I don't have a scope either. Just a soldering iron and a multimeter. Has worked for me until now as I just do you average around the house electronics repair as a Joe Average.
You can get a used scope quite cheap. Its worth it if you do anything more than the most basic electronics
@@smeezekitty Must be searching in the wrong spots in the Netherlands, because it's relatively cheaper to get a new one than a second hand jobby. The price difference I saw were pretty small to be honest.

heh... fond memories... used to own one myself and i accidentally knocked it over breaking the glass, so i got rid of the glass ring and kept the rest of it.... but yeah, i have tossed one into a corner because of that reason aside from breaking the glass
I took the magnifying glass off and use it hand held instead. Comes in handy for other things too :)

I got this kit a couple of months ago. I had the same reaction. Absolutely life changing.
One note. The sp10 probes can be used as the ground connection, or for DMM connections or injecting signals/power. The two wire connectors on them let you daisy chain then or just put a well placed jumper from one place to another.
Damn you Dave, once i got scope you show something new i need to get... This electronics hobby is worse money sink then owning a boat.

@@Zonkotron The trick from the company side is to have an amazing product. As in this case, it does one thing really well. Don't try to cheat or paper over problems, because it will be called out. On the "influencer" side, we trust Dave to say what he thinks. Heck, even Linus Tech Tips is extremely specific about stating what is sponsored content (read an ad) versus their reviews.

I am nailing down my debit and credit cards right now. WOW I want this. I understand your enthusiasm. This would have saved so much grief over the years.
Im using this kit wit 1x probe for years, i even moded the sharp tip to a rounded pogo pin. [I work with flexible PCBs(Ag on TPU) so sharp tip will go trough the pcb. There a getting-used-to while using this /getting the angle right. But for a R&D and diagnosis its best of the shelf solution.Also PCB Workstation with Nano-Probes by giufini is also a DIY-3D-Print solution!

Most of the time I see gadgets for helping with working on the bench and it feels like "1 off" "dust collector" "trinket", but I have to say, this one made me go "Oh, okay, I'm in!" *especially* when you pushed it down and it locked in place with the spring loading --- winner!

These have the SP10 also for multimeters with 4mm banana plugs.
Nice to see they added oscilloscope probes to their line-up. Ordered a bunch rightaway. Have been using their classic 'SP-10' in conjunction with a normal scope probes, but that was always kind of messy. Actually never cared much for the PCBite holder itself, most of the time I simply stick the goosenecks to a small 0.5kg gym weight or something like that. The probes are sharp enough to maintain position even if there is a bit of movement between the probe support and the circuit board.

Just what I needed, ordered. I'm sure it'll be bery helpful for debugging new Betaflight/FlightOne/Cleanflight/PX4 code on my new SP Racing H7 flight controller boards.

This is a very nice Kit. its on my wish list for2021
I only recently became aware of these magnetic board holders. The downside I have seen demonstrated with the holder style is that is could knock smd components off. A variation I have seen is has a cylindrical concave surface that supports the board without having to actually clamp on to it. I am definitely getting a set of those probes.
I'd like to think, this should be be a main channel video - even with the product plot. Interesting af, I'm really considering to buy that thing now.

I allways wondered how to probe
similar pcb clamps were in a voltlog video few days ago.
Dammit Dave, you're costing me more money! First it was the Ioniq (got my all-electric last month), and now it's these probes! I can do the PCB spring clips on my 3D printer, but those pogo-pin probes are beautiful. On my board, it's lots of test points, maybe deliberate solder mask gaps in early revs, but those are really,really nice. Having a set of those on hand will save me from using as many of my "special words" while debiugging!
That's a bit of well thought goodness. maybe if the business end of the probes were insulated toward the tips (if they're not already laquered) might mitigate the accidental shorting scenario

I got some PCBite probes finally! Unfortunately, I didn't get them from K&A because shipping to the USA was way too much. Interestingly, according to the specs of PCBite, the capacitance and impedance values show them to be incompatible with many oscilloscopes. That includes the Rigol DS1054z shown in the full page slick that comes with the probes. Despite being out of spec for the DS1054Z, they work just fine with that scope.
Wow, those are AWESOME! Would be nice if K&A would put together a package with a couple 200Mhz probes but I guess it can be bought separately. Suggestions on what I should tell swmbo?

anyone who works alone and has to probe more then 1 thing at a time knows how hard it is to just hold a probe steady.... this is perfect, and I check the price, very reasonable!!

Hmmmm, WIRELESS probes huh??? That WILL be handy to have!
Even if you don't have a scope, anything that uses probes could benefit from this. If you have (a) multimeter(s) you're watching voltages with, you could use this. Grab some BNC to banana adapters and you're set. Or clip to the SP10.

Wow I needed these need to probe a circuit to find the runt pulses but I don't feel like holding the probes for hours on end.
I wonder if a blunt probe tip with a notch in it would make stay on the chosen pin even more securely? It might not work as well for such tiny pins, but could work even better as an option for less fine ones.
You say we need it, but I don't see why since my third hand cheap magnifying stand does exactly this for me?
Personally I still would rather just very quickly solder a tiny wire as well. Especially for more sensitive or expensive boards. Also takes like a minute.
can we also talk about how lovely it is to have large color indicators! When I am doing tests I always have more then 4 cables out (pwr, oscilloscope probes, Voltage, amps, etc..) , and its hard, especially when all my wires are on the table to identify which wire is which but those large indicators are going to be awesome!!

I have the PCBite system for quiet a while now and it's pretty awesome. It's a bit on the expensive side, though... I covered the metal sheet with a ESD matt.
Will the PCBite help you with shots under the Targano microscope, once adjusted for the change in depth? Seems like it provides a pretty solid single platform, which you could slide to show different views. Just my 2 tamagochi. Oh! And hot air re-work; with the greater airflow around the board it would cool more quickly! Yep, a force multiplier tool for sure. Need one, but need a lab first!!
Wow, these probes really bite!
I suspect quite a bit of materials engineering went into the support structure of the probes. Making a cable with just the right balance of flexibility and rigidity to stand up like that is non-trivial.
Likely took many design revisions.

Hard to tell...
Dave (or anyone else with these) - have you tried them on the RTB2004? Specified compensation range is down to 15 pF, whereas the RTB2k is only about 10!
This is so handy! I really like it.
But why the massively expensive price? Just a basic setup you could buy 3 nice Brymen BM235 or Fluke MM.
The problem with this massively over-inflated price is someone in China will copy it all and sell it for $5-10 on eBay or Alix.

200 Mhz scope and probe. Yeah, that's good for looking at up to 40 mhz electronics with good fidelity. Has Dave ever done a video on oscilloscopes/probes for today's gigahertz electronics?

Something I've always wondered about those "antenna earth leads"
Is the issue the thickness of the wire, the length of the wire, or both?
The length and the inductance caused by it.
@@EEVblog BTW, you can easily improve performance of these probes by soldering a short length of copper wire to the ground can, or to the exposed gold ground pads on the back side.

EDIT: those prices are fantastic, seriously, $115 for 4 of them, if you got 20 your still under the cost of a good high quality fine pitched probing kit thats far less versatile
