After an unfortunate encounter in the garden, Simon’s Cat goes to great lengths to avoid an imminent visit to the vet. As always, the question remains - will his long-suffering owner Simon step up to the challenge?
After a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2014 to make a longer film, ‘Simon’s Cat: Off to the Vet' became the first 12 minute Simon's Cat film to be produced in full colour.

Q. What's the background of 'Off to the Vet'?
A. ‘Off to the Vet’ film production and crowdfunding campaign was a huge undertaking for the Simon’s Cat Team. Our hope is to produce more long form, full colour content for our fans but without having to turn to them through crowdfunding again. The film was completed in 2015 and submitted it to a selection of international film festivals over the following months. During this time, it was exclusively available to all funders that contributed via our private production blog. The feedback we have received from our funders has been overwhelming positive and we hope they are extremely proud of making the film a possibility. Q. What software do you use?
A. Simon's Cat is made using Adobe Flash / TV Paint / CelAction animation software.
Q. Why does it take so long to make each Simon's Cat film?
A. Even though the films are made on computer software, they are still hand-animated in a traditional manner, frame to frame. It usually takes between 12 and 25 drawings to create 1 second of a Simon's Cat film.

Absolutely. I adore this cartoon. For too long we have needed someone who actually knows the comedy of living with cats to do a cartoon. Garfield was good, but Simon's Cat is better. More realistic.

This guy is really a cat person. The mannerisms, the guy trying to get the cat in the crate, the way the cat refuses to come out of the crate at the vets, the howling in the crate to the vets and then his abject exhaustion once he gets home. This is my life with cats.

I think anyone who's ever owned a cat knows the frustration and embarrassment of having to make a trip to the vet. Preplanning is always necessary for the trip to the vet - and hoping there isn't a room full of dogs looking for playtime.
Dark- I thought that was the funniest and most accurate part- my cat meowing constantly and very forlornly all the way to AND from the vet, then mad at me for the rest of the day.

Absolutely nailed it, I laughed so hard. From trying to confine the cats inside subtley to trying to get them into the carrier to the vet experience and the shock of the vet bill. Been through it so many times. And the cat yelling the whole ride. How Simon looks driving the car is how we always felt. Always so stressful.
Thank god my boys are quiet in the car. They’ll cry once or twice and then that’s it.

I've watched a lot of Simon's Cat, but this is my favorite so far. So relatable! Cat licking his sore, hiding when Simon gets sneaky, using treats as a lure, the fight to get in the carrier, loud meows on the drive to the vet, perfectly accurate vet routine, etc. Pure gold! The only difference for me ... my cats are always silent on the drive home ... like they know it's over and can relax.

One of the many things I love about these cartoons is the lovely, gentle, music. It 's very subtle and evocative. I find myself humming the main theme quite often.

Brilliant! My favourite part is when Simon first goes into the kitchen and his cat is holding on to the belt of Simon’s bathrobe and being dragged in, then when he turns to get the cat food the kitten is on his back. 😆😆😆

I love the days where everything was simple, the world and the problems were easy and all you dreamed about is new console. These videos bring me back to those times...
The best part is the surprise on Simon's face at 9:23 how easy going the vet is and how the cat is treated within a minute with no problems. This is so much ME going to the vet with my Cat. It is always amazing to see how calm my cat becomes on the Vets Table once the Vet takes over ..... !!! She is like a magician !!!

This is all so true. From the "get up and give me food, human" to the drama of going to the vet. My boy is so hysterical when we go to the vet. Once he is in the carrier he will meow like he is being murdered. My vet is only a 5 minute walk away, but the people are always starring at me like "oh my god, what did you do to your cat?!" xD He is a class A drama queen. His sister is braver.

Locking the cat door was not done as part of the morning ritual--it was done to prevent escape because Simon knew he'd have to chase down the cat to get him to the vet on this particular day.

I can't understand why this wasn't presented as a pilot for a TV series. The animation, art (including lighting), characters, story, jokes (especially about having a cat). This is perfect!
I prefer it remains Indie as much as possible. Big networks would ruin it.
I would like to congratulate the entire team involved in this video! It is without a doubt the best short film I have ever seen in my life! Simons cat videos are very popular here in Brazil, most of the people that are passionate about cats made me, enjoy and share these little videos that reflect in a good mood how is the day to day with our kittens.

Moved my cat from Connecticut to Delaware a few months ago and boy oh boy that was an adventure. When I finally got to my apartment (after 6 hours), he didn't want to even come out of the carrier!

Our cat, Thor, caught a bee once and got stung on his paw, too. The yelp he made was almost human. He ran inside and I checked him over for any serious injury. Aside from one paw being twice the size of the other, he was fine.
We gave him half a can of "treat" cat food (tiny cans we get and give occasionally) and gave him lots of love and space. He spent most of the day licking his hurt paw and was fine the next day.
He never really hunted outside after that, despite his sister, Freya, trying to teach him. He's a big goofball and I love him.

As a Vet Assistent AND Cat owner...this is so 100% acurate hahaha
One thing that I really liked about this short is the fact that having to go through all the little rigmarole to basically prep your house, for the vet appointment is very true. And I also like how the veterinarian is depicted as being very patient with the cat. Because well 99% of the time veterinarians are extremely patient with pets. Because well obviously pets don’t always like it when we take them to this place because they always associate the vet with pain and misery and fear and all that stuff.
Of course there’s Simon’s reaction to the bill. Which is also very true. Vet bills are not fun.

OMG! Yes! It is very much like that! The amount of subterfuge, deception, and preparation it takes! Then she distrusts and resents me for days, sometimes even weeks afterwards! I hate to break her trust, and there's no way I can make her understand I'm doing it to literally save her life! Such is the burden, I willingly accept, to protect the one I love most.

Ihave had twelve cats during my life sadly all now deceased.Not a day goes by that I don't miss them, some more than others.My favourite lived to the ripe old age of nineteen.Simon captures so perfectly the character and adorable quirks of cats that are so unresistable.Watching the videos is a bittersweet experience but I always laugh out loud. 💕💕

A classic! Everyone I know loves Simon's cat! I had cats and they are depicted 100% în this, also... a husky and the main traits behind his behaviour are exactly like this:))) selfish, cute, funny, clueless and also always finding a way to achieve his goals.
I love how the vet catches the cat like a speeding bowling ball when it speeds out of the cage. They always know how to handle cats so well. But most cats will jump off the table at least once and look around the place.
