Interesting you should bring that up. I hadn't eaten Froot Loops for decades and not long ago for some reason I invested in a box. Hadn't eaten the crap since I was a kid (when Froot Loops first came out) and I thought the cereal looked odd at first. Then I realized the big hunks of sugar that used to be on it were missing. Thought maybe it was old age and bad memory on my part until I heard Toucan Sam mention "sugar crystals" and I realized my memory on it was correct. But, then, a lot of the kid cereals back then were loaded with sugar and they owned up to it right in the name of the stuff. Remember "Sugar Smacks"? And I'm remembering sugar coated rice crispies of various sorts. They really heaped it on. Hell, no wonder we all had cavities in our teeth ;-)
The reason is because parents. They’re gonna think that it’s full of sugar and not healthy and it’ll prevent sales because of parents going around and complaining about the cereal and spreading the misinformation.
And the - "take these pills to maybe fix this and most likely cause 500 side effects you can take these other pills for that do the same over and over forever" , as well as "sue this and that and you're entitled to billions of dollars for nothing", etc etc etc - commercials that are on constantly and consistently take literally 5 to 20 minutes are WAY better, huh?
Wikipedia says: The cartoon character Toucan Sam was originally voiced by Mel Blanc, using an ordinary American accent. Blanc's original commercials were noted for their use of Pig Latin (referring to the cereal as OOT-fray OOPS-lay). The ad agency later decided to switch to the English accent more commonly associated with the character. They then employed Paul Frees to do what is, in effect, an imitation of Ronald Colman.
From what I read this commercial was from 1963 with the introduction of Fruitloops. My Sister and I were chosen to try different variations and send in forms telling them our opinions, I don't remember the reward, maybe it was just free boxes of cereal with deadly amounts of dye and sugar crystals but I'm here as proof we survived this and sitting in the back of our station wagon, not wearing seatbelts, while our parents motored down the highway at 70 MPH in our '57 Ford wagon (beige).
I was there, child. we sang the Froot Loops theme song lots of times. we had a huge gray dodge boat to ride around in, singing that jingle. How old were you in 1963? I was eleven .
1965's Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal commercial tells a story about a blue toucan with a multicolored toucan beak named Toucan Sam who lives in a tropical jungle, speaks with an English accent, and enjoys his adventures in several locations with his three nephews and a box of Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal whose cereal circles were made of oats and contains some tropical fruit flavors which includes oranges, lemon, cherry, lime, purple berry, and blueberry. He finds himself investigating a wonderful smell from several new kinds of fruits along a way.
Mel Blanc was, is and always will be forever the man of 1,000 voices. Born May 30th 1908 died July 10th, 1989. Buried Hollywood forever cemetery location Los Angeles, CA
Well, Kellogg's puts real orange, lemon, and cherry flavors with colors to match in these crispy little cereal circles made from oats then spangles them with big crunchy sugar crystals and places them together in one red box.
Toucan Sam says "They ell-smay so elicious-day!" ("They smell so delicious!" in Pig Latin)Nephew 1 says "They smell good too!"They must be obsessed with the smell.
Wow!! People arguing about Froot or Fruit Loops. This is so asinine. This is an early ad it's always been FROOT no matter how y'all remember it. Go back here on RUclips and check out the ads from the past to current. It's never changed. That is the legendary Mel Blanc providing Sam's voice.
I like the commercial...I bet the children of the time period drove their parent's nuts with the pig Latin, though. I can picture my nieces and nephews had this commercial been running today...they'd be running around talking like that and I'd probably say "STOP!!!". I'm more familiar with Paul Frees take on the character... "just follow your nose, it always knows". I once had a 45 RPM of the character...they were giving them away as prizes inside the cereal box at the time.

maybe there was such a commercial, but you still have the name of the cereal wrong. Oot-Fray Oops Lay!. Froot Loops. hahaha on you.
Wait!! Does the blue toucan look like Tim?

Smart kids.
You are one old man
yay for mel blanc! R.I.P., Mel!
Froot loops actually smell good though 💀
Wow that commercial just feels like it came from a time long ago. I wonder what a kid from that time placed into today would think about commercials.

It was always FROOT loops, I ate them as a kid. And it was Toucan Talk on the cereal packets.

It's just a cold he's not dying. Sam doesn't need to do anything. Besides this was back in the 1960s when kids weren't weaklings like today.

Did you know Mel blanc (The voice of Bugs Bunny) was the voice of toucan Sam in this commercial?
I just realized did the 2 baby toucans actually grow up years later, cause I thought they were replaced at first
I didn’t know Toucan Sam’s fluent in Pig Latin?!😂
I do like the older commercials the children as babies and in the recent commeircals with the children they gotten older keeping with continuity
I remember when Kellogg used black as the Froot Loops package color until circa 1968.
