Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia concludes his two-day Official Visit to the Philippines that elevated diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister pays tribute to the Philippines’ national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument in Rizal Park, City of Manila on the morning of March 2, 2023.
By late afternoon, Philippine and Malaysian representatives bid farewell to the visiting Head of Government and his spouse before boarding their aircraft bound for Kuala Lumpur.
During his two-day Official Visit, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim received a welcoming ceremony from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and engaged in a series of meetings that aimed to strengthen the longstanding ties between Malaysia and the Philippines.
Discussions focused on enhancing economic, security and political cooperation between the two nations. Both leaders also explored ways to promote cultural exchange and tourism to further rejuvenate relations. At the official dinner hosted by President Marcos Jr., the two leaders expressed a shared commitment to forge a partnership focused on promoting progress.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is the first Head of Government to visit the Philippines since President Marcos Jr. took office. This is the Malaysian leader’s inaugural visit to the country since becoming the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia in November 2022.
