KIA EV6 [Genting Hill Climb] - 1st On Genting / AWD, 605Nm Super Fun Drive / YS Khong Driving

- Finally, after a long wait, because of the global scarcity of the Kia EV6, we got our hand on one, and of course we just had to see how it performs on our favourite mountain.
We actually came up twice, but the first drive was botched a little as the road was pretty wet. (Whether or not we get to see that video will depend on our editors, hahaha.) However, we managed to get good weather on our second try, but out of respect for the 605 Nm of torque, we decided to keep traction control on.
As expected, the EV6 took to the slopes like a duck to water, and despite being 2,103 kg in weight, it was actually surprisingly agile.
My big worry was the brakes on the fast downhill section in the first part, but the EV6 made it through without any issues.
We used up 40 percent of the charge for the entire journey from Petaling Jaya to the top of the mountain, which included a good 15 minutes of hard acceleration up the hill, but coming down, it hardly used any because of the recovery.
There is also the i-pedal mode, that invokes maximum regeneration, so on a net basis, the remaining power from the yop of the hill until we reached home just dropped 5 percent.
All in all, it was a great drive - I am starting to like EVs.

I think the fact thay we have such a great road here helps a lot.
And yes, tue regen was so good we used Zero power for the entire 40 km it took us to get to level ground back in the city.

Superb car…who would have thought Hyundais and Kias would become desirable one day. I agree the sound of the motor sounds like an alien ship.

some how throw back the memory of the science fiction movie "back to the future" when the rocket car (DELOREAN DMC-12) travelling time space... back to the reality, after every corner, the torque roar fiercely with no hesitation, a very nice EV car. Thanks to Uncle Khong's advise while roaring this machine aggressively.

Not really fan of EV when Tesla came out. But upon seeing these massive electric beasts EV6 and Ioniq 5, my oh my, I do quite like it. Looks brawny and wide up front.

It isn't just the motor sound, there is also the EV-themed sound piping thru the 14 speakers to elevate the experience.

Hey ys Kong went to try the climb last Sunday did it 2 times from the half way mark as my hotel was there. Quite a fun road to be on alot of give and take with the locals. Followed your lines.
I notice alot of people cook their brakes going down and not use engine breaking. You can actually smell the matalic smell going down. Had to use d1 and slowly go down. Cheers!

Although the seats are meant to be comfortable instead of doing high speed corner of course..

Hi, YS, how strong is the regenerative braking, does it help you to reduce stressing the brake disc? hence heating the disc less..
There are 3 levels of brake energy regeneration, plus the i- pedal or 1pedal feature.

Surely you must miss the third pedal, not knowing what to do with your left feet😂😂......no more rev matching/pedal work etc etc, the downside of EV I suppose.

One thing I meant to ask you; when performance driving how much effective regenerative [dynamic] braking were you able to use?
On the uphill, not much, but plenty on the way down. Almost 80 percent downhill.
@@YSKhongDriving So I take it that the remaining 20% disc braking is where you have to make sharp corrections in order to stabilize your car, am I right?

This car is insane! Driving was superd.. Speechless..
Really beautiful car especially at night. Saw a silver car one time with a company stickers from some kind of energy tech company. Started with 315km on sport... 330km on eco... At the end of the run on sport its only left with 172km haha. I wonder how much would it it be able to regenerate if eco mode is back on the downhill.

Each vehicle is fun in its own way, and every vehicle is fun.
Don't even try to guess which fun car I am taking up tomorrow. It's a 1.3 litre car.
I believe this car is over 300k... and yes, more powerful than any HRV, plus this has AWD. Resale value on the other hand... no.
ve 2 questions: 1. Can the 'engine sound' be completely turned off? 2. Does the EV6 have HUD? Dis not see it in the review.
Sound can be turned off, I think. There is no hud, or at least I do not remember seeing any.
Uncle how much % of battery that car use up and down genting?
From PJ to Genting and back, about 40 percent. If you are gentle, it will use less.
How is this kia compared to volvo xc40 recharge? Kia uses brakes and not battery regeneration?
Everything is about regenerating the batteries.

Nice drive as always uncle! From a pure handling perspective, does this handles better or the Volvo v60/s60? They are priced very similarly, and power output numbers are very closely matched on paper despite totally different power train.
Electric vehicles' biggest issues are the weight, but EV only platforms can resolve the problem by placing the batteries lower.
The EV is very different from the ICE vehicle.
