I had a similar experience in one of the games I used to play competitively. The player who inspired me the most came back and wanted to connect to the rest of our community, as we all had a niche play style in common. For what ever reason, he asked me to help clarify certain things in English since his first language was Japanese and he didn't know too much English. I treasure that moment very deeply now
