Their songs were teaching songs (Rock 'n' Roll Kenchōshozaichi or Kazoe no uta) or goofy (Jankenpyon or Telephone Ring Ring Ring) and they drew kids and younger parents. They were one of the most popular sub groups formed. And happy to chat.

Actually men in their 30's and 40's also go as well, and have their own cheering sections, color coded by girl. Morning Musume was considered taboo by many parents because of this. These two were different though because they performed as part of MiniMoni, a group for children. I think they performed for 3 years before breaking up and No-No and Aibon left Morning Musume and formed W. Your very right about the culture of support. You buy everything and go to every concert.
