Some Kind of Wonderful is a 1987 romantic drama film directed by Howard Deutch and written by John Hughes. The movie follows the story of a working-class high school student named Keith (Eric Stoltz), who has a crush on a popular and beautiful girl named Amanda (Lea Thompson).
However, Amanda is already in a relationship with a wealthy, arrogant boy named Hardy (Craig Sheffer). With the help of his best friend Watts (Mary Stuart Masterson), who secretly harbors feelings for him, Keith hatches a plan to win Amanda's heart by asking her out on a date. As Keith and Amanda spend more time together, they develop a strong connection and begin to fall in love. However, their relationship is threatened by Amanda's jealous boyfriend, Hardy, and the class divide between them. In the end, Keith realizes that he is in love with Watts and not Amanda, and the two of them share a romantic kiss. Meanwhile, Amanda breaks up with Hardy and decides to pursue her own dreams. Easily the most underrated teen film. Certainly the most under appreciated Hughes film
John Hughes films. Forever ⭐️🏆⭐️
One of the best ending lines ever for a movie... "You look good wearing my future..." LOVE IT!
This is my favourite 80’s movie and in fact one of my favourite movies of all time ❤
Absolutely! In fact I watched the movie again last night. I can't even count how many times I've watched this movie over the years.
Love Some Kind of Wonderful...got it on DVD...another great John Hughes movie
Fantastic movie! It's been forgotten a bit over time, but it truly belongs in the conversation among the 80s best.
Agree
Agree!
I was so Happy Keith chose Watts❤️
Watts wins! (as it should be)
Amanda should've hooked up with Duncan
Was she in FRIED GREEN TOMATOES. Se looked hot as WATTS
As were we all, Watts was cute
@@leestockton9367 both girls remind me a lot of 2 former girl friends I had. I miss them very much but we all had to go our separate ways to make a living and they had to relocate.
If it was a choice between Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful, SKW wins hands down. Love that movie. It's right up there with The Breakfast Club, the best movies ever came out of the 80's!
Better than Breakfast Club. Watch them both now. One is cringy.
Mary Stuart Masterson is known for Fried Green Tomatoes as well which she was incredible in.
True
Yes how the hell could they NOT mention that? Thank you
Another underrated film
Elias Koteas is a super nice guy...he was a regular at a restaurant I worked at! When I recognized him a told him thanks for all the wonderful work he's done!👍
The majority of all these known actors from the late 70's thru the 80's are my contemporaries, I was born in 64', I'll be 59 in August and I truly lived and loved all those movies of the era and the unforgettable roles portrayed by these wonderful actors!!
There's nothing like the '80's, and there never will be ever again, this is why so many movies of that era, especially those depicting " coming of age " themes are and always will be a treasure both in my mind and in my heart! I love this channel as it brings you these reviews of accomplishments and the way those stars of yesteryear look like in actuality! Every time I see one of these videos it's like traveling back to the best times of my life... thank you so much!!! ♥️🇺🇸
Captain Ed, thank you so much for this comment. First off, I'm glad you are enjoying the channel, that means a lot. Secondly, you are absolutely right. I was born in 68, it's such a joy looking back at all the films and actors I loved watching while growing up. It's great revisiting them again, finding interesting facts, plus watching films I missed along the way. It's so easy to get caught in all the nostalgia while making the videos. Thanks again, Captain Ed. Very much appreciated!!!
Love this movie and is one of my top five all time favorites. It's so well done with a great cast of characters and amazing soundtrack to boot!!!!
My top movie ever
Love the movie...Love the ending.
One of my favorite 80's film!!
Great film, great cast, excellent soundtrack. In my top 20 films of all time. Eric Stolz was nearly Marty McFly you know!
“I Go Crazy” by Flesh For Lulu was such an earworm back in the day.. The March Violets being the film was great to see too..
The March Violets were everything to me!
Great video 😊 Another great John Hughes film ❣️
Fantastic movie and soundtrack.
Craig Sheffer was in Fire With Fire, another awesome 80s flick! One of my faves ❤️
Great flick! Just watched it again
Oh yeah Fire with Fire was awesome, it had Virginia Madsen, she was so beautiful!
Fried Green Tomatoes should be on the top of Mary Stuart Masterson’s work but it’s not listed?
Some Kind of Wonderful......that is exactly how one can describe the 1980's.
There were the very high point of the USA.
Good luck to the future folks of this county....you are going to need it.
One of my favorite movies of all time!!! I had the hugest crush on Eric Stolz and even got a checkered lumberjack shirt to wear like the one he wore in the movie. Sometimes I still have flashes to him giving her the earrings at the end, and his saying, “You knew.” And her saying “I didn’t know-but I hoped.” And his saying back, “You knew.” as they walked down the street together. They just don’t write movies like that anymore. And I still listen to songs on the incomparable soundtrack, my favorite being Brilliant Minds by Furniture. A nice trip back down memory lane!
I love the scene at the club, when she asks Keith do you miss me Keith, powerful scene ❤
And then the best line of the movie, “You look good wearing my future “ ❤️
For me it was the March Violets and their song Turn to the Sky that they were playing in the club when Watts was confronting Keith. I've been listening to that song ever since the movie came out and I still listen to it today!
@@robandkrissy Nah, best line is "You break his heart, I break your face"
John Hughs movies rocked!
One of my all-time favorite movies! Mary Stuart Masterson is just 1 day older than me :)
I’m not a fan of short hair on women, but Mary Stuart Masterson could really rock it in this movie. It was a good look on her.
Hard to believe they left out "Fried Green Tomatoes" on MSM's list of notable credits...
Wow, all the actors from the film had stellar careers.
I had a huge crush on Eric stoltz and watched this movie so many times back in the 80s and mask is another favourite.
Some Kind of Wonderful's finale is perfect, even over its predecessor Pretty in Pink. From the honest & touching conversation between Keith & Amanda concluding their date night, to Amanda's stand against Hardy & that epic double smack, to best friends Watts & Keith sharing their true feelings for each other, all combine to tie up the storylines.
Best John Hughes movie ending ever! When I watched it live in the theater it blew me away, and then, that cover of Can’t Help Falling in Love put me over the edge!
I know the corn ball ending was the whole point of this movie, but we all know in real life he doesn't choose the tomboy best friend over the dream girl. Hell the tomboy wasn't even a NICE girl. What was the appeal 😅
@@mac888spectral7 No, no, you're confusing "we all know in real life he doesn't choose..." with "in my limited, obscured view of real life he doesn't choose...". Don't speak for everyone else, cause you can't. And besides, Keith ending up with Amanda wasn't even an option because Amanda chooses to stand on her own at the end. I suggest you rewatch the the film and thusly reevaluate your interpretation. 🤓😂
@@itf2586 perfectly said 👍👏👍👏👍👏
Could have said it any better.
I absolutely love this movie's ending.
Incredible that all the cast were successful and most all alive. 60 here. Top 7 movie favorites. I own the movie. Mary Stuart Masterson cute haircut really made her stand out. 20 years old.😊😊
Back in 88 when I saw this movie in theaters, Some of the scenes were shot in wilimington and san pedro ca. One scene was shot at amanda jones house in wilimington. 1 block from my grandmas house. One week later I went by that house and it's the same house shot, talked to the owners, yes they said for 3 nights of shooting. Amazing.
I love this movie!!! Mary Stuart Madison was so very pretty!!! I kinda love all the movies she played in especially Green Fried Tomatoes... Great Actress!!! 🌿🌹🌿
Masterson
One of my favorite movies... ❤
It’s my favorite teen movie and Of all John Hughes films.
All I needed to see Mary Stuart Masterson, Tom Boyish, but feminine and hot as far as I'm concerned, and she's still attractive today. All the best to her, this is one my favorite 80's films.
One of my favourite films, so crushed on Eric Stolz❤❤❤❤
I remember watching this film on VHS when it came out in '87, I bought it on RUclips recently, great soundtrack and a great film
I think that the casting of characters turned out perfectly! I loved that movie
The ending is the best part
My favorite Hughes movie! Mary Stuart so cute!
Love this film yet I had no idea Chynna Phillips of Wilson Phillips was in it!
One of my favorites, this movie was made when I was around the same age as most of them I'm a eighties kind of guy
There are so many 80s movies that are so wonderful
Top gun ,pretty in pink, breakfast club so many....wonderful movies back then that I still watch❤
I like that go directly to age and what films they did not like others they gave you to much history
Loved MSM in "Gardens of Stone" with DB Cooper. Very underrated movie, also with James Caan and James Earl Jones. I believe it's free on RUclips, a must watch ! 😊
They just don't make movies like Some Kind of Wonderful anymore.....love the ending💋❤❤
My favorite coming of age movie.. and yes I got the RS references...
I saw ths twice in the movies when i was 16 years old.
So many memories
I love this movie and the ending was perfect. Thx&see ya😁
Your Channel is Awesome 👍
”This is what my girlfriend would look like without skin” Hahahaha , epic line from Elias Koteas.
One of my most beloved movies, thanks a lot!
I liked this movie alot my favs are 3 o'clock high, fast times, breakfast club, can't buy me love, heavenly kid these are the best
Can't buy me love was filmed at my Dad's high school.
Mary stewart is still beautiful
I was surprised upon knowing that Chyna Phillips was also one of the cast.
My favorite John Hughes movie. Mary Stuart Masterson was wonderful in Fried Green Tomatoes. It's another one of my favorites. Eric Stoltz 😍
I’ve watched it dozens of times times. Love it. Love the ending.
I absolutely loved the ending in "some kind of wonderful ' it is still one of my favorite movies and I still watch it a few times a year to this day! Watts is my favorite 😍
i love this movie
Came back to watch it again ❤❤😊
one of my fav of all time! Loved MSM! The role was my hero! ....as the first girl on my high school drum line ....
Perfect ending , just perfect. !!!
Loved the fun facts about the movies in the end!
Of course I have this awesome movie 🥰🥰🥰
One of my favorite movies. ❤
Love that movie. Thanks for the update!
Awsome! Thanks
I would have listed Fried Green Tomatoes as one of Mary Stuart Masterson's best known roles.
Love this movie
Awesome soundtrack too! The Keith and Watts first kiss scene ❤
Please do Drop Dead Fred! My mom took me & my sister to the movies to see it, then I played it for my daughter & now she's played it for her children. It's so hard to find now. I fear many won't see it & miss out on the magic that was Fred.
Fantastic film, so many great actors
Best of the best...❤😊
John Hughes was a genius.
One of my favorites movies ever!
Some Kind of Wonderful wouldn’t have been the phenomenal movie it was without Eric Stoltz and Mary Stuart Masterson! Pretty In Pink was great, but Some Kind of Wonderful was perfection! If true, it’s best that Ringwald and McCarthy weren’t on board. I never thought McCarthy worked in Pretty In Pink, and neither would have worked in Some Kind of Wonderful. So glad Stoltz and Masterson got the roles. They were perfect. And made it the best 80s teen romance of all time!
Ending was FANTASTIC and super dramatic 🎭 Masterson killed it 😏
Loved it
You didn't mention fried green tomatoes as a notable role?
Thanks
probably my fav film ever.
Beautiful ending like the picture of the girl painted on the wall. I only cry when I'm happy, still makes me cry.
The three main stars still look great to this day!
Beautiful movie including the ending.
Sweet & memorable ending
Good friendships is true 💕love
Glad they had to pick different actors in this one than pretty in pink 💝💗
I remember Carmine Caridi from Summer Rental. He was such an important character in that movie. I am surprised that movie wasn't listed under his credits. Classic!
Love it
Very nice video you made!!!! You’re awesome❤❤❤❤❤❤
Can you do Fred: The Movie (2010) cast then and now!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Starring: Lucas Cruikshank, John Cena, Jake Weary, Pixie Lotte, and Jeanette McCurdy.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fact: Speaking of the actor named Ariel Winter, she played Talia (Kevin’s sister and a new friend of Fred) in Fred 2:Night of The Living Fred❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💖💖💖💖💖💖
Never seen the film but glad that the producers of the back to the future movies didn't keep Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly
I can't believe you left out Fire With Fire for Craig Sheffer!
Loved the ending
Watts was my first crush as a 12 year old, as I was learning drums and watched this movie, hormones are a silly kind of wonderful!
I had such a crush on Mary Stuart Masterson ❤️
ahhhhh takes me back to highschool & my grew up in 80s..Eric Stoltz was cute back in 80s, liked him in this flick
Dang, I can't believe they didn't include Leah Thompson's role in "Howard the Duck" as part of her acting credit.
I Love this movie! It's one that I watch alot I think if the ending had been any other way I wouldn't have watched again 😞Sorry, but I think the ending is as important as the whole movie other wise I think of it as not really finished Not sure if that make sense but it does to me Thanks for sharing this
My absolute favorite of all John Hughes films. It just hits and the practice kiss between Keith and Watts is the best on screen kiss imo
My favorite Lea Thompson role is Beverly in Howard the Duck. Some Kind of Wonderful is my second favorite Hughes film, first being “ Planes Trains & Automobiles”. I really love Watts she is a really great character.
exelente filme ja vi varias vezes
One of the best movies ❤
Amazing how successful everyone that was in this movie was including many that had very small roles .
All time favorite movie
Great movie..
