Today, I react to the news that Michael Burry sold his entire portfolio in Q2 of 2022, after releasing his 13F filing. As well as selling all the holdings in his portfolio, he also bought one new stock - a private prison company called GEO Group. In this video, I try to figure out Burry might have sold his holdings, by reading some of his recent tweets, and revisiting parts of his investing strategy from my first Michael Burry video. If you have any thoughts on why Burry sold, let me know in the comments below! I hope you enjoy the video :)

I think the one thing worth mentioning between retail investors (such as myself) and Bury is that Bury is managing 10's/100's of millions of dollars of other peoples money. If he has conviction to go to cash to try to time the market, good on him for doing so. The reality is though, most retail investors only have a small percentage of their annual income in the market, so instead of taking the risk of going to cash and it backfiring on you, hold your positions incase we go up but maybe just start crimping down on your luxury spending to build up your cash stockpile in case of the dip.
Obviously Burry's income is by far dwarfed by his fund but for more retail investors, its the opposite. So why take the risk timing the market, just hold for the long term and try to increase your cash pile on the chance there is a crash by attacking some of that luxury spending instead. The % that you save is going to be far greater compared to your stock portfolio which Bury cannot mimic (except for buying bonds which if he believes the crash is that bad, may not come through).

Great points Chris! I agree its safer to build a new cash pile instead of risking it by going to cash. Yeah it's crazy, Burrys always had nerves of steel with other peoples money haha

Burry has a very flashy investing style, he makes big moves and predictions that makes him either the biggest genius in the world or the dumbbest kid on the block.
