Making the biggest play of my high school career. Only to find out my grandfather passed due to surgery complications before the game started. I remember getting up the next morning and going to a fall ball game. Hitting a double, a single and getting 2 walks. Definitely a bittersweet experience. Since that day I carry a Cubs keychain he got me in back pocket to every baseball game

Plus, he would’ve gotten pretty much the same in Atlanta cause the Braves gave their stars discount contracts as well which are better deals in my opinions.
From what I understand he would have taken a home town discount, but the cubs were paying him so much, the braves could make a reasonable offer. So that may have been part of the reason, but I think the difference was money TBH
This is a touching story and Dansby will forever be a Brave to me but other than his grandfather being a fan there were 177,000,000 reasons he became a Cub.

As a braves fan I was heartbroken when dansby left but I'm thankful for what he did for our team and I'm glad that he went to the cubs to honor his grandfather ....we will miss him but he's a great guy and I wish him the best!

But now going into my last season of U ball (im in 14U) it will be hard to look over to the fence and not see him there.
It’s cool Dansby. TBS and WGN were so nice to us all in the 80’s and 90’s with all the great baseball. It was especially great like he was talking about to come home from school everyday and watch the Cubbies.
This was a reason because the Braves were not going to pay him the money. I’m thankful for what he did in Atlanta and he will forever be a champion. The emergence of Vaughn Grissom was why he wasn’t offered a long term contract like the other core players. Grissom put up the same numbers as Dan when he first came up.
Dude earned a big pay check. Any Atlanta fan that is angry with him is a bandwagon fan or not old enough to remember the 90’s. Cause when we won a World Series, EVERYONE chased a check eventually. And they earned it
