your reviews are great because you both talk to each other and us how we would be speaking with each other in our homes or post walking out the theatre when watching with friends and discussing post film..."you know what didn't make sense?..."
Having that background the whole time is hilarious
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
25 days in advance!? diabolical *thunder crack*
YES. 😮
😅😮❤
You two are especially funny today. Gives his wife away like he booked an appointment on rover hahahaha
I was thinking the same thing! "A ho in a different area code"! Oh my gosh, I just laughed so loud!
You two are just delightful, for real. I really wish I could just go to movies with you and listen to you go off about them afterward. You're like a cooler version of Statler and Waldorf in the balcony. I am here for it. "A ho in a different area code" ... I laughed out loud at that one. Now I have to see this movie!
That thumbnail 😂
I legit laughed out loud when I saw it. 😄
That's how u orgasm in mars
Lol 😅
Getting Vampired
They are so wrong for that! hahahahaha....
lmao, we need 50 shades of nosferatu
I also think Lily depp is miscast, the previous women who played mina/ellen role are women who are very womanly, voluptous, engaging and sexual, dnt get me wrong she looks good in that era and the costumes/clothing for the story being told. Depp seems lost, frail and like a 12 yr old girl.
"1838 Germany. Speaking English in Germany, don't know why but OK."
"So Nicholas Hoult is a solicitor and his boss tells him 'gurrl, there is this old man in Transylvania'"
"So poor Nicholas Hoult goes out there...and he's warned by the Village People" the lost opportunity of throwing up the "Cruisin'" album cover right there...
I wish Eggers had used some of this dialogue in his movie LOL
“Speaking English in Germany.” 🤣 reminds me of that Valkyrie movie with Tom Cruise.
Lots of Europeans speak English extremely clearly.
“B&$!ch you have three nights to get it together”🤣🤣
💀
This is the first.
Review that i've heard that didn't thoroughly enjoy this film.
Let’s goooo I’m so glad I randomly hopped on RUclips
One of your most engaging reviews. The 1979 version is my favorite. A hypnotic, fairytale-like mood piece. Klaus Kinski and Isabelle Adjani are marvelous.
It's a masterpiece, definitely. I also love the original silent film too - no desire to see this remake, tbh.
I couldn’t pay attention to this one much at all. I was distracted by Joseph’s arms, oh my!!! I-
WHEW! Sorry Nick! 😂
Happy December!
Thank you for your awesome content.
Thank you!
Uff I will really love a review of the AMC's Interview with the vampire from the 2 of you **
Sanity restored
This is the first review that I have seen that wasn't blown away by it, and what is interesting to me is that you compare it to the 79 version, which hardly anyone else mentions. It makes me wonder if the insane fever dream that is Herzog's version just can't be beaten? It's one of my favorite films of all time, and it is utterly terrifying IMO. Kinski just reeks of decayed evil, but also sadness, which is a pretty big feat to pull off. I loved The Witch, and have high hopes for this, but a moustache?? A moustache? On a vampire? Just no - reminds me too much of the original Dracula artwork, which never hit like the Nosferatu characterisation. (Nothing wrong with taches in general but not on my undead!) Great review.
Y'all ain't right for using that background because I couldn't get through this review without obnoxiously laughing at it 😭I'm going to see it and thank you for talking about the 1979 version because I'm long overdue for a rewatch.
Mustache sounds close to Book Dracula
I was able to go to an early screening of the film and Lily Rose did a Q&A after the film. What surprised me was that she spoke about the intention being for her to have more agency as a female character in the film. Didn’t see that…I also agree with your critique of Nosferatu’s look. How is the undead able to grow a mustache??? It was beautifully shot and I’ve never seen the pervious films so I enjoyed the watch, apart from the ending.
Dracula is a moustached monster in the original novel.
Isabelle Adjani is such a special actress. She's absolutely gorgeous and chooses some of the most problematic characters. Love her.
THAT THUMBNAIL THOUGH 💀😭🤣
"...telepathic cyber sex!" LOL
This was the best 5am wake up for work. Thanks for the review! And loved that it was early. Glad you all had a nice thanksgiving
Girl, Gary Oldman as Dracula is so hot! A perfect example of sex appeal even if you're not Henry Cavill
Agree☺️🙏🤣
He exudes sexuality and desire effortlessly. There could have been 0 sex scenes in that movie and it would still be sexy. TBH, I find the use of sex scenes to show sexuality to be uncreative and boring, especially if that's the main avenue for showing it.
You guys are just the best. Pure movie lovers with so much knowledge but you never talk down to us. Thanks for this review. You may not love a film but I never feel like you're telling us what to see or not see. Love the attention to the 1979 film.
Hoe in a different area code!?😂😂😂😂
Y'all did her a bit dirty with that thumbnail
Ah, too bad. I saw The Northman in the theater and it just felt empty to me, but I was hoping this one would work.
this guy is a joke, he is literally the only person who didn’t like the movie
@@Joecal3which guy, there are two?
@@Joecal3 hmmm. I am not a fan of The Northman either.
This is Eggers best film by far.
Aesthetically the best cinematography I've seen this year at a theater.
And the grimey pieces and costumes are a nice twist on the usually pristine Dracula gimmick.
come for the movie reviews, stay for the relationship....
I'm over here not really connecting with any of this ....until I remembered being a bit obsessed with Keanu Reeves 15-20 years ago and he mentioned in an interview that he was reading Kinski Uncut: The Autobiography of Klaus Kinski. I got a copy from my library and read it over the weekend and had my whole mind BLOWN!!.. That man was CRAZY!🤣😂😂
I’m reading it since you mentioned it. He thinks in a very non-typical way. Weird.
Since you mentioned Keanu Reeves, who I adore, but in Dracula, he was terribly cast...
Thank you for blessing me with your background 💀😂
Thank you both for casting holy water on all this mindless deification and hype. Did people miss the reviews from a screening a year ago (VERDICT: Boring, not scary)? But you would think this was a red banner year for horror and all one had to do was withhold The Monster (LONGLEGS ALIEN ROMULUS) until release.day like some parlor trick. Eggers is a boring, pretentious director who strives to be an auteur
the way you deliver "speaking English in Germany, don't know why, but okay" ahahhahahaha
You two are the best RUclips movie review duo since Mike and Jay from Red Letter Media
There's yet another Nosferatu remake starring Doug Jones that was released this year on AppleTV you guys might want to check out. That was in development for a decade even before Robert Eggers' version by a few years as he was working on his own since 2017. I'm like, UGH...why can't they leave the story alone but the look and aesthetics of the other remake looks pretty good and more of a homage to the original as it was done in a way to show what the 1922 version would be if they had sound and better cameras.
That pause at the end before mentioning your podcast and patreon 😂
Great review! I may miss this one in the theatre and catch it on streaming instead. Will be seeing the 1979 version 😎
Watch this one in the theatre, Eggers is one of the most unique voices in cinema today, films like this need supporting, 93% on RT
Nooo. You should watch in the theater . Audience reactions are a part of the fun of movies nowadays.
For example, The Substance was the most fun I’ve had with a collective movie watching experience in YEARS.
i just love how you guys sighted and shrugged thru the review of a movie that most are claiming/hyping to be the horror movie of the year., if not the movie of the year.
This is Eggers best film by far.
Aesthetically the best cinematography I've seen this year at a theater.
And the grimey pieces and costumes are a nice twist on the usually pristine Dracula gimmick.
Hey guys, the photo you chose for background is really disturbing! Great review, as usual !
Can't wait to hear this one 😊
I'll be there opening day! Can't wait.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Listen... I have ZERO plans to see this doggone movie. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this review here. 😆 "Bytch!! You have THREE nights to get yo'self together." 💯
This the one we can hear before the movie, without worrying about the spoilers ;)
Have you guys watch Thirst? The Korean vampire movie?
Thanks for a great and honest review.
Am I crazy to say the studio maybe forced Eggers to dumb the whole thing down?
No way.
This is a passion project.
Eggers said he wanted to make it aesthetically pleasing, but with a grimey filter.
Most "Dracula" films are all elegant and pristine. This film is NOT.
@JG-ts2ud The Herzog film is "elegant and pristine" to you ????
@@mschell8022 The environment, aesthetics, make-up, etc. for a time period that was infested by the plague?
Yes.
@@JG-ts2ud Respectfully disagree, the whole thing looks full of mold, dust, and decay. The rats in the streets, the cobwebs in buildings, the tavern, Adjani's insane eyes and matted hair etc.
"You're smiling [in thumbnail] this is a good sign" 😂 (said I *BEFORE* watching 😟)
ooh! y’all should accidentally post it for like 30 minutes and then take it down 🙂
Good morning, I’m super excited for this movie review!! ❤❤❤
Thanks for letting us know in advance! I had a feeling I shouldn't get my hopes up for this to be a ground breaking vampire movie but at least we have all the other versions to watch lol You guys are the best!
Not the last voyage of the Damita Jo😂😂
I of course haven't seen Nosferatu but when I heard that Bill Skarsgård was Count Orlok I was really, like meh. And not even saying that Skarsgard is not a good actor but seriously, think about most of the movies he is in and the vast majority of them only excel at around 75%. It's like he curses movies. He is like the Afflecks (and I don't mean the duck) but if Ben or Casey is in a movie there is a good chance it is going to be really mid or just boring, eh. They curse movies too
Klaus Kinsky is just the best Nosferatu, hands down
Have Nosferatu from silent movie 1922 and one not silent 1979 have them both not really my taste and 2 boxes include in 1 steel box and one Kinski & Werner Herzog box last really crap had chance sell them both 10 years ago not know why not did it for never see are not against old movies Love Metropolis movie have one with new could scenes in like that so just no K8ndki or Herzog fan are just not my taste of good movies .
Dracula like have many of all kind of versions over decades are way better Bela Lugosi love as child still do also Graphic album Bram Stoker's Dracula There use Bela Lugosi face so nice att alone black and white but so well done a perfect adaptation after orginal book also have and have read so are say that Graphic Dracula Book should everyone love Dracula have in bookshelf such a masterpiece like Think Francis Ford Coppola Dracula 1992 version is that lot like Graphic version for Bram Stoker's book tell 👍
This just looks like a mashup of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Nosferatu. They keep hiding Nosferatu’s appearance, so I will be very pissed, if he just looks like the 1922 and 1979 versions. You guys say he looks like a normal but tall man, but most other reviewers say he has a monstrous appearance. I’m confused.
He absolutely has a monstrous appearance.
Eggers said his intent for this version of Nosferatu was to make a "Dracula" film that wasn't pristine and elegant looking.
Which means he made Orlock look more gruesome.
I have absolutely ZERO clue what these two are talking about...
@@JG-ts2udI haven't seen it yet, but all I've read is heaps of praise. So I don't get it either. With it being Eggers passion project I couldn't imagine it being not great.
Im just here for the pull quote
Omg hi guys! So Nick you mentioned the Hunger with Catherine Deneuve that was such a cult classic! I need to rewatch it. That was a punk rock anthem for me and my emo/ goth friend group lol. Plus David Bowie, Bauhaus , Susan Sarandon, Willem Dafoe among many others are in it. What a sensual movie. 🍿💋
It seems like this film is similar to Mary Reilly where the attempt was made to remake Jekyll and Hyde but the result was so meh it was totally forgettable. Even though the cast was amazing with Julia Robert’s, John malkovich , Glenn close etc but the movie was so dry. But lily rose was not the right person for this role at all. It is disappointing because I really love the Witch it’s one of my all time favorite movies ever however the only thing I enjoyed about the Northman was seeing Bjork play in a role again and I didn’t care for the Lighthouse.
I will probably still sit through this at home and stream it because I’m a sucker for anything period or historical dramas 😎
You guys rock ❤
Oh well, thanks for the warning guys.
Dang, I was hoping for this Xmas horror to be a bop!! Thanks for the heads up you two, appreciate you both!!!!!
They're apparently in the minority, but I'm still going to see it.
So tired of Hollywood nepo babies. Lily Rose Depp is so meh. I don't think she is particularly interesting to watch and her acting is dull, too. I remember being impressed by a young Nick Holt from "About A Boy" with Hugh Grant. He's really enjoyable to watch, if the script gives him someone to do. I'm going to pass on this unnecessary iteration, but thanks for the review!
This is Eggers best film by far.
Aesthetically the best cinematography I've seen this year at a theater.
And the grimey pieces and costumes are a nice twist on the usually pristine Dracula gimmick.
$itch, you have 3 days 😂😂😂
Excellent movie review as always guys
You two were on fire tonight!!!
The Michelle reference!! Right down to the Hello Hello😂😂😂
oooooo! cant wait :)
Christopher Lee's Count Dracula in black and white, and Van Helsing and David Soul's and James Mason's Salem's Lot ... now I'd watch this because I'm going to remember Joseph's description of this Vampire 😅
I just came here to say that I especially liked the eay Joseph said, "Mine." He said it with a sigh.
Wow. Killer Review. I am watching the beast now with Lea Seydoux. Good lord. This is up my Alley.... Thanks Fish Jelly. I don't mind this actor George Mckay. Every generation has these background characters, and he is one of the best imho.
In regard to Nosferatu. The cast seems to have brought this down big time. Klaus Kinsky? The only guy like him nowadays is maybe Nicholas Cage or Jeremy Davies, Maybe Bale could get there I wouldn't doubt it. Interestingly enough I think James Franco would have been an incredible Nosferatu. He is studied in the art of manipulation and seduction, and I think he would have brought alot to this role.
I want to like Nicholas Hoult and from his work in Warm Bodies and Mad Max, I do... But this new batch of his movies, like the last 5 have been forced and not mindful of his strengths as an actor Which I think are his Innocence and Vulnerability and Overall strength of character.... Maybe he is only good in heavy makeup, or as a sympathetic character. Juror # 2 was fine, but.... Still excited to at least see the movie and form an opinion of my own. Tempered expectations aside.
Omg!!!! So I have this new little thing I do. If I watch a movie and heavily critique it throughout, I find your review on RUclips to see if you agree with me lol! I did it with Nutcrackers and I swear we could be best friends if I lived in CA 🤪! Anyway, I didn't see a review for Dear Santa (streaming on Paramount+). Could you do that one maybe? For your best friend Ashley lol! I'm just dying to hear what you think of it.
Dear Santa might make it as secret film for the podcast.
@ I’ll take it!! 🤗
😂 I’m dying. I am not a fan of this director but I am curious about this film.
I feel like Nick Hoult needed to bring more malice and gravitas, and he's just not great at that
The background is killing me. 😂 Yeah I had a feeling... Robert Eggers just has outdone himself with such weird, unique movies. When they announced Lily-Rose Depp early this year... Honestly that was a little disappointing, that was my first red flag, no offense to her. And the stills, and then people kind of went quiet, I just had a feeling it was going to be just another vampire movie.
But it's the exact opposite of "just another DRACULA movie".
Most Dracula film adaptations are pristine and elegant, but Eggers wanted to make Nosferatu look like the plague ran through it.
A shame it's a disappointment. I did have my suspicions. Seems like it should be easy enough to do a pretty faithful remake of a knock-off. Clearly not.
imagine listening to these clowns
It's a completely original version.
Eggers wanted to make a grimey, plague-riddled Dracula film as opposed to the pristine, elegant versions of Nosferatu over the years.
I would love to hear your review about Crimson Peak. Now that went there sexually, even down to the plot twist.
I want to see this movie in the theatre. However I am disappointed to find out it has severe flaws. Based upon your review I would not like the changes made to the story. As for the 1979 version I have never seen it. This October I went to a symphony hall in Kansas City and watched the 1922 version on the big screen with an orchestra. It was a phenom experience. Also "Shadow of the Vampire" is one of my favorites.
This is a more grimey, stripped down version of Nosferatu.
Eggers said he wanted to stay away from the pristine elegance of other Dracula films.
From all the hype regarding this film the big question is will Goth kids love this film?
Robert Eggers fans will enjoy it.
So Nosferatu looks like Dirk Nowitzki?
I love you guys, everyone else is saying this is one of the best movies of the year😮
Thanks for sparing me from a regrettable loss of time and money. I really enjoy your reviews, especially when the film is a stinker.
I remember Keira Knightley's face from the movie you referenced. She def made a choice there.
Shout out to Kaliii for Area Codes
Oh god I hope this is good as I want it to be
* sad trombone sound… not as good
I have to wonder if you two are being too harsh on this one. I guess we can all find out in a day a week and a fortnight.
Talk about early notice 26 days in advance.
Can't wait to see this movie. The director said he wanted Orlock to look like a dead 19th century nobleman. Sounds like it worked.
I’m sleeping already
Oof this review is so disappointing. So far I’ve really enjoyed all of Eggers’ films and was very much looking forward to this. At least now I can go in with adjusted expectations and hopefully enjoy it on some level. Appreciate you two!
Oh damn thought it would be good
Oh no, I was hoping this wouldn’t be like Longlegs which I found very underwhelming even though it was still decent. I felt like barely anything happened in that movie and this looked like it may end up being the same.
It would perhaps have been more sexual, had the director been Lars von Trier.
This is probably gonna rank right alongside John Carpenter's the Thing and David Cronenberg's The Fly as one of the all time horror remakes.
dont forget shadow of the vampire
Damn the plot sounds dumb. Why does Ellen suddenly have all that sexual frustration and repression? Why does her husband gets cuckolded in this? Why did they take away her agency-and gave it to Dafoe who now is the one who reads about how to kill vampire and tells Ellen that she basically has to sacrifice herself?! Why did they make that stupid backstory which made Ellen directly to blame for Orlok coming to Germany at all because she already had a pact with him?!
I liked the Northman and The Lighthouse, however, The Witch was pretty insufferable to me.
The Witch was my favorite. The Lighthouse was also really good. Did not care at all for The Northman.
Why are reviews already appearing, but you are waiting till 12/25? I'm not complaining. Is it because you include spoilers? Or are other reviewers being unethical?
Wow, almost a month in advance? That's egregious work right there. 😂😂😂😂. I'll skip this review until after Xmas lol.
Lmao are they speaking English accents in Germany?? Damn thats a failure on Eggers' part, he's always saying he values "historical accuracy"
well an awful German accent would have made it laughable ....
@tigerlilly9038 I would've thought Eggers would have that in the film then! Look at how they sounded in the Northman or Lighthouse. Both accents were ridiculous.
Just have a German and Hungarian cast, and have the characters speaking the appropriate languages to location
@@tigerlilly9038 Awful English accents that aren't historically accurate to time and place are equally as laughable. The average uneducated American audience seems to think "Victorian South English accent = historical"
@@d.b.2215 Studios will never do this, they will only hire actors who are already well known so they can ensure people will spend $$$ on seeing the film.
Shadow of the Vampire, not Embrace of the Vampire. Not the Alyssa Milano erotic vampire thriller.
Not shocking
My favorite is the BBC'S Dracula starring Louis Jourdan. It's faithful to the book. The scene of Dracula climbing down the side of the castle is still in my mind.
