      So I can rent a scooter in my 14 days vacation for 980?
      I don't need to bring my scooter on flight to japan? Am I allow to?
      Are the scooters available everywhere when needed?

    As I'm going to Tokyo in a few day, this is super useful. Thank you. The price though.. not sure this is a great idea to jack it up like that

    • @JapanReality
      @JapanReality  15 дней назад

      Yeah I was a big proponent for these things and I used them a lot, but as soon as they jacked up the price, I’ve only used it for very specific occasions like when the trains stopped due to an accident a couple stations from my house. If you’re here for a visit though, it’s a fun way to get around and see the city. Be careful though! As in any country there’s inattentive drivers and pedestrians

    5:10 Actually, if the speed limit of the road is up to 40km/h, you can ride on the road up to 20km/h. But if the speed limit is higher than 40km/h, you cannot ride on the road. In this case, you should ride on the sidewalk, at the speed limit of 6km/h.

    Very much informative!..How to buy these kind of vehicle in japan ?

    • @JapanReality
      @JapanReality  11 месяцев назад

      I can’t speak too much on purchasing one but if you look up 電動キックボード購入 (Dendou Kikkubo-do Kounyuu) or electric scooter purchase in English on google, a couple stores immediately popped up.
      One thing to note is that if the scooter’s max speed is 15 km/h, you do not need any certification. If it’s over 15 km/h, you need a license plate and other certifications, but the store should help you out. Good luck!

    Great video! My friend is a complete beginner at riding these and does not have a license in their country of residence either. Do you need a license/international permit to ride these around ? We are visiting Tokyo for a trip and want to explore Shinjuku area for a day, is there no one day pass ?

    • @JapanReality
      @JapanReality  11 месяцев назад

      You just need some valid ID, most likely your passport!
      The rate is based on how long you use it. The rate is changing based on my pinned comment, so no day passes unfortunately.

    last time i was in town i wasn't allowed to ride one without a japanese driver's license, looks like they changed the rules. so i can bring it anywhere a bike can go as long as i go slow?

    • @JapanReality
      @JapanReality  Год назад

      Yes! Up until recently you did need a Japanese driver’s license but this time, as long as you have a valid passport or residence card, you can ride!
      However, scooter rules are separate from a bicycle such as not being allowed to ride on the sidewalk.

  • @mikeymofonz
    @mikeymofonz 3 месяца назад

    Thanks for the video. I’ve signed up from New Zealand and will be coming to Japan soon. I’m used to high power scooters so these will be a breeze to ride. Are you allowed to ride on the sidewalk at a slow pace and respectful manner?

    • @JapanReality
      @JapanReality  3 месяца назад +1

      Although there is a 7km/h mode on the newer models, I’d recommend not riding on the sidewalk. A scooter is perceived as a vehicle somewhere between a bicycle (which are socially accepted to ride on sidewalks) and cars (which are not).
      I don’t like riding on fast multi lane roads but the good thing about Japan is that there are so many tiny streets with no sidewalks that you can take that are 30 km/h for cars which makes it pretty safe to ride!

    so how fast do they go ? can I always choose to ride on the sidewalk ? as I understand one must park the ONLY in those marked zones ?

    • @JapanReality
      @JapanReality  3 месяца назад +1

      Currently they’re speed limited to 20 km/h and you must ride on the road. If you ride on the sidewalk, you’re limited to 6 km/h. Some of the newer scooters offer a 6 km/h limiter.
      And lastly, you can only pick up and drop off from the marked zones.
      Hope that helps!
