Really loved these titles, it conveyed solidly to me ITN's long standing authority for tv news, not the 'itv news' branded rubbish currently seen today, Martin was a real talent.
The News at Ten theme (in reworked form here) is originally from a library piece called The Awakening by Johnny Pearson. The music is currently on youtube. The 'News at Ten' part appears about 2/3 through the piece.
Thanks so much for uploading these - really fascinating to see. Do you know if titles for News at Ten ever made it past the planning stage? I know new music was composed for the bulletin but ultimately never used on air. Would be interesting to know if titles were filmed to go with it!
Thanks to all for the question and the answer about the clock - I’ve wondered this for about 25 years myself! It’s a shame this theme only lasted about four years, the modified theme in 1999 didn’t suit the programmes as well as this one.
The greatest news titles ever. The face of Big Ben and that music screamed ITN and had an authoritie quality about it. When the 1999 titles came out they looked sloppy, they were too short, the click face was unclear and the music was 4 notes repeated over and over again. Would love to see something on this scale again.
@@cchance1973 Deffo, the 1999 ITV brand refresh looked awful! So many horrible garish colours and a bad reworking of the 1995 theme. The 1990s were a great decade for presentation, many themes and styles would be fitting now, better than what we’ve got. The BBC David Lowe themes, which to me are just a collection of pips and beeps are one example, I’m quite taken aback they’ve been used for 22 years : (
Martin Lambie-Nairn was a genius. These titles are timelessly classy.

That was all Carlton’s fault for uniting the ITV Regions and it all started when the ITC chose Carlton over ThamesTV
I like the News At Ten influnces in the theme music.
Why was the big hand only used right at the end in the finished product? I quite like it going round the rest of the clock.👍
Back when News themes were epic at the time.
Hello, Martin. I have one question:
Do you happen to know the music's source, please?

Do you mean a NAT theme with the same style as this one (this clock, blue studio etc)? That would be really interesting to see
@@Captainpubwatch News at 10 had their own titles and set
@Max Bogie i know it did from 1992 to 1999 when the bulletin got axed until January 2001 and changed to the Itv Nightly News at 11pm
👍
From ITN news at ten with Trevor McDonald.
Did you actually film Big Ben or was that clock created in Post Production?
It was an incredibly detailed 1/3 scale model built by Asylum filmed on a motion control camera.

I guess these are "season-based"
