Ridiculous LEGO donuts (and LEGO donut fails)

  • These builds are an escalation and 'improvement' of the original LEGO donut: • The Original LEGO Donu...
    In some ways, the replacement of the 1x4 plate with two 1x1 round plates makes for a more aesthetically pleasing build that has less problems with the incomplete connections. But ultimately this design is much more fragile--which does make for some really fun filming moments. : ) And I'm just scratching the surface of what I could do with a LOT of these round plates.

    Fun fact: The shape’s official name was technically “Torus” but we call it as “donut” due to its popularity and it’s one of the most iconic food with that shape (alongside with Bagels)

      I believe "torus" is the _real_ name of the shape, not its _official_ name, seeing as there's no legal document that regulates shape names. It's just common knowledge.

    The two interlocking rings made me think of a snake. I know you used all the same shade of green. However, with the dots being recessed into the build the shadows made it look like multiple shades of green.

    This reminds me of a time someone built a car out of LEGO for the first time (don't know how many cars like these was made). And now I wonder how you can implement brickbending in these scenarios

    This is something I’ve wanted to point out for a long time. I have noticed that when you put groups of assembled legos together, you do not attatch them fully and in this video you can see this on more obvious scale

      Yes, I'm not showing that final bit of careful tightening in favor of a more streamlined video. This one was definitely harder to hide because the connections themselves are so precarious.

    that multilevel donut open a lot of possibilities with changing the second level type of parts. For exemple, a 2*2 round plate for a little ring, or wings triangle plates to make a sort of UFO ^^

    Great and cool as usual 👍. The fails are very important, as much as the successes. Are there curved LEGO pieces? Those 1×1 with variable angles of in to out surface would permit more stable geometric structures.

      There are curved LEGO pieces but none like I think you're describing (that I know of). They would definitely help with stability.

    I found myself laughing at the same time he was when all the piece’s broke apart. Those bigger donuts look awesome. Just a shame they’re so unstable. But still fun to spin and watch fall apart.

      Bricklink or Lego Store ask for a K Box of a common piece you want. For example you can get a box of 650-700 2x4s for $70.

    Have you tried making a torus with only two pieces in each disk? I think you can put a stud in the middle of 4 studs on the disc and then stack them normally.

      I've tried, but at least with the plates that I had they would not stay together. That's a pretty big gap for an incomplete connection.

    Okay, I am a noob.
    But, on the off chance I will make an observation. On the 2nd form, would it be possible to stabilize the doughnut by adding the stubs to the outter connection of the doughnut? Or is that space not the same distance?

      That would definitely help, but I decided to embrace the fragility of these builds for this video. They will always be somewhat unstable because of the incomplete connections, but it was pretty amazing to watch them just collapse over and over again.

    Quality content. I'm always baffled by how many pieces you use. I'm guessing you buy a bulk load of the same piece for each project. Either that or you work in a Lego factory.

      Also how do you manage to get this shades? I've seen ones like this only in very few thematic sets.
