I was actually amused about her story, but in my local area beavers are actually known to be vitally important for maintaining wetlands and a host of other biodiversity. Even more interestingly with the current wildfires in the west coast of the U.S. is that they apparently create natural safe havens for animals to escape from the fires, making untouched oasis. So I agree with Emily they should re-introduce them back into the wild. (I am quite certain she knows more than I, but figured might as well add some fun info for anyone who reads.)
Our government made a landmark decision meaning Devon's beavers can stay after a successful experiment on the River Otter! I thought it was just me who was interested in this. :D
I have to admit that, as a Canadian, I am so envious of you Brits. I realise that it takes you some time and effort to get to sites, like this, but, in many cases, you are within a few hours of magnificent scenery. Where I live, in Ontario, I need to travel thousands of kilometres to see anything shown on the video. Keep it going!
Fantastic video James! I began totally agreeing with you , however, by the time I finished watching, I feel you need to add an amendment. The conclusion I came to, was that having a partner or friend like your wonderful wife Emily, that is willing to accompany you on these trips is the icing on the cake, especially one that is kind enough to feed you, be your researcher, one that watches your back, humours you, wine and dines you, tells hilarious mice stories, takes the blame for mis-direction and most importantly understands how a photographer thinks when he/she is in that moment of inspiration by being a partner that is willing to patiently wait (even in adverse conditions) allowing the photographer to hopefully realise the shot! That my friend is the ultimate! 🙏🏾
Ok, so I bought a beaver, like you suggested (that's a story in itself) and it is no help with my photography at all! However the biodiversty in my camera bag has increased substantially.
A few items 1. It is great to see Emily again. 2. My wife would find her amount of food appropriate for an afternoon snack. 3. That book is what we used when we visited Scotland and it is awesome!
As an Australian who is mildly allergic to the cold, northern Scotland was not particularly high on my bucket list, this video has changed my mind. Such a beautiful area, you've managed to introduce us southerners to some beautiful regions in your previous videos and you've done it again. Definitely going to make a trip through there some day. Fantastic video and stunning shots as usual, keep up the good work James.
The Isle of Skye is beautiful. I really enjoyed seeing it through your lens. Emily is awesome, It is fun to see her in your videos. I can relate to what you said about not going out shooting for a while, and then finally going out and taking pictures. I hadn’t done any shooting for a while, and finally got to go out the other day....Oh! It was so much fun. Great video, looking forward to the next one. Dean
This has cheered me up no end on a grim Saturday in Gateshead. Today I learnt about beavers, mice, loaves of bread falling from the sky and Emily’s feeding... top work 👍
Couldn’t agree more about a trip being the most useful tool for staying inspired! After basically spending the last six months indoors I’m heading to Skye in a couple of days, so this vid is perfectly timed (now just hoping the weather plays ball too). Anyway, cheers for the insight James, and Emily, beavers are always fascinating.
Not too long ago, a friend and I both upgraded our cameras, and a few weeks later, took a multi-day trip just to try them out. In addition to getting some good shots on that trip, it was also a chance to see what we now had the ability to do (would you know, cameras improved after a decade), and thus what to read up on/play with before the next trip. That trip paid dividends compared to going out locally for a short while many times.
Enjoyed this, thanks James! So true about where to spend your money. It's the same with mountain biking. Spending money on gear is nice, but it's nothing to actually going to some sweet trails or spending two weeks away with your mates in the Alps. Looking forward to the next episode of James spouts nonsense on a hill! 😂 I always learn something and you more than any other channel has helped to keep me grounded and focus on taking photos rather than worrying about a bunch of kit that will make bugger all difference.
Your vlog that so beautifully showed us the rocks and the mist, has without any doubt put Skye on my list. Your humorous tales of your photographic life, as you wander around with your good lady wife, have encouraged me to cease my repose, and with Camera in hand go out and over or under expose (probably), the world around me as best as I may, in the hope of achieving a more fulfilled day. This desire to take pictures I’m forced to surmise, is due to Emily and you. Your perfect “Morcambe”, to her perfect “Wise”. Great video. Thanks.
Glad I saw this video. We are planning to spend 3 weeks in Scotland in Sept 2022 and I see we need to bring warmer clothing! We live on the "wet" coast of Canada (BC) so we will be prepared for rain, but I see we should bring toque and gloves as well as a warm jacket. I love watching your videos as you are so 'yourself' on them. I feel like I am spending part of the day with you as opposed to just getting instruction in a studio. THANKS!
Let’s give it up for wives and their endless patience as we drone, video and photo on trips :D beautiful shots James, we were there last year, magical place. You must check out the isle of Mull next time!
Super supportive of beaver reintroduction, they are very valuable for flood defense which is going to be something we need more if. Also, now I want to go to the Scottish Isles :)
Nice to see all that again in video where I was 2 years ago but in my opinion skye has so much more interesting points then storr, neist point and fairy pools and like I see, you have the right book to find all this points. 😁 Scotland is absolutely great. I was there twice but I lost my heart at the first visit. And I will come back definitly
Emily is just hilarious and you should take her on more of your trips. The loaf of bread story made me spit my tea out where I laughed so much. Great team effort though
How on earth I missed your channel is beyond me but I am loving it. The spot you are sitting for the intro is just feet from where I took one of my favorite photos in Scotland when I was there is 2012. I am in Oregon so it was quite the adventure. Really enjoyed this video. Keep going! Also makes me want to try a Lumix. May have to rent one for a bit. I'm an Aussie so your bit about Australia made me laugh pretty hard. GDonya!
Great video, ages (film days) since I visited Skye, must go back soon. It may have been foggy at the beginning of the video, but your jacket certainly brightened things up, I needed sunglasses. I’m all for beavers being reintroduced but what if they take a liking to one of your favourite trees, some landscape photos just wouldn’t look the same with nibbled stumps 😀
Hey James, I don't know how I found your channel but I am so glad I did. Videos like these are an absolute joy to watch and I love your photos. Thank you for creating pure and good content that I will come back to time and time again!
My memory of Isle of Skye is constant raining. We arrived with our motorcycles frozen in to the bones to the Tallisker distillery all wet through. Normally I am very restricted to drink alcohol when driving on two wheels but this day I calculate that we should be at the distillery for a while so that drum we were offered on arriving was quickly swept. When leaving some hours later the weather was some what better and we were able to see the beauty of the island. I hope I can visit this island again and with my camera and having better weather.
Really enjoyed that video, James. That first image of the red telephone box was probably the best image of a red telephone box I’ve ever seen...um...that probably didn’t sound entirely like a compliment, but seriously, that was a great shot.
James...great stuff as always. I love the smooth jazz music you use. I’d love to see you do an episode where you are not permitted to post process. You have to trust that your knowledge and the advanced technology of your equipment will yield the best results. I’m wondering if we are getting to the point in 2020 where cameras are advanced enough that post could become a thing of the past.
Morning, just enjoyed this morning’s video and now feeling guilty about my comments on your Instagram post when I referred to your photography based relationships video (in jest of course). Your description of how much you’ve missed photography trips was heartfelt and touching and fully explains why Emily was prepared to walk for hours with you. Great vid as ever and only strengthens my resolve to get to Skye one day.
I have just finished up a week long road trip to reinvigorate my photography and couldn't agree more with the sentiment of this video. It's been a tough year to stay motivated but once you get the bug back you're jumping out of bed for those early morning shots again
Just recently found your channel James and loving the content and your breezy style. Very informative content. You deserve way way more views and likes, will spread the word. Good job.
That was a very enjoyable piece of video. So I don't know how many times I've seen the obligatory b-roll shot of the landscape photographer walking past the camera en route to a spectacular vista. The shot of you and Emily walking past the camera deep in conversation was brilliant and so much a breath of fresh air! I would much rather see a couple rabbiting shite as they stroll though the landscape than the forced determination of someone ... okay enough you get the picture! 😁 I was supposed to be on the Isle of Mull back in May for a photography workshop and I'm really sad it didn't happen. It has been rescheduled for May 2021 but the way America has been dealing (or not dealing) with the "you know what" we might not be allowed into Scotland next May either! 😞 And finally beavers ... we love them here in New Hampshire and Maine! It is very rare that you don't see a Beaver Dam on a waterway when I'm out and about on my hikes! I'm not an expert on beaver but I do like their big floppy tails and their big tree chopping teeth! 😁
Great film! But you left one thing out... Last year I ventured to the Isle of Skye and got to photograph The Old Man of Storr too. That fateful day I decided to pack my bag with every photographic tool I own because, well, it doesn't look like that long of a walk. Anyway, that hike up there was grueling! Our party suffered a great loss as two of our four surrendered to exhaustion on the assent. Being Scotland in autumn, it was cold, so I layered. By the time I summited, well, I was pretty much just wearing long underwear, hiking boots, and a voluminous backpack bursting with gear and me dripping in sweat... it wasn't a good look... even for an American.
Hi James, great video again. It is always nice to see you both on camera. You two are such a nice couple! :-) By the way, the shot on 6:42 is awesome! Would love to see the editing on this...although i have to admit that am not finished watching this video and maybe it holds a surprise in this regard. :-D Greetings!
Love to see that interaction between you and Emily; bet she keeps your feet on the ground ... and keeps you well fed :-) I loved Skye when I visited it almost 2 decades ago, before all the herds arrived ... and before there was even a bridge come to think about it! To me (from the Netherlands) it's still one of the most outer-worldly landscapes that I've come across, especially Trotternish.
lovely to get out - it's a crazy year. Loved Skye and your trip reminds me I need to head back again (last visit 15 yrs). Not so sure about beavers? Was in south America 2 years ago. Large parts of natural woodland devastated by beavers near Ushuaia in Argentina. Once they get a foothold they can quickly chew their way through a lot of woodland, damming rivers and seriously affecting local habitat to detriment of some other species - be careful what you wish for. Just saying.
Great video James! So nice to see Skye again - it's quite a weird feeling watching a place on RUclips that you've been to in real life. I agree about the amount of people that visit, went in August 2017 and it was so busy, definitely didn't expect that and found that the places not in guide books were the best spots. But overall absolutely loved it and hope to get back there some day. Loved your photos & drone footage. Have just had a weekend away and totally agree about going somewhere different and inspiring. Definitely appreciate that way more after lockdown!
That is one of the best hikes I've ever done. We had a beautiful sunny day. It's one of those hikes that my partner and I call "Instant gratification hikes". Park the car head out and in minutes your right into the views.
Awesome video. You and Emily together are the best! And don't worry I did listen to the photography stuff as well. And I do hope you make a video when you do go back to the waterfall.
Great video, great landscape, great photos even with typical scottish weather. Brings back very pleasant memories. Will you sometimes share your experience with the Lumix S5?
Enjoyed watching that. We’ve just come back from the same trip as you guys. 2 days in Skye then on to the NC500 (I assume). We had the same weather in Skye and there really wasn’t a lot of photography going on becuase of it. Definitely a returning trip.
Great video, I see James has invested in a new jacket, the colour is more toned down unlike the bright orange 🤣. You have such a good and understanding wife! Making sure your nutritional requirements are met for all the hard photography work your producing! I say give Emily a gold medal 🤣
We did The Isle of Arran in February. (Ferry required) pics taken in between and during storm Dennis. A lot of love for the Scottish Islands. All unique in their own way.
Man you are one lucky.....person with your Emily. She does not mess around when it comes to provisioning for an afternoon stroll. Top of the range, James. ;-)
Great pictures of the ilse of Skie. I agree with "get a trip in rather than a camera" if you need to chose. On the other hand. Who doesn't like new toys 🙃
G'day James As always informative and light hearted,i do enjoy your stuff. Your ending comments though were pretty much spot on about us Aussies,so proud 😉🇦🇺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Every time I watch your videos, they include the important things/lessons about photography. A breath of fresh air compared to the dbags trying to sell their camera crap. Please stay true as you are. That's the best part.
When I worked for the BBC - I would often call up the Pronunciation Dept (yes they really had one) and say "is that the pronounciation department?" - they didn't like that at all.
Made me jealous James. I had booked to go to Skye in early May then the C word happened. I was thinking for rescheduling for Oct but wasn't sure if the border would be closed so I have done what you suggested and booked somewhere 'inspirational'....The Lake District! Oh, by the way...my research on The Fairy Pools indicated to get there early but if not that most people stop at one of the early waterfalls and if you walk on past those the crowds thin out a lot. I am hoping to get to Skye next April or May...fingers crossed.
James Popsys getting onto the ridge is doable by walking /easy scrambling from various places but a lot of the actual summits require climbing skills ( ropes etc). Plenty of guides on Skye who’ll take you up but there are plenty of photo oops from the places you can get under your own steam.
Been to skye last year - absolutely loved it. however, our neist point trip was way more packed, my drone shots look a bit more crowded. Solid advice in this video... again!
Very jealous, would love to go back to Scotland again one day. Totally agree spending money trips is more important than gear. Unfortunately, my personal situation means we're unable to travel. BTW loved that tractor and old shack image, my favourite subject matter.
Was Emily reading Wilding by Isabella Tree? I LOVE that book! And the bit about beavers really stuck with me! I think I made a vid talking about it. I basically haven't shut up about beaver reintroduction since reading it.
Love your channel James, you’re a natural comedian which makes for a fun watch. Never in a million years would my wife get out of bed at 4.30am to accompany me on a photo shoot! Hahaha! Cheers!
New subscriber to your channel and really enjoying it, i wonder if you have any advice for someone who suffers from chronic fatigue. I am an intermediate photographer and love it immensely, but find it sometimes difficult to do long trips. Thanks and great content.
If anyone has any insight on beaver populations please let me know. There's someone in my household who would be interested... Thanks for watching 🙂
I was actually amused about her story, but in my local area beavers are actually known to be vitally important for maintaining wetlands and a host of other biodiversity. So I agree with Emily they should re-introduce them back into the wild. (I am quite certain she knows more than I, but figured might as well add some fun info for anyone who reads.)
That said, beaver fever is a real thing. You need to watch out if you drink from water where beavers are.
Our government made a landmark decision meaning Devon's beavers can stay after a successful experiment on the River Otter! I thought it was just me who was interested in this. :D
I have some nice hats made from beaver.😬
@@wayneashton hopefully the same happens in cornwall
Big shout out to Emily for her endless patience.
She is, absolutely, adorable.
where is Emily's channel!?
@@JimiCanRead She's too busy keeping James at bay to run her own channel xD
Emily is a "keeper"! Anyone that has patience with your photography AND feeds you is a rare and special gift. Always try to give her what she wants.
It is always a relief when new James comes around and you can just stop everything and just enjoy.
Thank you 🙂

😂
This is just the best RUclips channel. Ever.
Thank you 🙂
@@JamesPopsysPhoto It's very homey. Makes a great break from the usual.

Ah awesome, the new "James video" has arrived. Always a highlight of the youtube week . Excellent & entertaining as ever fella. 👍👍
Cheers Matt!! 🙂
Thanks to both of you for a great video that was both fun and informative. Wonderful location and images. Its a 10/10 from me.
Great video, I see James has invested in a new jacket, the colour is more toned down unlike the bright orange 🤣. You have such a good and understanding wife! Making sure your nutritional requirements are met for all the hard photography work your producing! I say give Emily a gold medal 🤣
Thanks Lisa! She has many of them! 🙂
Nice one James, always look forward to watching your vlogs, love the humour, you brighten my day no end.
We did The Isle of Arran in February. (Ferry required) pics taken in between and during storm Dennis. A lot of love for the Scottish Islands. All unique in their own way.
It's so beautiful there!! Loved the video! 😊
Absolutely loved this video Jimmy! Wonderful to see Em as well, she’s definitely inspiring!
As always great viewing, look forward to videos every week
Man you are one lucky.....person with your Emily. She does not mess around when it comes to provisioning for an afternoon stroll. Top of the range, James. ;-)
Great pictures of the ilse of Skie.
I agree with "get a trip in rather than a camera" if you need to chose.
On the other hand. Who doesn't like new toys 🙃
Another stunning location. Chatty Lady notwithstanding. Great vid, once again.
G'day James
As always informative and light hearted,i do enjoy your stuff.
Your ending comments though were pretty much spot on about us Aussies,so proud
😉🇦🇺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Beautiful Country, think I'll put it on my bucket list
Emily is a good sport! Congrats James! Great, beautiful content today! Can't wait to see some S5 stuff!
Every time I watch your videos, they include the important things/lessons about photography. A breath of fresh air compared to the dbags trying to sell their camera crap. Please stay true as you are. That's the best part.
"my goal as always is to mispronunciate everything"
James.... It's pronounced mispronounce 😂😂
To be fair, he said everything....
When I worked for the BBC - I would often call up the Pronunciation Dept (yes they really had one) and say "is that the pronounciation department?" - they didn't like that at all.
🤣🤣🤣
Great video. More Emily please. btw You have last year's National Trust sticker on your windshield. ;-)
Ahh enjoy the Lakes mate! 🙂
What a thoroughly delightful piece, with some gorgeous sights, and some sights of the gorgeous Mrs. Popsys.
Thanks for another great video jefe.
Great video, I want to go there now! The loaf story made me chuckle.
Skye is great. If you can get yourself up onto the Cuillin ridge it is amazing up there.
Next time 🙂
James Popsys getting onto the ridge is doable by walking /easy scrambling from various places but a lot of the actual summits require climbing skills ( ropes etc). Plenty of guides on Skye who’ll take you up but there are plenty of photo oops from the places you can get under your own steam.
Retired from the phone company. Office, Beaverton...beaver town...home of Nike sports ware. As always, enjoyed you and the missus.
I just feel good when i watch your videos
Been to skye last year - absolutely loved it.
however, our neist point trip was way more packed, my drone shots look a bit more crowded.
Solid advice in this video... again!
Thank you so much for making me laugh! These videos really help inspire me to get out there and shoot 📷
Love your Videos James keep up the good work :)
I love your videos with Emily. By the way, I actually did wash a poor gekko to death in the washing machine. Felt really bad for him.....
😂 oh dear!!
Another cracking video james . Hoping to get to Skye myself for some G9 images of my own. Thanks
