I hadn't seen this cary Grant movie. I am glad i did now. Cary Grant seemed to like doing movies of social commentary and edification. I think he was before his time in his choice of scripts. He was bringing up social issues way before other Hollywood icons. Could it be this is the humanitarian side of Cary Grant eveyone recognized and loved about him?
Thank you for sharing this movie. A wonderful gem which otherwise I would not have known about; 80+ years on, and still as relevant today as it was back then.
A favourite of mine. However, one can only imagine how wonderful if the full version was properly restored. I would gladly pay for a restored version !
Cary Grant made wonderful movies and this is certainly one of them. I never saw him in a fight scene before...LOL. I do hope that he had a stunt double.
I have seen this movie a number of times it’s amazing and Cary Grant always amazIng since I was young I’m a fan of his outstanding even my boyfriend looked like him the dimple in his chin as he got older when I first met him and he told me I always look like Grace Kelly I look forward to seeing more of his movies🎶🎶🙏❤️😇🥰
Mary Brian started life as Louise Byrdie Datzler. She was born in Corsicana, Texas, and went to high school in Dallas. Her widowed mother had big plans for young Louise and took her to California in 1923, with the intention of getting her into the film business. Mary's motion picture career faded after 1937 and she turned towards the stage. In 1940 she went on tour with "Three after Three" , alongside Simone Simon and Mitzi Green and later entertained American troops in the South Pacific as part of the USO. In the 1950's, she enjoyed a brief resurgence on television as the mother of a "Gidget"-type teen in the syndicated sitcom Meet Corliss Archer (1954). After the death of her second husband, the film editor George Tomasini, Mary spent her retirement fulfilling a lifelong passion for portrait painting. Once engaged to Cary Grant and once to Dick Powell. Married twice but no children. Born in 1905. She died in 2002
Very interesting about this actress..! Thank you....she was great in this so was Cary....neat she was fr Cosicana..im fr Ft Worth..! She had nice long life. Great....
......Too much money. That's one thing I don't suffer from! And we both started work on the same day: April 21st. What a tale to tell. If Cary Grant got that close to me, (when he was alive) I wouldn't be thinking of clothes.
Y’all missed a good moment. As Mr Bliss declared his intention to win the bet, walked out and closed the door 🚪, I expected to see Dr. Roberts giving a self satisfied smile. 😊😊😊😊😊
I watched this movie on RUclips a few years ago, and there is some scenes missing. At the end Miss Clayton was angry about not knowing about the bet and thought she had been made to look a fool of. Old Mr Masters was disappointed but let her off about the promise of her engagement. I am sure there was one or two scenes that looked as if they had been shortened. The original version was about 30 minutes longer than this version.
Idlel hands are the work of the devil. For we are meant to use our head, for the more than a hat rack! As it is said. For it is more our over all health grows as we test ourselves as a participant in life over a life of nothing accomplished with our life. This is the story of finding a purpose for living. In making idle dreams a reality for others.
Now it is clear to me why American actors always are so wonderfully slim: they just don't eat anything, but drink here a drop, there another drop and smoke all day.
@@gerica82 the original Uk version is about 80 minutes. For some reason it was cut down for the US market. This is the US version. I’ve never been able to find the original version ☹️
@Cat Magic one hour and two minutes is less than 80 minutes. Im not saying it’s a different movie. I’m saying the Uk version is 80 minutes long and the us release isn’t. So something was cut out for the us release. Don’t know what. A few scenes are obviously chopped. For example his interactions with the mechanic are clearly very poorly edited. Sorry but I’m not aware of a remake starring James Mason. Long shot but I recall he did a film where he faked being shipwrecked and his character was a somewhat bored dilettante. Possibly that’s it?
Cary Grant what an actor. Should have been born in that era to see his movies in theatres.
Cary Grant is my favorite 😂😂❤

See Grant's "Kiss and Make Up", a satirical send up on the cult of beauty. Another movie with a social point. Good catch!

One of my favorites also, big fan of cary grant truely a great actor
Thank you for sharing this movie. It showed a different side of Cary Grant in a much more rounded role and character than most of his later films. ❤
Alice, I'm so happy you said this! It was a completely different role for Cary indeed!
Nice story. Wish I bumped into a guy like Earnest Bliss in real life.
Working my way through the lesser known Cary Grant movies. This had an excellent plot. Thank you for posting.

I think it was a bit more than just a movie kiss. Grant and Brian were lovers at that time.

I wish the quality was better cause its a good movie
The Two Towers of Tower Bridge ❤

The movie is from 1937... Did you expect it to be in colour with surround sound?
Films from the 30's are antiques.
