Very nice! Back when they were still passenger jets, my dad piloted DC-10s while with Continental, and my grandfather piloted L-1011s while with the original Eastern Airlines.
There is a basketball facility downtown labeled the FedEx forum. The Memphis Grizzlies play there as well as Memphis University. I'm sure there are other shows there as well.
Those are MD-10's. All our DC-10's were converted in Italy about 10-12yrs ago. No, there were others mods done besides instrumentation. Main cabin cargo door, many structural additions to assist in handling increased weight both in the cabin floor, the wings, and the fuselage, flight deck, changes from a 3 person cockpit to a two person, and all wiring harnesses were replaced/upgraded.
One slight detail.....most of Fed Ex 'DC-10' are now MD-10s, with glass cockpit. There aren't any Flight Engineers working at FEDEX anymore, I believe !
Thanks so much for this amazing video!! As a Trijet lover, I was fascinated by it, and enjoyed it thoroughly, even to the last page paying a tribute to the heroes of flight 705. Maybe, you will be able to capture one of these days one shot of the other hero of that flight. MD10-30 N306FE. It's still flying, although going into retirement in 2018. Not too much time left. Thanks!!
Superb video👍🏾👍🏾 I wonder why FedEx still using these older MD-11s while all the airlines have retired them a while ago. However I heard that most of them were not quite reliable. They experienced hard landing and even sometimes bouncing back and flipping over while landing. A few years back I flew with KLM MD-11 twice. I experienced an uncomfortable take off. It wasn't as much smoother and comfortable compared to Boeing 777-200 or 300. I am glad that they retired them MDs. Next inline to be retired is the queen of the sky B747. Sad to see them gone. Hopefully the 747-8 will hang around for a while.
The passenger airlines retired them because the big twinjets made them extinct. For cargo airlines the acquisition cost is cheap and operating them is relatively cheap. They will get replaced eventually of course but their service lives get stretched out a lot longer in cargo service than passenger. Less cycles I guess. A Fedex MD11 crashed at Narita years back when it had a hard landing and bounced and flipped. The investigation basically blamed pilot error : not watching the landing speed and flaring at too low an altitude. Its not an intrinsically unsafe airplane if flown properly.
I am in KY here and using the flightradar app I see FedX MD-11s heading for Memphis all the time and nearly always they are hauling a**. Not sure why that might be but they always seem to be going at a higher rate of speed than the other aircraft I see flying similar distances at least going over this area.
Great video. As an aside Im pretty sure that between MEM and HKG there is a stop in ANC. The 777F doesnt have the range for a nonstop that long at full payload.
Cool vidoe but you wrong on the one side they where DC10 but they had the cockpit upgrade so now the are MD10-10 or MD10-30 how I know this I work for FedEx not in MEM but in South Africa I do the weight and balance. But good vidoe bro keep it up
Seeing all these Trijets makes me wonder why that the manufacturers aren't trying Trijets again instead of the quads we have now. IMO a Trijet looks much more appealing. Take the L-1011 and Boeing 727 as prime examples.
I want to know how y'all didn't get run off by MPD or airport security because last I heard they made it to where you can't watch them land or take off
Hmm, either that's a new development, or that's not the case. I called the airport after arriving to let them know that I would be planespotting from the parking garage, and they were fine with that. I recommend that individuals always look into the policies for planespotting at an airport beforehand and that they contact the airport if necessary.
KBurchfiel well all I know is, is that I used to watch the planes take off from Memphis when I was a little kid with my mom and sister. But great video though
I love seeing those MD-10s sad fedex is retiring them. They'll be gone in 2023. Fun fact 67% of fedex's B727 aircraft belonged to Braniff International. Sad they're gone now
Very nice! Back when they were still passenger jets, my dad piloted DC-10s while with Continental, and my grandfather piloted L-1011s while with the original Eastern Airlines.
Clint Brady! Oh wow! Great story!
Eastern was fantastic!
Beautiful planes, all of them.
thanks for the video I love those DC tens and md-11 my dad worked for United Airlines out of O'Hare got to fly on the DC-10 quite a bit
Very cool! I love the old trijets too. Glad to see they're still flying.
Thank you ❤️.
Classic MD-11 Bouncing.
Memphis International Airport: the home of Fed Express Airlines!!!
the airport should be renamed as fedex field! Great video
Thanks for watching! Fedex definitely runs the show here.

Awesome video! Loved every bit of it. Trijets are certainly getting rarer and rarer these days...
Very cool! I always got a LIKE! for an MD-Lemon
Thanks for watching! I've always admired your channel!
Thank you so much for this nice amazing video.

Nope. Still in service
Great Video!!! I saved it to watch again. Job well done Sir.
Great video!!!! First time I have searched for Memphis International action and FedEx operations in particular. Well done. :-)

They go fast because of that third engine and the md-11 is a very fast airplane thanks to its design
Great Video!!!

WOW what a long fedex commercial
What us the busiest MD11/DC10 day at Memphis? Greets
Great! What camera do you have?
Great Vid! Memphis was a blast when I was there too. Did you film from the parking garage?

Awesome great epic video I live in Memphis
Great video, which location did you spot from?
The MD11 never measured up to its performance expectations so they didn't remain in passenger service all that long.

nice!
Cool
It seems that every time I order something online, no matter from what website, it's always shipped to me by UPS, never FedEx.
Everytime I see a non fedex plane in this video, my OCD kicks in
I want to know how y'all didn't get run off by MPD or airport security because last I heard they made it to where you can't watch them land or take off

Can you hold the camera steady?
Apparently I can't!

Thanks for the info--sad to hear they'll be retiring them. I guess no plane flies forever.
KBurchfiel so true
Its 1990 again
Very nice content! I live near Memphis and plane spot there myself! Maybe you could check out my Memphis videos? Liked!
Shoddy camera work. This could have been an amazing video but the camera shakes and wind noise ruined the video.
Yep, it's pretty amateur isn't it? Thanks for watching!
Fed Ex, the only good thing Memphis has going for it. Other than that, the town is a rat hole.
