I've been using this lens since I picked up my first camera. I was finding info on this lens just for fun and I can't believe there's someone who appreciates this lens like I do! I tested out the new ASPH version and didn't find joy when shooting like this lens. Cheers!
THANK YOU for a wonderful review. I bought this lens over the ASPH after reading your review and reading as much as I could about the two lenses. I’ve never shot with the ASPH but it’s always in the back of my mind if I should “upgrade”.
I’ve owned both. The new one is sharper (almost as sharp as a modern summicron) and has less characteristic bokeh and less distortion. It IS a technically better lens, but I never once enjoyed its images. It depends on you of course. This version is classic abs has more flaws in some sense but back to back at least for me, it is THE fast 50. Thank You foe the kind words.
Great review and nice shots. I'm a bit torn as a Sony user that likes adapting lenses. I'd like to own a Leica lens, but I keep hearing how they don't preform well on Sony mirrorless cameras.
Currently deciding between this and the Voigtlander 50mm 1.5 (mark 1) which you reviewed. In your opinion is he VM a worthy substitute or is this still ‘the’ dream 50mm to get ?
Okay, so the Voigt is one of the best 50mm I've ever used: its colour is great, its central 3D feel is great, and its bokeh is very good. The thing is that it is aspherical, meaning it leaves onion rings in OOF highlights, and it shows a less classical OOF rendering. Still, of all modern lenses it is my favourite. The Summilux colours are a bit cooler in ways, but its OOF, general sharpness, ease of use, hood, and more, makes for a total package that I feel can't be beat. I would try both if you can, if not, just run up and down comparisons. The Summilux is my pick, but that doesn't mean that the VM 1,5 isn't as good.
@@marcheminidisc1345 Thanks a lot ! This is really helpful :D. Would you have any experience with MkII versus MkI Voigt ? There is surprisingly little information out there regarding whether they are the same lens internally (probably not) / will deliver the same rendering (maybe?). I know the MkII is noticeably smaller which is tempting. Thanks again for the detailed feedback
@@marcheminidisc1345 Personally I feel it might be too hard to resist the temptation of the Lux :D This feedback confirms what I'd ben thinking really. Voigt sounds amazing also

Fantastic combo with a SL2S for low-light situations (portraits, churches, bars, night photography....)

It is a piece of dust on the outside. I choose this one hands down
