- All the U.S. made pepper sprays were sold out, so I decided to review all the cheaper Indian made pepper sprays. Bad idea. They're all fog-type and really spray back on you! I get to feel how effective they are while testing these pepper sprays on my roof in India.

Biggest takeaway? Whatever pepper spray you choose, buy two. One for practice, one for carrying. And avoid fog-type sprays if you can - not possible here in India unfortunately. Update: I'm not wearing a mask because when you need to protect yourself you might not be wearing such protective gear.

I once had a guy grab me from behind (in the US) and I used a typical American pepper spray and sprayed him over my shoulder... just a small squirt and he was done, he let me go and I was able to run away. It was a steady pointed stream so no splashback. If I used one of the ones featured in this video I woulda been hit too since the guy was right behind me in a half-nelson. Ya those aerosol ones are crap, what's the point of incapacitating your attacker if you also get incapacitated?
Even pepper spray is illegal here in the UK... Doesn't mean we need it any less, creeps are everywhere in the world.

Great job reviewing the most common pepper sprays available here in India, I don’t think anyone else here has reviewed pepper sprays as comprehensively as you have. I have purchased impower in the past. After watching the video I agree that cobra seems to be the most effective brand in India. I definitely think companies need to do more research, they should remember that they are producing a self defence tool and should cut corners with their product. We should try manufacturing a prototype based on the American brands. 😛

I can feel for what Karl is going through. I field tested the Cobra spray. Had sprayed in on the ground floor of my building, people on the 3rd floor came out asking what was that smell and were coughing. But yeah, fog type !!

I was a beat cop in Honolulu, Hawaii. Pepper spray is a great tool. Saw it work on quite a few folks. The fight USUALLY goes right out of them.
We cops all had to get sprayed in the police academy. The guy who hit me with the spray was NOT my biggest fan and he painted my eyeballs with the stuff. AGONY! And the amount of snot it makes is amazing. My eyeballs hurt for about a week afterwards.
Compare that with getting tazed. Yes, I was the stupid guy who said he would "ride the bull" for 5 seconds. Felt like I was getting hit with a million whips all at once. But...when it's over, it's over. I will take a tazer over pepper spray any day of the week!

Based on the little research I have done, fog type is better for civilians than stream or gel. Yes there will be a blow back, but generally civilians don't practice enough to get accuracy with gel/stream, where accuracy is important. With fog, you just need to point it at the general direction and spray.
For example, with gel/stream, Someone can just cover their face with their hands and come out ok, since the stream hit their hands... with a fog system, since it's in the air, If he breaths in, even if he covers his face with glasses, he will be effected to some level.
