Matriphagy is a concept album about how an overprotective mother pushes her son to the edge of insanity through psychological & physical abuse. Having spent two decades trapped inside a glorified prison, and after some failed rescue/escape attempts, the son, in a state of heavy delirium does the unforgivable to free himself from his mother's wicked hold.

How many screaming techniques you want to include?
Tallah: "Yes."
Justin is a beast
@MEXS1D3GEE yeah i think he meant "rap techniques" lmao
@MEXS1D3GEE the dude from shadow of intent is probably the best screamer ever
FOR REAL thooo!! LOL
@MEXS1D3GEE this song maybe, but you saying this is a walk in the park tells me you dont have a clue when it comes to this vocalist. look up hungry lights.
The opening “YIKES!” has to be one of my favorite things off the album.
I thought he said nice lol but it is yikes loll
cringe
@Stan OK It’s something that you think it wouldn’t fit but in this case it does XDD
Yikes is the new blegh from now on...
God, I know. I'm glad I'm not the only one to appreciate that.
I see the future of nu in safe hands
This isnt really nu metal bruh.
It’s more death
Nu nu, snu snu, death by snu snu. You're welcome x3
This is like the the new nu metal, it's good, but I prefer the classic nu metal
I’d consider this to be nu deathcore. Kind of like that Suicide Silence self titled album
Justin is an absolute credit to the modern metal scene. What a young genius
@Janesperfectx Justin's thirty? I thought he looked about 24 or 25
MY GOD THAT SNARE. MY GOD THAT VOICE. MY GOD THE CHUGS. THIS IS EVERYTHING.
May Tallah have mercy on our souls
Heavy Joey Jordison vibes on the drum sound overall
Legitimately most pissed off song existence.
OH MY GOD ITS KORN
*OG slipknot wants to know your location*
Please don't change the style of the music. This is like a breath of fresh air, no boring breakdowns, not a generic metalcore that we see everyday, please keep doing your thing!
Any vocalist that does bellows, will eventually change their style… take a look at bmth…
You can’t be every era of metal at once
Tallah: Hold my flux capacitor
Hold my dead mother’s arm*
How refreshing, drums that sound like drums!
It really is. I'm sick of bands that use pro tools and precision editing, to make themselves sound faster and tighter than they really are.
sounds like you listen too much Metal Blade products
@@psychedelicfright85 not only that but its really boring hearing the same massive snare samples that overpower everything else in the song. Much prefer a tight sounding snare where you can hear the tone like this
And not only from the technical standpoint, the snare actually sounds like a damn snare, not an EDM sample. I love many metalcore bands, but I've come to despise the vast majority because of that.
How refreshing, music that sounds like music.
Already listened to this song 100 times on the album, and I don’t really have anything to say, so just commenting to boost the RUclips algorithm. Rock on boys 🤘
FOR THE ALGORITHM!!!
Thanks man. They just gained a new fan.
It totally worked. Here I am and I am beyond happy. New fan!
Based off this song??naw but listen to “Matriphagy”now that SlipKnot/mudvayne is all that song
The vocalist sounds like Shaggy if he was into extreme metal
You are absolutely right lmao
It wasn't me.
*ThiS iS nOt exTREmE*
@@TheJopeToons fuck if anyone says this isn't extreme, then what is. This puts Slipknot's self-titled to shame.
@@ArpeggioPegasusMusic bands like Suffocation, Immolation, Deicide, Disgorge etc. would be what many would like to call brutal and heavy. I would not consider slipknot to be heavy either, but they do make good music! This song bangs hard too
Some one found Joey's old snare and this happened.
no one:
my head when im trying to sleep: NO ONE SHOULD READ THIS BUT IT MUST BE SAID
Yikes!
No one should read this
But it must be said
I’m not a big man-no big thoughts-no reruns
I was kept like a sponge in a box, and a corner was split
That is what it’s like to die
So I choked in a puddle of my pain until I soaked up all the red
Then, I traced the outer line
-Seduced to birth out a divide
So if you need a reason to hate, look up to me
And maybe someday, you’ll find it
And if you need a reason to murder, look up to me
And maybe someday, I’ll help you out, bitch
This elixir ought to be packed under a swamp in Cancun
And locked up-swallowed by a crocodile
Miles from civilization
I make shit [mix it up] up all the time
Like to levitate truth in my mind
Like to make you root against me
You can’t trust the judgment
Of the simple-minded criminal that’s me
Never meant to say it out loud…
Yikes!
But if you need a reason to hate, look up to me
And maybe someday, you’ll find it
And if you need a reason to murder, look up to me
And maybe someday, I’ll help you out
Maybe someday, you’ll find the pitfall
Fell down a concrete staircase until she broke her spine
And some may call me a hero, but I’ve been jaded
‘Cause I know
Ever since then, I had been her pet
She don’t think it be like that
But it do
And that’s a cold fact
-Gelid, like a winter cheek
Well, things ain’t what they used to be
She got gone
And that’s something that I can’t forgive
I can’t forgive that
There is no compromise
No one should ever know just how tight it tugged
We will forever love you lyric man
I never thought hearing every subgenre of modern metal at the same time would sound this brutal
This is the next big band without a doubt. The new wave of Nu Metal. Keep up the good work!
easily one of the heaviest songs off of the whole album! it's so fucking heavy
Too Quick to Grieve is the heaviest song off the album for me
*Red light and cottonmouth chuckle*
@@kubaj8397 those are super good too!!
it's just this one screaming riff that really puts this song up there for me
Jesus Christ.....Justin has the most amazing vocal range of any metal singer I’ve ever heard. He can sing anything
This feels like 2000's metal on cocaine. Luv it.
It's so refreshing to have a heavy but funky groovy metal that isn't just highs and lows..
It really makes a band stand out.
So glad these guys came up in a playlist.
Love the drums that sound so organic -no computer tricks. And oohh that vocalist.. That crazy good vocalist with 10 different throats it seems. 😄 Amazing song guys!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Overproducing can sound really good when done in the right context imo
@@omegazx7236 Sure.. in the right place and time, highlighting small parts. But it should not be a dominant thing. Just my opinion. But again, this is a matter of personal taste, and its impossible to argue about that, bc there is no right or wrong answer really.
@@atlantis4156 The snare in this album is partially sampled tho. He sampled his own snare with an exaggerated amount of pingy frequencies and then put those hits in certain parts of the songs.
Thats Max Portnoy....as in Mike Portnoy's son lol
Already need a new album from these guys asap :)
I need 5 new albums bro 🤣
Give me their entire discography now.
Good news for you, they said the next album is pretty much done already
Fuck Yes! Well done Earache Records for giving Tallah a chance. Thanks for some incredibly fresh new tunes to head bang to Tallah. The new album is a banger, congrats! Cheers
Matriphagy is a masterpiece!
I haven't went a day without listening to this album in full at least two times, at most the entire day.
Love you guys!
Thanks so much broham!!
Low key thought he opened that song with "Zoinks"
thought to my self "Shit man shaggy finally snapped"
Nik Nocturnal brought me here. As a kid that grew up with 90s rock, I’ve waited for something like this for years. Thank you Tallah. This shit smashes.
One of my new favorites period.
The first minute is a perfect answer to "what music do you like?" for me. Heavy af.
This is one of the best examples of genre mixing ive ever seen
Just ordered 4 copies of the No One Should Read This EP. I *HAVE* to support you guys. I'm so in love with the storytelling and creativity here by Justin, Max and the rest of the gang. My new favorite band. 🤘
Title: *No one should read this*
Me: jokes on you, I cant read
@The Fruit I would have a counterargument but I dont know what you said
@FIN voice to text lol
Are we going to ignore the fact that he did a pig snort in the middle of all his vocal techniques? Lol loved the song, sound, and the creativity though!
Never heard that particular type of snort before, I love it
I liked it! Tallah has a weird, disturbing, awesome style that never ceases to surprise.
Layne Staley became a wild and crazy metalboy
Justin is literally singing as a character, I'm assuming as Kungan, according to the concept. And the character is going crazy, therefore, constantly changing identities. Justin sings in different accents and voices to represent this craziness... It's so creative and original!!
@新聞記者 it still fits Kungan as a character perfectly. Besides, if he has all that insane talent why wouldn't he wanna demonstrate it all? His voice is a highlight for me
I really dislike it when people always compare you guys to other bands and genres, to me you've really carved out your own unique sound and vibe, not every band has to conform to a certain sound or genre, and that's where I think you guys really shine.
@Paranoid Drummer I'd argue that it's much more prevalent when it comes to Tallah, sure every band deals with it to some degree, but for Tallah it's like the top 10 comments are "Lol this is lyk Korn and Slipknot combined".
Well well well, the hipster of the group. Would you like an IPA with that opinion? 😂😂😂 jk bro, you’re entitled to it. But they defffffffff sound like a lot of bands mixed into one. And that’s not a bad thing
@@aaronitous i mean this shit is really common though. Cane Hill back in the day only got comments like that too, this just kinda happens and we all gotta deal with it
So they very much so claim a lot of the comparisons being made in their description. Dislike the parallels all you want, they still made the connections themselves.
Yeah I agree. This is some of the most unique, genre bending music of the nu metal/ hardcore scene, so it does bother me to see all the "this is slipknot and korn" comments. Must be annoying as a musician who clearly puts so much effort into being unique and interesting to just constantly see comparisons, even if this comparisons are arguably complimentary
Jesus, that guitar tone! and, fuck, Max Portnoy is not playing drums, he is smiting it down. Absolutely fantastic.
This is just like when Slipknot's Iowa came out...
it is even more close to Mudvayne's DIG
It's got so many influences, i really love it. Some Korn here, some Slipknot there... Fucking awesome.
Those screams reminds me of Mitch Lucker`s screams from No Time to Bleed - Suicide Silence.
Erg this is the defitnetly amazing but not a new iowa at least not yet.
@@bloodyleech these dudes would be the ones to come close to topping Iowa I believe. The potential is fuckin there.
These dudes are so awesome they got some groovy guitar riffs! Its always awesome to hear something new and different. these guys are gonna blow up way bigger than they already are!
I can't express how much I love this song and the album...
Like, as soon as '[redacted]' plays, that's it. I'm not pausing any songs, I'm not rewinding until the whole journey ends.
This is easily already one of my favorite songs off the album. It fucking startled me with that ending breakdown, but the fact that the song along with everything else on the album produces such an unsettling vibe that not only carries along the entire way down but keeps you at the near edge of your seat on your first listen throughout, just anticipating something that you can't put your finger on until it hits you... That's how you make metal disturbing. And Tallah sure as hell did their said deed with Matriphagy
Critical stuff aside, ever since day 1 of hearing this song, all I can hear in my head is "LOOK UP TO ME, LOOK UP TO ME, LOOK UP TO ME", so-
Yes! They're so underrated. This song and the album are genius. How can something so f*cked up can make me so happy? THESE GUYS DESERVE EVERYTHING!
anytime i don’t play this album, all i hear is just “NO ONE SHOULD READ THIS! NO ONE SHOULD READ THIS!” and i’m like, “well fuck, time to begin the ritual.”
This lead singer is fucking fearless in how he uses his instrument
Yes he play some pretty mean windpipes
He actually has videos on stuff like preventing vocal damage. He's not reckless, just more controlled than most others and it allows him to make sounds others can't make without hurting themselves lol
True talent.
@@krombopulosmicheal3845 And that is what makes his abilities and range so impressive, he's not afraid to explore his vocals. Every musical generation has the potential to push the boundaries of "what is music?", I am happy that Tallah push in the direction they did
If you guys could make a music video for every song that'd be swell
I think they actually have videos planned for every song, Justin just needs to edit them I think...
came here to say the same thing
@@ranefilms I do not edit the music videos :P
I mean there’s only two other songs left lol
Edit: three** forgot Kungan didnt have one i think and Cottonmouth will be re-released again Im sure

"We The Sad" was recommended to me a while back and I loved it and have been rocking to Tallah ever since.

3:37 absolute eargasm
3:37 and 4:11 give me Mitch Lucker Suicide Silence vibes

I’ve never been more excited about a band. Been trying to spread the word!
Easily my favorite song from Tallah. What a fantastic way to start the album.
My favorite has to be Too Quick To Grieve, but the entire album is phenomenal
I'm constantly shifting between Overconfidence, Placenta and Red Light.
@Dutch van der Linde LED is my second fav, Kungan is probably 3rd. As far as least favorites go it’s probably Placenta for me, but it’s still an absolute banger. Everything this band makes is
Best album of 2020 by a LANDSLIDE!
I agree
@Morbid Angel is better than Death Back up your statement.
Yes sir
Yus!
First time hearing this band is this. Ok then...
DOWNLOADING ALL OF IT RIGHT F'ING NOW
Two years later and this still hits like a fucking truck.
For those thinking we'll never have another Iowa album, actually we have it! They are just spread all over the world from different bands and we just have to collect it!
I got 4 of 'em:
1. Slaughter To Prevail - Baba Yaga
2. Tetrarch - Negative Noise
3. Tallah - No One Should Read This
4. Nik Nocturnal - Mad
Screwtape by Cane Hill feels appropriate to add as well.
This list is ejaculatory
Watched these cats in Cleveland, amazing show, no backing track just straight hardcore vocals and smashing music! Couldn't ask for better opener for ATR and miss may I!
Great album top to bottom. There are no bad songs. Looking forward to literally anything you guys are doing.
We had some strong albums to start the year and recently, with Orbit Culture and a Slaughter To Prevail album coming out later this year but holy shit. This really blows it out of the park. Amazing job to all members of Tallah
3:26-3:37=Tallah's finest moment. By itself makes this my favorite song of theirs.
Such an unexpected slick transition
As soon as I heard that voice, I knew it was Hungry Lights. This made me so fucking happy, holy shit

156/Silence and Tallah just performed at Knotfest's pulse of the maggots show this past friday!
Matriphagy is one of my favourite albums this year so far. What an excellent record.
I don't know what this is... I don't know where this comes from... but I like it.
Does anybody else listen to this Tallah album while they’re shopping at Costco? I highly recommend it.

I CAN NOT stop listening to this album!
That drum pickup right around 1:53 is the best thing ever
Album is sick!! My favourite this year. I'm glad that I have the opportunity to witness the band's development since the EP. Tallah is the first band that I follow since their early days, it's so cool. I'm curious where you're going to go next!
The snare sound is so natural, feels like music to my ear..
Nice to see Wes Borland hanging out in the woods. Was wondering where her got to.
Let’s go more plays then this!! Let’s go people hype this amazing band up!!! Let’s go
