Hi Jennifer! Thank you! Examples: 1) The government is soon releasing its austerity package in order to cut expenses. 2) The family is the basic unit of society. 3) Owing to the recession, the company is downsizing.
My family is great I love them my family establishes a group with our friends for traveling,,, everyone works his mission regularly ... so this trip is fantastic.so the group decides to travel next year.
Hello Jennifer! Nice to see you! Thank you so much for the video! I like learning by using the classification and tables. My examples: Everyone sometimes dreams. Their company yields a good income. A new tribe is found by researchers. Your advice works very well!
Everyone in this community loves Jennifer and it is not hard to see why , she is both gorgeous and unique. Jennifer audience gives an standing ovation every time she finishes her lessons. The Army is ready to defend and fight for Jennifer anytime , anywhere against anyone .
It's really amazing lesson for me at least because I didn't know that you use the collective nouns in English like we do in Arabic, I was guess that we only use this deep grammar when we treat a group word - for example - as one unit or as one entity and the meaning will mention always to plural, we call it in Arabic ( اسم جنس جمعي مثل كلمة التفاح ) . And also new words, new sentences, thank you so much Madam
I really love your video Ma'am 😊do you have a video about abstract and concrete noun?can I have a link of that video if you just have😊thank you!keep creating informative videos coz your way of teaching is the best
Good afternoon sister, 1. My team receives an appreciation from the clients when we done project successfully without a deviation. 2. Hi teacher, these are my examples: 1.Everyone is eating the food rapidly. 2. The class is leaving 3. The audience is going to get thrilled with the concert. 2. The team doesn't look very enthusiast about the new proposal. I'm looking forward to read your comments.

People is the plural form of "person". So no, it's not collective. It's an irregular plural noun. You can learn more here: ruclips.net/video/BLaf9_jHQyQ/видео.html
Every teacher here on RUclips teach only the easy parts but never touch upon the more difficult aspects of any topic. So if you don't mind, kindly give complete lecture on a particular topic. Thank you.
I'm kinda confused now because I watched a video from EngVid about collective nouns, and the teacher explains that it could be both singular or plural. Basically in the US they treat collective nouns as singular; whereas, in the UK they treat it as plural. By in large, the teacher states that it depends on you if you are accentuating the whole entity or individual.
I'm sorry you're confused. I teach American English. In British English (which I don't speak or teach) I know they have differences with collective nows. If you live and speak British English, I recommend following those rules for collective nouns. But in North America it would sound weird to us to hear "The team are...", which might be normal in British English. Hopefully that doesn't confuse you further! Best of luck!
I loved this video! I learned a lot about the very cofusing subject called Collective Nouns hahahaha! Thanks for teaching all the english grammar (very basic to advanced) here in your channel
Could you please tell me which one of these sentences is correct : ● my family has bought some land in southern france recently. ●my family have bought some land in southern france recently.
"People" is the plural form of "Person". So 1 person, but 2+ people. Because people is plural, it's conjugated as "they". The people ARE going to the party :)
@@JForrestEnglish thank you so much for your timely answer . I had seen that words like Guerrilla or Arsenal FC didn't use "is"when conjugating the verb to be
Both “My family is” and “My family are” are correct in British English, while “My family is” is most common in American English. This is because “family” is a collective noun, and American English generally treats collective nouns as singular, while British English treats them as plural.
Hi Jennifer! I’m sorry but I’m a little bit confused... If I say "the staff is not happy.", which pronoun should I use in the next sentence to replace "staff"? If I follow my gut feeling, I would change the subject-verb agreement and say "they are not happy"... Could you help me out? All the best!
Staff is a collective noun. Ex/ The staff is working hard. Interestingly, we would use "they" when the subject is obvious. Ex/ The staff is working hard. They have a deadline next week. Because we wouldn't use "he/she/it" to replace "staff". We would be "they". It's kinda a weird area of English, isn't it!
