of April. It’s extremely sad.

From other ghost cases I have viewed, it seems to be a common trick for evil entities to claim they’re just an innocent child when you communicate with them because it’s so disarming and you think they’re harmless presences when they’re not.
I love how this channel is so unbiased. It presents the facts, ALL the facts, in a very well laid out and professional presentation. Too often do other channels present just the scary side for views. I love this channel and I'm glad I subscribed. Keep up the good work :)

I had the same giant Raggedy Ann doll when I was a little girl. This was in early 80's. Maybe late 70's. I would lay her down on my bed with her head on the pillow, cover her, when I would get home from school, she would be sitting up on the bed, leaning on the wall. She moved all the time. My parents were at work all day, nobody else was at the house. I'm from Chicago.

My grandma bought me the Raggedy Ann and Andy when I was a child. They sat in the corner in my rocking chair and idk why they scared me...I had to have a little light on because I’d constantly wake up making sure they were where my grandma left them.

In my grandmothers old house the guest room (which I had to sleep in numerous times) consisted of a single bed in the center of the room, with countless dolls lining the walls on shelves. It was the most unsettling place I've ever been in and I still have dreams of it.

Incredible video, here’s the tricky part. The warrens use to travel with a priest or 2 along with a noted parapsychologist who all not only witnessed these bizarre occurrences but kept actual recordings of it. After Lorraine warrens death, several items were taken from her home which she died in. She planned on releasing everything in her possessions to prove to the public that they weren’t just smoke and mirrors.

When I was little, I had a Holly Hobby doll that was made like a Raggedy Ann. My doll somehow got a red stain on its leg, and I was convinced it was blood. I was terrified of that doll after that and would never play with it.
Of course now, I’m sure the stain was probably just from it laying on a red, uncapped marker or something. But it scared me to death as a kid! Lol

My take is that the Warrens are largely full of it, but they're brilliantly full of it. They created some of the best and most memorable ghost stories of all time. I like to think of them as very involved storytellers.

The parchment was apparently real parchment-nobody uses that today. Maybe calligraphers. It wasn't paper, like we write on today. I read the book a few years ago.

My grandmother had this exact Raggedy Ann doll in her home. She had the Raggedy Andy to go with it, too. I remember how much they frightened me when I was little because they were the same size as me. The wide-eyed expressions on their faces made me feel so uneasy like I was being watched by a predator. I would stay overnight sometimes with my grandmother and I would imagine them lurking around the house as I tossed and turned. It’s freaky how there is such a disturbing story surrounding the same model of doll.
For anyone who says that Annabelle can just teleport outside the glass "she is blessed by a priest twice a month" I did some of my own research last night and that's what I found. weather that's true or not is really up to you. ~Raven
