If you're like me and you're jumping through multiple pages and videos for news on this - here's what you need to know (all of this is sarcasm because everyone's saying something different): -This will not be a hurricane, so prepare for a category 4 hurricane, because that's what it will probably be -It's going to directly jump over Galveston to hit Houston, so prepare yourselves in South Padre because that's where it's going -It's going to produce a bunch of tornadoes, so relax, it'll just be some rain -It's intensifying, but weakening also at the same time. MSM in Houston/ Galveston is definitely downplaying this storm and not telling people this could strengthen and turn north towards us. Most people think it will be a pretty harmless cat 1 and hit way south of us. I feel like if it does get stronger and head this way a lot of people are going to be caught off guard.

Though, as of late, Beryl isn't looking very impressive on satellite. It's lost a ton of convection. But the LLC is still intact, meaning that there is still a close window for rapid intensification. And the models are STILL being inconsistent with the exact landfall location, it's absurd.

At least it wont be too bad if it's just a one or two, the only danger becomes surge and or amount of rainfall and possible tornadoes. We ride out this size storm all the time, we are pretty good at it. At least most of us know how to prepare. This Hurricane Beryl reminds me eerily of hurricane Celia which hit Corpus Christi Aug 3, 1970. Born and raised in Corpus, I was there. The day before I was at Port Aransas. Beautiful, hot summer day. Blue sky, puffy clouds, no obvious storm waves or storm tide...no one was worried. Yes, there was this dinky little storm out in the Gulf headed our way with winds barely 100mph...no big deal. Corpus had weathered near misses from much bigger storms like Carla and Beaulah. 24 hrs later Celia hit as a Cat 3 (Rated a Cat 4 at the time if I remember right). Sustained winds of 150mph. Gusts near or above 200mph. Something like 80-90 % of homes damaged or destroyed. Major buildings completely flattened. The similarity to Beryl is that Celia was a small weak storm that in the last 24hrs before landfall was supercharged by very warm water near shore (85-87 deg). Hurricane prediction was much more primitive back then. Ken Cessna couldn't save us (long time local weather man). So much for a dinky little storm.

It is a tough way to get rainfall, but it is the history of Texas that by July and August about the only hope of water is by hurricane. We don't have to like it...just have to deal. Thank you for your work tracking these things. So very helpful.
Living in Texas all my life, have been thru numerous hurricanes. Don’t remember ever seeing movement like Beryl…and I lived in Corpus, been stranded in Cancun/Tulum. My concern has been Beryl would turn, strengthen and gain momentum. I live in path now but as moves east, gets further from me. I’m prepared or as prepared as can be. God is in control of everything!
@@GailJames-q5k wasn’t Harvey similar path? Storms turning north in GoM is fairly common. The ridge strength and location determines the path we will see.

If this hits just west of Houston, that is the worst for flooding. Lake livingston dam is damaged and getting repaired, it's possible it could fail under stress of a big rain event.

This Hurricane Beryl reminds me eerily of hurricane Celia which hit Corpus Christi Aug 3, 1970. Born and raised in Corpus, I was there. The day before I was at Port Aransas. Beautiful, hot summer day. Blue sky, puffy clouds, no obvious storm waves or storm tide...no one was worried. Yes, there was this dinky little storm out in the Gulf headed our way with winds barely 100mph...no big deal. Corpus had weathered near misses from much bigger storms like Carla and Beaulah. 24 hrs later Celia hit as a Cat 3 (Rated a Cat 4 at the time if I remember right). Sustained winds of 150mph. Gusts near or above 200mph. Something like 80-90 % of homes damaged or destroyed. Major buildings completely flattened.
The similarity to Beryl is that Celia was a small weak storm that in the last 24hrs before landfall was supercharged by very warm water near shore (85-87 deg). Hurricane prediction was much more primitive back then. Ken Cessna couldn't save us (long time local weather man).
So much for a dinky little storm.
@jamescreighton7589 all my family, on both sides, are in Corpus. I'm a little upset my parents are thinking it's "a little dinky storm" going to the east (they're told). I told them to get boarded up just in case. They're just watching. 😳

It was scary, but I was too nieve to acknowledge the gravity of that storm. I remember the 'now showing' sign at the drive-in movie said .... ...'Gone With the Wind'! 🌀

It is a tough way to get rainfall, but it is the history of Texas that by July and August about the only hope of water is by hurricane. We don't have to like it...just have to deal. Thank you for your work tracking these things. So very helpful.

Living in Texas all my life, have been thru numerous hurricanes. Don’t remember ever seeing movement like Beryl…and I lived in Corpus, been stranded in Cancun/Tulum. My concern has been Beryl would turn, strengthen and gain momentum. I live in path now but as moves east, gets further from me. I’m prepared or as prepared as can be. God is in control of everything!

If this hits just west of Houston, that is the worst for flooding. Lake livingston dam is damaged and getting repaired, it's possible it could fail under stress of a big rain event.
