After that game I realized that he was really special and seven national championships later Nick Saban has cemented himself as the greatest college football coach of all time.
Earned vs Given... We knew this wasn't an Alabama team from years past. They got in off of pedigree and dragged Texas in with them. Even Oregon would have done better than 116 passing yards.
I’ve never seen a center at any level of football have as many issues as Seth Mclaughlin. Sad he will be remembered at Bama for his mistakes, when everything besides his snapping was elite. Not gonna miss him too bad though 😂
I’m an Auburn fan. I’ve hated Saban since he was at LSU. Basically since I was in high school, he’s been on the sidelines of schools that I hated and won nattys with them. But watching him on this show this season has SLIGHTLY made me like him just a little bit. He works for evil schools, but Saban’s brilliant and you guys have done a great job making him relaxed and not talk in coach speak. Absolutely need to have him back next season, but I hope he checks in time to time in the offseason.
Game went to OT. Came down to a handful of players making some big plays. A tipped ball that, if it had slightly more pressure from a finger tip, Alabama wins. Instead, the guy who almost ruined it for Michigan with an idiotic block in the back that was bad even for Pop Warner level moments ago, makes an amazing grab. That’s how it should be. Nothing to criticize or hate. Close game that was decided by a handful of plays made by players. Not refs, not coaches. On the other hand, I can’t recall a fan base or school having ever acquitted themselves worse, or done more damage to national reputation, than FSU. It’s been beyond belief. WTF??

The issue is that bama and sec have had a talent advantage due to being overly hyped by espn and some "creative recruiting" over the years. With NIL and portal neither bama or the sec will have a talent advantage. They would get favorable inclusion in the bcs era bc of bogus "rankings" throughout the season and same thing carried over into the playoff. A team that doesn't play for a conference title effectively gets a bye over a higher seeded team. That ONLY happened in college football and no team benefited more than bama. Look at Saban's record against teams where he didn't have a talent advantage. It's not very good. Michigan was the better team and should have won by 10 in regulation. Saban just retired bc it's now a level playing field.
As a lifelong UGA and Miami Dolphins fan, I respect Coach Saban for his accomplishments at Alabama but hate him at the same time for setting the Miami Dolphins back 5 yrs with his foray into NFL coaching. It became very obvious, very quickly, that he was in over his head at the NFL level and simply took the job for the $. Unlike in College Football, a head coach in the NFL has to answer to the owner, the GM, and several other front office guys. In other words, he knew he would not have full control of the team like a head coach does in college. The professional NFL players simply will not be treated like freshmen in college by any head coach and there has to be a balance of respect from the players and the head coach (which was apparently lacking in Miami). He tried the Urban Mayer at Jacksonville approach and it did not end well. Great college coach, but terrible NFL coach. And the constant lying about never going back to college and then bailing made Saban one of the most hated men in Miami Dolphins football history. Now as a huge UGA fan, I do appreciate the fact that he gave Kirby Smart a job and helped mold him into the coach that he is now. I just can’t wait until he retires from Bama as they can be kryptonite to the Dawgs. Let’s also not forget that Kirby Smart was a big reason why Bama won so many national championships. Four of Saban’s six championships at Alabama came with Smart as his defensive coordinator and chief recruiter.
