- How Does Israel’s Iron Dome Missile Defense System Actually work?
During times of high conflict, Israel can experience over 3000 rockets fired at them by militant groups like Hamas in the space of a week. The hyper-advanced Iron Dome missile defense system is responsible for taking out 90% of these. How can it be so effective?
First, a radar system detects incoming rockets, then, a control system uses their speed and trajectory to calculate an impact point. That’s when the Iron Dome batteries spring into action. Each one has three to four launchers capable of firing off 20 guided interceptor missiles in rapid succession, tracking and eliminating the target in mid-air.
It isn’t cheap, with each of the 10 batteries across the country costing an insane fifty million dollars.

On average (when you include the handful of "real" rockets they mix in with the majority of the cheaper "homemade" ones they fire) it's roughly one $40k missile for each ~$1,500 rocket. Not counting the $50M for the initial system in general. That's why they don't fire on rockets heading toward less "important" areas. Too expensive. They could have a ~98% effective system otherwise.

Isreal gets attacked this much?
It does its actually around 300
FYI, some people in Israel live in actual bunkers just because their close to the border
Wait what? Of course.
When we're not at war, it's around 30-100 total a year, depends on which year and so on.
When we're at war, the number is always 4-digits. In March for example there was operation Guardian of the Walls. It was 12 days, and during that time Gaza shot 4,360 rockets and artillery at Israel. 1661 of those were intercepted by the Iron Dome (which only shoots when it calculated that the rockets would fall at a city), 176 were missed by the Iron Dome and hit buildings. And 1843 rockets fell at open lands.
That's (mostly, some are from April but most were during the operation) in 12 days. You also have 30 seconds to 2 minutes to react and find a shelter when the sirens go off, it depends on how close you were to Gaza.
This is the number of rockets and artillery Israel gets in every operation we had.
Guardian of the walls was a very dense one, and an amazing one on behalf of Israel who shot in 2 nights 1500 targets, that took 5+ years to collect by intelligence, with only a few dozens of citizens who unfortunately got killed.
It's a war, unfortunately you can't be 100% clean at it, but you can always try your best at minimizing the amount of death and suffering - and I think that Israel did an amazing job and that, shooting thousands of rockets and destroying enemy buildings with so many few casualties on the others side.
Even the head of UNRWA at Gaza (at the time) said that even though Israel wasn't perfect, they did an amazing job at minimizing the damage....and of course because of speaking the truth he got fired and switched with someone "who fits the mind of the job more properly"... basically with someone who hates Israel, because that's what UNRWAs after, after all.
yeah
We basically get attacked online for existing at any capacity
