Christine understands the power of quiet and stillness. It can draw you in to a moment far more than a lot of histrionics onstage. Just watch her face and listen. Such a stunning scene. The entire audience was spellbound and silent in that incredible "Coming...mother, darling" moment.
I felt this in just watching the video on RUclips---I so very much regret not having been able to see this live on stage as was intended. This left me in a state of awe & appreciation. What a legacy! What a legacy!
This was the show that prompted my renewed interest in musicals. It brought me back to Broadway after a very long hiatus. I couldn’t wait to see this and it didn’t disappoint. Long time Grey Gardens fan and it definitely didn’t disappoint! In fact, I loved Christine Ebersole so much that I took my 6 year old daughter to see War Paint. Ebersole posed for a picture with her after the show which we both will always cherish!
Well goddamn. Saw her perform this from the front row on Broadway as a college student and it was life altering.

unfortunately until fairly recently it was not possible/allowed to film shows in their entirety due to Equity contracts, so things shot for promotional purposes were strictly limited in regards to the amount of time that could be recorded. So often times...illicit recordings...are the only way anything could have been preserved in its entirety (outside of Lincoln Center archives)
