That agitation bit was gold! 😂
@@wolfsinclairgaming Thank you. I try to interject some humor occasionally. Have a great day.
A poison but very low toxicity. It was originally isolated from chrysanthemums.
If you use a 10% Permethrin concentrate, you want to dilute it with 19 parts water and 1 part of 10% permethrin concentrate to produce a 0.5% Permethrin solution. For example, if you wanted to make a gallon (128 ounces) of a 0.5% Permethrin solution using water and a 10% Permethrin solution, you’d mix 6.4 ounces of 10% Permethrin solution with 121.6 ounces of water.
I think you are diluting that far too much. All the commercial sprays have .5% permethrin along with a little petroleum distillate to dissolve it so it can form an emulsion in water. This all evaporates off to leave the water insoluble compound on the fabric. They recommend around 3-4 Oz of this .5% spray on an "outfit", or around 1 gram of permethrin per outfit. So if you were to use a 10% permethrin product like the one in the video, you need to mix it 20:1 with water to concentrate. That means for a gallon of spray, you need around 6 OZ of the concentrate. Based on that amount, you would be applying around a half a gram of permethrin to an "outfit" with 3 OZ of the spray. This sounds much more reasonable and is still slightly less than the commercial Sawyer spray. Hope this helps keep folks from getting ate up. I can tell you from experience, here in Missouri where I manage 100+ acres of dense forest, the higher concentration is WAY MORE EFFECTIVE. No more bites, period. And I actually get 4-5 washes of my cloths without losing the effect.
I'm just following the recommendations for a dog. I didn't want to make it too strong. It has been working for me at this dilution. But I appreciate your input. I'll rethink and evaluate it. Thank you.
Martins permethrin is great
Thanks for the suggestion. That's great to know.
Thanks my friend!
I hope it helps. I had a other video in mind but realized this might be better since I needed to spray my clothes anyway.
I know people who's lives have been ruined by tick bites. When comparing the risks, chemicals or ticks, I choose chemicals.
Those are my thoughts my friend.
Thnxs for uploading and sharing
You're welcome. This has saved me a lot of bug bites. I'm happy to share what I know. I appreciate your input.
I'm always on the lookout for tick repellent news. I was using the milsurp spray from Sportsman's Guide til the price went up. Most recently I've been using Sawyer. Spring in Wisconsin is just around the corner and my bottle of Sawyer is almost used up. I'll be giving this a try. Thanks for the heads up.
You're welcome. I've been doing this for years, and still haven't used up the bottle I originally bought. It's a great money saver. I'm happy to learn money saving tips, and share them. Have a great time in the woods.
Outstanding vid brother
Thanks. When we do a lot of stuff in the outdoors. It's important to keep the bugs at bay, and do it on a budget.
Thnxs
Your welcome
Good video Carl
I appreciate that Scott. How are you doing with the social distancing thing? At least I can get out and do some videos on my property.
God saved Daniel from lions .
Thanks Carl
Thank Billy. How are you guys doing?
@@adventuresincampingwithcar8622 We're Blessed and Great. and Y'all?
@@billyisenhour2600 Thats awesome. We're doing well, keeping buisy. Liz has been working from home and I've been going to work the whole time. Like you, I'm essential personell. Gotta keep things running.
Good info Carl. When I lived in LA, I used it for my yard. It does not work as well in the woods of Oregon. Rains too much :(
Well that sucks Joe.
It does indeed! Found a small tick on Baby girl today just walking on her, not biting :) squashed it!
how much did you dilute it for your yard? I read the martin permerthrin 10% but its kinda confusing says 1 and a half per 10 gallons for the lawn but for inside the house its 1.33 oz per gallon. Im not good at math but that doesnt seem right lol.
Thanks for your video of how to make this. Also, it's good you highlight that it is poison, so people should be careful! I used Sawyer on a couple articles of clothing and it seemed to help, but need to look into more as the mosquitoes are really bad this year! I'm going to subscribe and thumbs up to help support your channel!
Thank you. I'm glad this helped. That's what it's all about, sharing knowledge and helping each other out.
I apply it with a windex bottle with the cloth on. Then on the dog, too. It works, but some aggressive ticks still make the journey to the waistline.
You're right. I still use some DEET. Just not as much.
Whatever works for you. This is just how I do it. Your idea sounds good, and cheaper as well. Although I'd be careful applying it to the clothes I'm wearing.
Five minutes in is when he mixes it
To get the mixture to the .5% for clothing treatment you have to use 6.7 ozs per 1gallon of water.
Yes, I was thinking it was too weak for applying to clothing.
Using the instructions recommended formula mixture for a dog has worked well for me. But it's up to the individual. Whatever works for you. I don't want to spray something too strong. It is a chemical after all.
Agree on your measurement. I can usually wash the clothing 2 times and then retreat at this strength...or really until I can't smell it anymore. If I push it one more time after the smell isn't strong I'll usually find a tick.
You can also mix it with lotion to get rid of scabies
I tried this before backing a few days ago and it worked! What I wonder, is when you sweat in 100 degree temperature does that re-wet the dried permethrin and make it absorb into your skin?
Hi Tim, as far as I know, sweat doesn't reactivate the permethrin. If it, did they wouldn't allow Saywer to sell the premix in Wallyworld (Walmart). This is the same stuff, just using some common sence and doing it more econimically.
Also, just for context, permethrin is the active ingredient in head lice cream that they have used in kids for decades at double the concentration %. That goes directly on the skin of children... if you get some on your skin its harmless. I just think you dont want to douse yourself in it...
I agree, children's heads are treated for as king as it takes to get rid of the lice. Then stopped. Dousing ourselves in this stuff everytime we go into the woods doesn't sound like a good idea.
No hun, when the permethrin dries it changes the molecular structure of the permethrin.
Thank you for such a great response. Have a great day.
If you wash your clothes that have been sprayed, should you wash separately from normal clothes?
I wash them all together. It doesn't seem to matter.
Mmkayyy!

Can I put this solutions in my washing machine ??
As far as I know it is supposed to dry completely in the clothes before they're washed.
Just curious about Permethrin being toxic to fish. Do you, or any of your followers, know if it affects fish when you jump into your lake with your treated clothes on?
I have a habit of cooling off in the summertime by jumping into my lake, fully clothed.
I have done this recently and noticed no issues with any of my fish.
The clothes were treated and dried, as you suggested.
But I don't know if there is a leaching affect of Permethrin into the waters of the pond when swimming.
My wife also read an article in a rural magazine saying that Permethrin treated clothes should NOT be washed with other clothing. Any thoughts on that?
I am not aware of any problems. I believe that as long as it has been allowed to dry properly, it stays in the clothes until is has passed its 6 week, or 6 wash load limit. The only danger the package mentions is keeping it away from cats.
Just a side note. This does kill bees so if you have a garden they will avoid it and not pollinate. Why hasn't anybody mentioned this in these videos?
Thanks Bill. I didn't know that. Fortunately, I only spray my clothes and the trails to my campsite and the site itself. I don't like to over spray poisons.
What mix ratio do you use for your camp and trails?
I haven't looked it up on the book. but what I've been doing is 1 oz per gallon. I guess I should probably look and see what it says for around Farm cuz that's what it's for but I've been lazy.
Roughly 6.4oz of 10% concentrate in 1 gallon of water will give you a 0.5% solution, which is what the Sawyers pre-mixed “ready to use” spray is.
South Park?
???
Will kill wood bees also on your decks and wood out buildings
Definitely not spelled right 😅
Oops
Plenty of agitation!
You like that Tom?
@@adventuresincampingwithcar8622 People dont take enough time agitating the tank!
deadly to cats ! so do not use around cats at all !
Yes, I mention that on my video.
What are your thoughts on spraying both inside and outside of clothing and hats?
@djrtime1398 I think as long as it's dry when you put them on, it shouldn't matter. From what I remember from a message that some sent me. The ingredients are pretty safe.
