    Great video!! You explain exactly what a chipbox does and how. Im an owner of the new Gti Clubsport (300ps) and I’m considering to install a box..I wouldn’t wait for the unlock of the ecu and that because the Gti Clubsport is fwd..and the 30-40ps you gain from a box is more than enough so the car doesn’t lose its balance. On the other hand if i had the Golf R i would probably have waited for a ecu tuning, more gains and 4wd to support them..I can’t wait to see the review on the road. Cheers!!

      So these are piggy back tunes. It takes data from the measurement instruments on the car, and changes the values. The stock ECU adjusts and ends up making more power. It will say i'm not making enough boost and not running enough fuel, stock ecu demands more boost and fuel.
      The issue with tricking the ECU is that you are removing safety limits that are designed into the car. If it was my car i would wait for a proper tune. APR for example adds a ton of additional measurement points on their test cars to tune the car like how the factory would. When manufacurers tune they take way more data points than what will be on the road car, and use formulas to estimate these values on the road cars. This works great as the formulas are based on actual measured values under fixed conditions. When you piggyback these formulas don't change, but you are changing the conditions.
      And as for their "warranty" , I just read the exclusions. Lets just say they have tons of outs to void it and it only covers up to $7500.

      Thanks for watching and the comment! Road test is coming up soon.
      There are always risks with changing a car from stock, and before tuning you should be accepting of that increased risk. With the GTS Black, we didn’t mention it in the video but it comes with a warranty on the engine.
      As far as we are aware there is no JB4 for this ECU
      No timeframe yet, when it comes it’ll come. Usually what happens is all the tool makers that everyone within the industry uses will have an update, this will allow people to read and write to the ECU. At that point you’ll see lots of brands coming out with various tunes.

    The MK8’s engine is very similar to the MK7/7.5’s. I mean VERY similar. Minor changes to the turbo and internals, but overall, it’s practically the same.
    That being said, a Stage 2 tune on a MK7/7.5 R takes it from 290hp crank to ~430hp crank. That’s a 140hp jump in just a software tune and downpipe. The MK8 R I would suspect to be in this same range of power (or even more like a 150-170hp crank jump) with a Stage 2 software tune and downpipe, BUT it needs to be a legitimate software tune, not the “tune box” junk.

    • @RegalAutosport
      @RegalAutosport 2 года назад

      On our dyno ECU, DSG software (or clutch if manual), good quality full intake, good quality exhaust and good quality intercooler will see around 410hp, bit shy of the hybrid turbo 430hp+ numbers you are talking about.

    • @JacesOwnWorld
      @JacesOwnWorld 2 года назад

      @@RegalAutosport I think you misunderstood. I’m talking crank up numbers, not whp. A hybrid IS38 turbo on a MK7/7.5 GTI/R will make 430+whp worth the same mods you mention above. That’s about 490hp at the crank. I made 358whp on my IS38 turbo taken from the Golf R on my MK7 GTI, which is about 410hp to the crank with my 6spd manual, and around 420hp crank for the DSG.
      I would expect the crank hp to be more on the MK8 considering there are some engine upgrades, a larger stock turbo on it, and it starting off with more factory hp.
      A hybrid turbo should be making well over 500hp to the crank on the MK8 because it already does on the MK7/7.5. We’re you referring to crank or whp numbers?
