This seems like it was supposed to be the Kyrie Flytrap, but when they eliminated the Kyrie line they decided to rebrand it and release it under the GT banner since they had already developed it.
The outsole and toe rubber wrapping back made me think the same thing. Glad I'm not alone in noticing
As much as i love to rock the GT Cut 3….those Academy joints look clean as HELL!!!!! Plus that price point was the cherry on top! Those could be an everyday beater too and they still look fly!!!
I just got these and played in them this morning. Traction is incredible, padding is very nice in forfoot and heal. They are also very light and help me to be taller and faster. I now have a great shoe to play in for sure.
I just bought a pair of these Academy's for an old (60+) friend who wears no name trash shoes...Hoping he'll love the upgrade.
for an over 30 pro, do you think these would work? ps not a nike fan

These look comfy and minimalist enough to rock casually, especially at that price point!
The takedown model that I really liked was the takedown huarache 2k4. I had two pair of low tops back in the day. All black with white stitching and white/black/red. I wore them out pushing carts at target. Wish they’d bring them back

I've always been more about "keep it simple and sturdy" when it comes to my sneakers.
I remember when the Nike Alphadunk and the Nike Zoom Rize came out in 2019. The Zoom Rise was WAYYYYY better than the Alphadunk.
Man zoom rize, that takes me back. I used to want them badly back then. Now I just realized that's basically 5 years ago it's crazy
The academy’s with the game day insoles is a GAME CHANGER
Was walking through the famous sneaker st area in hong kong just as this vid dropped and saw three colourways of the academy whilst watching the review... well i just had to try them on along with the cut 3. Not much in it from the instore try on, would be hard pressed to pick them in a blindfold situation. Fit of the academy was kinder on my widefoot and closer to thebm cut 2 that i have.

I agree with Mrs. wing 100% the academy is meant to onboard people that are apprehensive of the Cut 3s (or any expensive hoop shoe really) but that’s not necessarily bad because I also recognize that the Cut 3 would likely be the better overall shoe for me when they’re on a very good sale at least 😂
I love it when a shoe like this comes along. This is what I would have been told I could afford as a kid (like maximum) so I would still feel special with something like this even if it wasn't flagship stuff.
awaiting for that GT jump new color way the red and black with the gold swoosh I need those , them GT cut white and red are still a sexy shoe i hope they hit the outlet

If you’re a guard these are great , the Gt cut 3’s are kyries with hella cushion . They feel great . Especially if you’re an explosive player . You get to the basket quick and landings are very soft on your knees. I wouldn’t recommend these for bigs .

The horizontal zoom bag kinda makes sense for bottom loaded zoom. We'll have to see.

isnt this the same setup as the zoom separate? rotated zoom + dual density phylon?
Kinda feel like they made a whole different shoe last for this because they are going to use it for some other model maybe the GT Academy 2 would use the same last. The Zoom bag placed vertical is bonkers specially if it's on the center and not under the ball of the foot.
They remind me the Ja 1...

It blows my mind that nike still can’t give us an exact description of what tech and foams they use in their products. Looks like a solid budget model tho!
if you check Nike's Tennis line, kinda similiar to these new low cut basketball kicks but with more techs and those are also solid hoops shoes (since the 90's. Ask John Stockton :) )

Are the GT Cut Academys better than the Sabrina 1s? Been thinking on which one to get (I usually play outdoors)
So is this the new Air Max Impact? $95 shoe with a comparable setup than a lot of mid-tier signatures? Also interesting is that it uses the same Zoom bag as the Gianni 5 and Ja 1, but just vertical. I'd be interested to know the margins for Nike on the single rectangle bag vs the heel Air Max in the impact, because with Nike cost-cutting and downgrading the tech for shoes this year, this might be the better money maker than the Impact 4. Regardless, I think that this might a great pair of everydays too, as well as a good out door/shootaround pair.

I like these, i think the zoom placement is a miss but i like that they went the soccer way. Nike soccer line is like the top end model and all the takedowns are the same thing but with lesser materials and price instead of being a completely different shoe just cheaper (ie lebron-soilder[rip]-witness/ambasador, kd-trey5, freak-inmortality, kyrie-low-flytrap[rip], etc). Also the 80$ soccer shoes are also called the “academy” tier (elite>pro>academy).
They’ve been doing takedowns within running and basketball since the 80s. Definitely not the first brand to do it either.
So these are basically a reshaped Jordan Zoom Separate? The setup is identical, same Zoom layout, same foam midsoal, same textile build.

Nike has been using “academy” in their soccer cleats for a while. There’s the “Elite” with top tier materials that athletes wear, “Pro” that a slight take down in upper materials, then the “academy” with cheapest materials used. Not familiar with the cushioning, but I’d assume there’s slight differences
There’s a level below Academy, which is Club. Academy boots are at least useable, the Clubs last half a practice 😭

Nah these dropped around Christmas they were up for like a day
They probably spent on the new molds bc it’s the first GT takedown and they might reuse the tooling for 2 years like they do with the Precision line
And they wanna make sure ppl with $ buy the more expensive one

This was such an disheartening thing to hear TT... I was thinking about buying the GT cut 3s. Now I don't know if I should go for them or not. I hated playing in the LeBron NXXT gens because of the hard phylon midsole (even with zoom air on both forefoot and the heel it's still not soft after a year of playing in them) and mediocre traction on dust, I had to wipe every 30 seconds... In addition to not supportive enough upper which made my foot fall off the footbed on hard cuts. I wonder if buying the GT cut 3s will help me resolve that issue...

On another note. There is a Nike that Kobe wore when he left Adidas that I bought, but can remember what it was. It was white with a small blue Nike emblem and air sole. Almost like a volleyball/cross trainer. Mid top shoe. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

What's weirder is they created a 3rd variation in GT Cut Cross
Wearing GT Cut academy, I don't feel the zoom forefoot and the impact absorption isn't that great. The only thing that I feel great about is the Cut silhouette
The GT Cut 3 forefoot looks as grippy as a track shoe on concrete. I think I’ll just settle with the Academy……if the resellers don’t snatch them. They look more reliable & stable, not sure about all of that cushion in the heel in the 3.

Is it just me or can anyone tell that Nike shoes have seemed smaller and tighter lately? I normally wear a 13 and GT cut and Lebron shoe I bought a 14. Even feels like I could go with a 15 in the LeBronXXI. Giannis shoe really seems small.
yeah they seem small. i use to wear size 11 for bball shoes but now i need 11.5 which is a bummer cause 11.5 always have lower stock.
I think it’s hit or miss. Some of my air max 95s I have in 9.5 and in 10 and I can’t really feel a difference. I mean I obviously feel the 10s are a little looser but shit it’s not much of a difference

thank god that here in the philippines. GT CUT 3 cost only 1,600 pesos😂😂 in cartimar. kaya may mga mayaman sa cartimar pasay na bumubili😂😂😂 nagmumukha kasi orig kapag mayaman angay suot ng shoes galing sa cartimar.
That zoom setup is nonsense, they did the same crap with the Jordan Zoom Separate. I can't imagine the logic that goes into that decision.
