@Monica Lewis. Well, you are correct about the fact that they’re still kickin’ but I heard a more recent video of Geezer playing Bassically, and he didn’t have the same groove and feel he had on the album. For example Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith plays Sweet Emotion the same live as he played it on the album. Don’t get me wrong Geezer played some great bass grooves on the albums that I’ve copied note for note and his patterns seldom repeat. I noticed the same with Jack Bruce. Wasn’t quite as agile if you will, on the bass, as he was when he was young.
They set the standard for heavy metal bands to follow, but have never been matched by any other. It's always important to note that these guys are great musicians.

In my opinion these three songs right here are just as good as it gets for them, killer songwriting and Tony's best solos I think. He has terrific taste in every one of them, and The Melodies are fantastic. I cannot believe how many memories this brings back when I used to listen to this stuff every single day in 1971. and that Rhythm Section, does not get the credit they deserve.
My friend and I were browsing records in the record shop back in the day. He bought this 1st of Black Sabbath simply because he liked the cover art, he liked the cover art. I bought "The Collection", a 2 tape set when I was 12 at Camelot music in Athens, GA. I played it until it was "draggy" and the tone vacillated up and down. Everybody always wanted to borrow it and I would not do it. Finally, I let my best friend borrow 1 of the 2 tapes. He kept it forever...literally. Truthfully, I think he loaned it to someone else and I lost track of the other one I still had. So bummed about that to this day.
Robert Ooyendyk I seen the original lineup in 2006 at Ozzfest. We took a cigarette pack full of big joints and one line envelopes in. When Sabbath took the stage in the evening, giant thunderstorm clouds rolled overhead as the first few notes of Black Sabbath were being played. Man that was great!
This album was both the beginning of heavy metal and a little look backwards. You can still hear blues and older rock influences on Tony's playing and the group.
Yuri Fyodorov , I get what you mean. Black Sabbath did their own thing, so it's not really fair to compare with Led Zepplin and what they did. Both are great in different ways. Geezer Butler did some fantastic writing, shame that he and Sharon Osbourne did not get along well. btw, it's Tony Iommi * I think the grand master guitarist is probably Eric Clapton, but so many others have brought us so much good music. @Sepher Agon I feel the same way I love Zeppelin but I always was drawn to Sabbath you exactly said however I feel. Sorry not as smart as you really don't know where punctuations go.🤔 Lol
I am also 52 so I know exactly what your saying. First off you just don't think to yourself that someone fifty two years old is going to be listening to this, in fact my step dad used to tell me " just wait until you get to be my age, your going to want a little peace and quiet" all I could think in my head was I would rather be dead than be alive and not like black sabbath anymore. He did a really good job of sending me down the wrong road. At 13 years old I was actually worried about having lost my lust for life and striving for a life of mediocrity by age 45. I doubled up on everything that made me feel young because I did not want to end up like that and apparently it worked. I still love sabbath at double the volume I still drink dos equis beers I still have a copy of we sold our soul for rock and roll (the double album set) I still chew double mint gum I still fantasize about the double mint twins. At this stage in life all I worry about is living life to the fullest because when it's time for me to meet my maker I don't want him to yawn and say so.... I see you got yourself a little peace and quiet. I want him to say holy me where do I start. And I will say you can start with the doublemint twins I've got a lot of apologizing to do to them.
Sabotage one of the greatest all time collection of magical genius! From Tony's mesmerizing riffs that move you to rock n boogie n bang your head to Geezer's superior backbone and insanely beautiful lyrics as well and never least Stinky's heavy as Bonham and delicate as thunder drums and sent to the sky with Ozzy's clear articulated devil sans angelic howls of pure vocalization can I say more

The band was formed and the music was written before they gave it a name. They could have named their band anything and the only difference would be your comment saying thank God there was already a band named Earth and [band name] became [band name]. I guess another difference could have been my grand mother not freaking out the first time she saw their logo drawn on my 6th grade history book’s cover. I wouldn’t have to explain to her that Earth or whatever is just a band name, not a declaration of my allegiance to Satan.
In an Era of all time great musicians - Hendrix, Cream, Led Zep and others too numerous to name - Black Sabbath was as dramatic and awesome as any - Truly Kick Ass from the Core Rock on!
Tony Iommi had an industrial accident when he was 17, losing the tips of fingers on his right hand. He was told he'd never play again. But, he figured out a way to power through it. When he was 20, he played this. Undoubtedly a top 5 guitarist, all-time.
There are a shit load of great bands out there. Floyd, Zeppelin, Maiden, etc. Sabbath is the only band I've never gotten tired of, and for this reason among others, is why they will probably always be my favorite band.... Well them and the Dead.
Kids today have no clue what kick assed true metal really is…..I was 6 yrs old when this came out…My brother handed me the album and said "here kid listen to this" i was hooked…..
Yeah it has blues rock influences but it still sounds metal to me. Compared to metal of today it may not sound metal but back then this shit was pretty heavy.
I vote the album cover to be a national work of art. Quite magnificent in its spellbinding ability to conjure up the dark powers involved in the birth of heavy rock. I also vote Black Sabbath to be the new religion to bring order to a world in chaos.........er....amen
The elite made everything for us. Including this masterpiece...make no mistake ... this whole album has a spell.and it is not created like many people think it was
My all time favorite Black Sabbath tune. Been listening to in since 1972 and it never gets old. lol and I remember my parents and older siblings (who never left the 50's) saying I'd grow out of it.

No doubt the music was Frickin Awsome, but what's got me at least tonite as I look at what was the album cover, How eerie and Macabe was this album cover and this is late 60s no Tech, No CGI, no nothing How AWESOME of a job did this photographer or who ever put this album cover together do.
Geezers portion of NIB is referred to as basically. Its a 4 part song realistically. Its WASP->behind the wall of sleep->basically and finally NIB to close out the A side of the album
I remember buying it at 12 yo in 1972. Rock music and bands were so exciting to find and follow and I was in that tween coming of age period. I read a blurb in, I think, Hit Parade (it was still around) about this new "underground" rock band. The album jacket intrigued me and I bought it. Remember thinking how strange and different it was and Ozzy's vocals so unique. I loved it and was an instant fan. When they came to town in 72' I pulled every string I could with my parents to get me to that concert. One of them being is that my father could not know. At 63 yo, I still play this particular album of Black Sabbath at least a couple times a year.
When you listen to early Black Sabbath it truly is an eargasm.
It’s the only sabbath I really listen to🤘🏼
I listen to their first six albums plus heaven and hell and mob rules.

Couldn't agree with you any more
Every song on this album is gold
The first five or so Sabbath albums are all no-filler classics, at the time the band was a metal music factory with no off switch
Helium Road I would say the first 6 albums.

Look upon you at your trial
Chill that numbs from head to toe
Icy sun with frosty glow
Words that go read to your sorrow
Words that go read no tommorow
Feel your spirit rise with the breeze
See your body falling to it's knees
Sleeping wall of remorse
Turns your body to a corpse
Turns your body to a corpse
Turns your body to a corpse
Sleeping wall of remorse
Turns your body to a corpse, come on
Come on
Now from darkness there springs light
Wall of sleep is cool and bright
Wall of sleep is lying broken
Sun shines in you have awoken
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, come on, I can't fuckin' hear you
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Mr. Geezer Butler
Thank you
The pure essence of guitar, bass, drums and vocal magic
Thanks God there were another band caled 'Earth' and and Black Sabbath became a Black Sabbath.
Earth was another band in Birmingham loool
Ozzy once compared the name Earth to the sound a person makes when they puke lol
They were better way better
Tony Iommi had an industrial accident when he was 17, losing the tips of fingers on his right hand. He was told he'd never play again. But, he figured out a way to power through it. When he was 20, he played this. Undoubtedly a top 5 guitarist, all-time.
Every time I listen to Sabbath it is like I've heard then for the first time. It never fails to disappoint.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘✌✌✌✌💣
It never fails to disappoint... hmmmm I think you meant something else
There are a shit load of great bands out there. Floyd, Zeppelin, Maiden, etc. Sabbath is the only band I've never gotten tired of, and for this reason among others, is why they will probably always be my favorite band.... Well them and the Dead.
Them and TooL and Kyuss 🏴☠️
Geezer's bass is what made Black Sabbath so dark. Jesus that tone is killer.
I agree. Geezer is the hidden Jem in the band. Wrote most of the lyrics to some of the best songs too
One of my favorite Black Sabbath songs😀 Great album!
my first sabbath album as a teenager and was and still is my all time favorite black sabbath album
I still have my album that I bought with babysitting money way back when about 50 years!!
Best of all time, you can hear the blues in it
One of the best debuts
The 1st 6 albums by Sabbath should be considered heavy metal mega classics.
Kids today have no clue what kick assed true metal really is…..I was 6 yrs old when this came out…My brother handed me the album and said "here kid listen to this" i was hooked…..
Should have done that to my brother. He listens to "new rock".
+CynicOfAll This song (or these songs) isn't really metal. This is actually Blues Rock and the last part, NIB, can additionally be called Jazz Rock.
+Manic Maniac You might be right but, really, who cares what it "is?"
It's brilliant, that what it is.
Yeah it has blues rock influences but it still sounds metal to me. Compared to metal of today it may not sound metal but back then this shit was pretty heavy.
Oh yea it was the heaviest in its time that i can remember….
Visions cupped within a flower
Deadly petals with strange power
Faces shine a deadly smile
Look upon you at your trial
I vote the album cover to be a national work of art. Quite magnificent in its spellbinding ability to conjure up the dark powers involved in the birth of heavy rock. I also vote Black Sabbath to be the new religion to bring order to a world in chaos.........er....amen
The elite made everything for us. Including this masterpiece...make no mistake ... this whole album has a spell.and it is not created like many people think it was
Wow i consider myself being lucky my parents have so much of these on vinyl! I've got the album in vinyl and it's just so good!
Black sabbath was great but Led Zeppelin was the best
@@davidhavens3650 Yeah, no
It's 2020 and still listening. Stay well Ozzy, good luck with your battle stay in the light prince of darkness......
My all time favorite Black Sabbath tune. Been listening to in since 1972 and it never gets old. lol and I remember my parents and older siblings (who never left the 50's) saying I'd grow out of it.
This is the REAL Shit-SABBATH 1ST album creates Dark imagery-but more of a connectuion to the music itself Ultra Psychadelic heavyness w Goblins soaring thru the forest nite BehindTheWallOfSleep/Written in ,69 released Friday Febuary 13th 1970.The Stoniest Band ever!!!!! LedBrewStar
One of the best songs ever recorded.
My mother took me to see then in 1970 right after the album was released. Thanks Mom.va beach 1970
What a great mum, my mum hated me let alone sabbath.
What a great mom.
Mine took me to Zep in 75.Thx mom.Youre the greatest
familia es todo bro
I love your mother too
Rocking family. Not many Sabbath fans can say that.
listen to this with headphones! seriously.
Who are the three morons that gave thumbs down? This is one of the greatest records of all time!! \m/
They're the same three (now 5) Hilary Clinton supporter morons who troll about and try to bring down all other great songs and videos! :D
My opinion is if you're a Sabbath supporter, you CAN NOT be a supporter of politics....one side or the other.....
Jesus...can we not just enjoy great music without bringing fu@#in politics into it...if you wanna talk politics go to a damn blog site or something..leave the music alone...
Shawn Chamberlain Correct. - Latino
Kidding
No doubt the music was Frickin Awsome, but what's got me at least tonite as I look at what was the album cover, How eerie and Macabe was this album cover and this is late 60s no Tech, No CGI, no nothing How AWESOME of a job did this photographer or who ever put this album cover together do.
Man I love the transition from wall of sleep to NIB
*Bassically 😉
Im back think ive got the sickness.. yes the sabbath bug is back again, watch out its contagious
Great song, Ozzy is fantastic!! His voice is amazing!
Ozzy, what a guy, what a artist. He was able to see all his music before he wrote it.
Geezer wrote the lyrics, and Tony Iommi wrote the music.
Geezers portion of NIB is referred to as basically. Its a 4 part song realistically. Its WASP->behind the wall of sleep->basically and finally NIB to close out the A side of the album
This is the first album I bought when I was in sixth grade some 40 years ago. Who knew I hit the best album of all time.
The Magnificent Blueprint that started us on this Neverending journey to Metal Mania!
" the visions cupped within the flower, deadly petals with strange power "
My favorite band to listen while riding my motorcycle. Especially Hand of Doom from Paranoid.
Brilliant stuff....first two albums are geniusness.
Man, this album was so far ahead of it's time.
Puro treble booster !!
Aún no había nada de distorsión como las de ahora
🎸😈
Ozzy semplicemente superbo, n1. Butler bassista geniale .
The world was a better place with Black Sabbath in it.
