Shawn is great. If you’ve been in the hobby/industry for a significant amount of time, you see how challenging it is to do what he does and speak about the realities of collectibles in the face of naysayers.

Glad it was helpful! I have a college degree in Plastic Dolls, and I am not sure it was a great choice looking back on my life up until today.

Fantastic video John thanks- I’m almost 53 in the target age group and I know once our generation dies off so will the propensity for buyers to pay big but I only buy what I want because I want it - not for resale value - I just wish I had a display setup that enabled me to enjoy some of my stuff more, and when I retire I will take some time to trim down the whole collection - but for now I am loving the hobby and that in itself is some value realised - stay safe my friend and keep up the great work !

I've seen Shawn's videos 👍I always just say buy what you love and enjoy it. If it makes you happy, don't worry so much about paying a little over value for something. Thanks for the interview video 👌

Absolutely love this discussion John! As a micro economist myself and long term collector I get it. What I would say though is we need to do some more market definition/segmentation sometime. 😉 if you think clone wars stuff is going to fall off a cliff in 20 years I don’t know what to tell you 😂 those dudes are pretty inelastic!!!!

Great episode! Please have Shawn on again and dive into more details of collecting. Like grading vs not grading, when to grade when not to, flipping items and best places to sell for returns.

Great video John. I found Sean 6 months ago and he is very wise. Buy what you can afford to do so after you feed your family and pay your bills. My Dad always said an item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it bottom line. I do see the Star Wars market being flooded and there will be a time where there are my auctions than buyers especially with this new generation

Another awesome video John! I agree with both you and Shawn on most of these points. But one thing that I think Shawn needs to realize is that with graded playsets/ships is that they can be graded opened but unused. So if the tape does dry its not the kiss of death on their value. Atleast compared to a bubble popping off a MOC.

Macro investors consider bitcoin like a digital commodity not money but a good hedge
Other investors consider ethereum to be like an early Microsoft as it’s a smart application smart contract and open source network technology like facebook. But a holder owns their keys and their property
Countries are adopting btc. But USA It’s still early.

Great interview AFG! Personally, I never buy Star Wars toys thinking of them as an investment or opportunity to make money. I simply try to put a value on how much enjoyment I will get out of having that item in my collection. That being said, for the more expensive vintage Kenner items, I do tend to ask myself whether or not I will be able to get my money back or take a minimal loss if my feelings on the item changes or if I am in a financial pickle that requires me to sell it.

Great video, very informative. Everything makes sense keep your investments diversified. My collection was always meant to be for fun, and it makes me happy! I will probably never sell anything. All the power of the force 2 figures I bought are not worth anything, that's fine with me. I had alot of fun in the later 90s hunting all the figures down and collecting them. My plan for a 401K is........ wait for it ....... a 401K 😆 Thanks for the great videos, and happy 22nd anniversary! Its a big deal! 😊

I remember growing up and Matchbox Models of Yesteryear were always expensive / selling at a premium. Then something happened late 80s/ early 90s when the prices plummeted and I realized it was because all the collectors ‘were dying off’. This meant their stuff hitting the market, but no one in the generation following on that interested in collecting it. Same thing will happen with SW from the 80s

      Hey Dan 👋 again
A lot out there. But the other side to whether it’s a good investment is the DEMAND side. So it really depends on that buy side of liquidity
