I have a question though - why didn't they use an old plane and reconstruct it or maybe rent a private plane for the shoot? It seems a lot of money to build a whole plane and then to dismantle it..

Would love to answer this question of yours.
They surely must have done the recce and considered the options that you have suggested above where they must have come across the fact that the amount needed in creating a new artificial plane is much lesser than that of renting or using an old plane. The cost for renting the plane is too high. Also, there are various permissions from the government, airport department and aviation ministry if you have to use the real plane for the shoot and that process is time consuming.
Next, talking about the creative freedom. Though they have created the replica of the plane with exact interior, they surely would require some extra space for the moment of the camera. This fact can be easily understood when we see the scenes from the interior of the plane as most of the interior scenes are chaotic and there's lot happening at the same time.
