This is an informative interview about underrepresented art and what it means to have art from people of color in major museums. Kerry James Marshall's description of the art work itself is also so helpful to understanding the piece and its meaning. Excellent interview and more like pieces like this are needed so that we can incorporate the voices of the artists in teaching students to appreciate a diversity of art and diverse perspectives. Omg. I loved this interview & I appreciate it so much. I visited D.C for the first time in May & stood staring at this painting for so long. I felt the same way about black figures in art...the same. Thank you!
marvelous painting and a wonderful artist talk. i especially appreciate Mr. Marshall's discussion of his use of scale. We are planning to make this painting a focal point of some of our homeschool study on history, art history, and now math (uses of scale and magnitude). thank you!
Soooo interesting. Kerry James Marshall has an exhibit in LA at our Museum of Contemporary Art. After hearing this and other interviews, I'm looking forward to seeing his work. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful art work and strong understanding of the work that he does
