The reasoning is that he wants to acquire a "beast mode" transformation... not knowing that D&D werewolves also have "soul corruption" as part of the default "superpower pack". -> Too many downsides for an "at will" shapechange & +2 WIS
When they were trying to each memorize one hand sign for the elements it just occurred to me that each of them almost perfectly aligns with an element The Tiefling Bard is fire The Pirate elf Warlock is water The half orc Barbarian is Earth The Druid Halfling is air The Gnome Rogue is void
It kinda makes sense. Ralof is fire because of his fiery, energetic behaviour Maximillian is earth, due to his more calm, quietly spoken nature Trixie is water due to her background as a pirate Milo's more 'peacekeeping' and cheerful personality leads her to wind. Willie is void because he's dead inside.

My Inner Assassin Rogue is going crazy, because you guys seem to keep forgetting sneak attack for the rogue! Anytime there is a friend within 5ft of the chosen attack target, then a rogue gets his sneak attack dmg, even though he doesnt have advantage on the attack
I think the DM nerfed the rogue. on the character creation episode he told the kid he needed to have advantage, but they use flanking rules, but never mentioned the 5ft. rule.
Flanking is an optional rule, sneak attack is not. My interpretation of "within 5 ft" is adjacent. So if flanking is used they would have advantage anyways which might be what was referred to?

Love the void monk, excellent RP! Nice to see how you create a simple puzzle with sheer body language, truly mesmerising. Your theatre of mind is also inspiring for me as a starting DM! The sense of danger and suspense are excellent. Great setting also, curious to see how it all unravels. Personally I also think you should've just let Trixie do her cool spell, *especially* if it means she hits her friends by accident. One warning is enough because such 'mistakes' can offer interesting RP too, imho. It could be a painful lesson, but a valuable lesson nonetheless (even though it could even mean a TPK with those two zombies... but I'm sure you know your way out of such a scenario anyway). I like my DM's hardcore. So if 'being cool' is worth endangering the whole party, then please, go ahead. :) Your decision is very understandable though, since they are still new to the game. And you're right, FU RUclips :D so screw my opinion. Great job players! It's very enjoyable to see how everyone adapts to the mechanics and already experiments with it. And she asked if she could get the others to move. Because she knew that if they stayed there they would get hit. He was explaining to her that she could tell them to get out of the way and on her next turn, after the others had moved out of the way, cast her spell.
never said it wasn't fair. I just said talk about awkward although...i guess it wasn't half as awkward as it probably would have been for Trixie and Milo later when they had to bathe infront Willie :P
Such a nice & patient DM. After the gnome rogue stated at 59:52 that he doesn't comply, I would've said "roll for initiative" and given the party a Surprise Round to convince or force him to his knees, otherwise the archers one-shot the gnome and anyone else who attempted something combative. Teaching lessons about consequences (especially after the double-murder/treasonous poisoning & espionage/grand theft/arson clusterfuck in the previous session), teamwork, problem solving, relative levels of PC and NPC powers (they're feeling invincible at this point and liable to try straight-up attacking the blond elf next, who is likely a higher level wizard), and the danger of perma-death, while happening early enough that they haven't become too attached to their character at 1st Level and could roll up a new one. Maybe too harsh for teenagers, though. Although they all seem like good kids, I could imagine one or more of them quitting after something like that, which is the worst failing of a DM to turn off any players to future gaming. My best DM was a masterful world-builder and lore-teller like Bill, but also ran ruthless campaigns where death was a constant threat if you failed diplomacy with the wrong people or had poor strategic combat tactics, and I've tried to model my style around that. So this series has taught me some methods of taking a lighter approach to new players.
Yes Bill seems to be very patient. I would have had them arrested on the first attempt to poison the "mayor". The whole building should have been locked down nobody gets out of that room. All exits are blocked IMMEDIATELY. So only the person that tried to do the poisoning would get caught. Then the DM could get the others to do something for the "mayor" to free their friend.
As you watch the rest of the series you will see how exceptionally patient Bill is. Some of the characters in later shows are absolutely chaos incarcerated.
Gotta love it. They meet some mysterious guy who they have no idea whether or not is trust worthy, murder two people in public who were following him, then not even six (in world) hours later they're like "yeah, that was boring, let's do something else" 😅😅😅. I'm deeply concerned
49:00 Made me lose it haha, I mean just the lines " The water goddess' titties, they will revive you from your sleep?" just sums up how ridiculous miscommunication can be.
I'll add another comment but stopped about halfway through, will watch the rest soon. I am glad they are realising the errors of their ways in character. Like killing the good guys since they did that without any information at all. That and they didn't just straight up kill the monk guy either. So they're kinda learning as they go.
Adding onto this...Zombies, along with all the stuff that has happened, you are so patient with them it's pretty fantastic. But there to be Zombies...hm. Is this that infection? I do wonder. This is super interesting to be sure, simple stuff but you are making this super interesting due to how you are presenting this.
welcome back my favorite party of future convicts :) Arson, grand theft, assassination attempts, murder, fraud? :P Bill, are you making these kids play GTA? their crime list is beginning to approach mine when i played it.
The monk and the water people are saying the same thing basically you guys are having a pointless debate on who to trust in this scenario at least. The monk may not always agree with the water ppl but he is rn so the real question is do you want to clear your name and find the blonde elf or do you want to go on your way.
If undead and necromancy are going to be fairly regular in this campaign, the players may not be ready to handle some of what they'll face considering the limits on what spells they can know. Zombies and skeletons are no big deal but when it comes to level and ability drain, necrotic damage, and curses that rot you away until you become an slave of the one who cursed you that's different. Without access to cleric or paladin spells in the party some of the spells Carl and Anna choose to know could be vital to protect the party or undo the effects necromancy and more powerful undead can do.
This is great to listen to while planning my own oneshot. I'm gonna play with newbie players, so I hope this'll help me! Will probably use BADASS for nat 20 damage. ;)
two things I would like to say. first Bill you are a great DM. second they play as teenagers of 2018, I mean their characters are this way. They don't think of concequenses, they are playing so chaotic that they should be dead already... I am not even going to mention the troll that is bored already and trying to unlock a box while priestesses are aiming with bows or they are killing zombies in the sewers.
To make sure my warlock could do Eldrich blasts properly, I managed to get a download of Jocat's "Crap guide to D&D; warlock" Eldrich Blast Wav file. It makes our paladin wet themselves every time I hit the play button :-D
When the warlock gets to the 3rd level she should get the pact of the chain since she wants A a cat and B to see beyond the waves (mouth of the pact keeper invocation)
She could also go for Pact of the tome, book of ancient secrets, find familiar. [which would also allow her to see through her familiar, but only within 100ft and not the ability to speak through it. On the other hand it would give her the chance to get a melee cantrip and 2 additional.] (You do mean the voice of the chain master invocation?)
can I ask a DM question? was the party going to meet the 3rd Monk whether they went back to meet the Elf or not? seems like a cool story hook to regroup the party once they got off track. (trying to be a DM and im starting to use my perception role as Im watching your videos lol)
So...it really would have depended on their choices. I didn't force it to happen, but I knew that the monks were tracking the blonde elf, and if the party did the same, they might meet up at some point. IF the party had decided to just blow off the whole blonde elf storyline, they probably wouldn't have met up with the monk again.
Karl: The semi-anti-wannabe-maybe-debatably-murderhobo 😂 Like, I can't tell with this guy, but he does have his good moments! Keep up the ingenuity y'all!!
You will learn more about the Monks of the Void as the story unfolds. If I remember correctly all the D&DwHSS play in the same world but not all of them end up meeting up and interacting with each other.
Being she was a new player and didn't know what it would do, his suggestion was fair to offer. If I was in, I'd let her see how she could have killed her party members.
you watch the first Episode in season 2, and they all seem rigid, shy and reserved. Now they seem so comfortable with each other. This is yet another reason why I love this game.

@@billymiles6870 he planned to have them caught but the dice said otherwise. That's what makes D&D fun. The dice determine your fate.
As you watch the rest of the series you will see how exceptionally patient Bill is. Some of the characters in later shows are absolutely chaos incarcerated.
Carl: "we would expect no less from the all powerful.. vishnu..." *Classic 'The Office' look toward his other party members
oh sick the DM himself likes my comment :') im honoured
Great episode! I especially enjoyed the longer duration. Props to the group for leaving the murder hobo path lol.
Heather you need to remember your guidance cantrip. It's amazing.
Pick a person who you think is right in your team and bolster their rolls.
Gotta love it. They meet some mysterious guy who they have no idea whether or not is trust worthy, murder two people in public who were following him, then not even six (in world) hours later they're like "yeah, that was boring, let's do something else" 😅😅😅. I'm deeply concerned
I stand by what I said in season 1 This has become something beautiful Those void monks seem like cool folk
Entire party needs to learn Mask of Many Faces quick. D&D equivalent of the paint-N-spray :)
He is not making them play anything, they choose to play like that. That's what D&D is all about
When you planned for the session but not enough:
“Remember that guy you killed a few sessions ago? He’s a zombie now”
The monk and the water people are saying the same thing basically you guys are having a pointless debate on who to trust in this scenario at least. The monk may not always agree with the water ppl but he is rn so the real question is do you want to clear your name and find the blonde elf or do you want to go on your way.
Good instincts. Can't give spoilers, but let's just say keep thinking about it and you'll find out if your theory is correct on the next episode.
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Anna: *T I T T I E S*
Yep - that's Anna!
Also Anna you're an amazing artist! Please please draw all the characters some time, that would be so cool.
"Wait, are we allowed to swear on this show?"
....Sean's hopeless......still hasn't figured out that the d20 is used for just about everything
This is great to listen to while planning my own oneshot. I'm gonna play with newbie players, so I hope this'll help me! Will probably use BADASS for nat 20 damage. ;)
"Hey, beautiful!" "You may refer to me as Mother."
two things I would like to say. first Bill you are a great DM. second they play as teenagers of 2018, I mean their characters are this way. They don't think of concequenses, they are playing so chaotic that they should be dead already... I am not even going to mention the troll that is bored already and trying to unlock a box while priestesses are aiming with bows or they are killing zombies in the sewers.
Yes. Truth.
At some point they'll learn to not give the DM ideas :) "I break my arm while trying to throw the zombie corpse."
no matter how experienced, always find players throwing.. "creatice Ideas" lets call it
Bill thank you so much for making this i look forward to this every week.
It makes me excited for mondays to come wich are probably the worst days.
Well, we're grateful to have you. Thanks for tuning in and subscribing!
Anna is really impressing me. She is on it
1:54:00 LOL roll to bath. Oh I rolled a six... *miss misses the water*
Misses*
LoL
that is the least enthusiastic Eldritch blast I've ever heard
To make sure my warlock could do Eldrich blasts properly, I managed to get a download of Jocat's "Crap guide to D&D; warlock" Eldrich Blast Wav file. It makes our paladin wet themselves every time I hit the play button :-D
I'm probably completely wrong about this...but I feel like Bill is taking some of his(awesome) inspiration for this world/zone from NWN2
Mmm, maybe subconsciously for the island, but I made the world in 1998.
Awesome, less murder hobo and more play!
Bill: Do you pull out a saw in front of the priestesses? *quietly* please say that you do
LoL
But i don't have proficiency in walking. Best PC's ever
LoL!
On the other hand it would give her the chance to get a melee cantrip and 2 additional.]
(You do mean the voice of the chain master invocation?)
can I ask a DM question? was the party going to meet the 3rd Monk whether they went back to meet the Elf or not? seems like a cool story hook to regroup the party once they got off track.
"I'm just gonna write it down" YEA!
Karl: The semi-anti-wannabe-maybe-debatably-murderhobo 😂 Like, I can't tell with this guy, but he does have his good moments! Keep up the ingenuity y'all!!
so basically he is a true neutral
@@leviathan1082 true neutral would not be "maybe imma kill, maybe imma not." Thats 100% chaotic neutral leaning evil.
Anna " Lets do an beach episodeeee" Me " I Think i am in love"
Carl looks like he could be a good bard. He looks like he could get all the ladies with his charisma
He is basically a bard in real life.
So...are the Void Monks True Neutral?
kyemt85 I’d say it’s probably Chaotic Neutral because of the lengths they go
You will learn more about the Monks of the Void as the story unfolds. If I remember correctly all the D&DwHSS play in the same world but not all of them end up meeting up and interacting with each other.
Anna has my sympathies, sorry they had to tease her so much I know what its like to feel ill from what people describe or what you see :(
I felt sorry for her not getting to cast arms of hadar😂
Being she was a new player and didn't know what it would do, his suggestion was fair to offer. If I was in, I'd let her see how she could have killed her party members.
you watch the first Episode in season 2, and they all seem rigid, shy and reserved. Now they seem so comfortable with each other. This is yet another reason why I love this game.
Thank you! Truly! Sorry my reply is 4 years late; something strange happened with the RUclips comment settings, and I've only recently been seeing comments from 3-4 years ago.
It's nice to see how they're really getting into it.
These are great to listen to on my long drives, thanks for the solid entertainment y'all!
That's some good railroading there bill
Is it railroading, or is it pure genius....maybe it's Maybelline!
17:20 / "Do you want to see how many quests Bill has? We'll just start a bunch of quests and then leave." 😂 I think Bill would just roll with it for a while then he would get sick of it and railroad you some how. (after like 10-15 of these you would get attacked by a huge monster)
My vinyl of this one track twice has been in so many DM's hands the entire cover is cover first by 25 cent sticker machine tattoos. Then by vinyl stickers, then by vinyl stickers surrounded by glue!
Cutting away their rivals name, gluing theirs.
My "ours" were for the dead.
Do you know what I'm talking about?
That jacket is full vinyl _& STILL PLAYS_
OUTSIDE & made of...even the title earths are tight. = )
I can't post comments on my own comments, yt has decided I lead to some dark hole that all the celebrities try to shadow with brilliance. Fame is not Intelligence.
no mispellings one handed about 1/3 not 1/7 as fast as typing, just about one hundred percent writing, because I have to think before I type.
Ya know? My vinyl of this one track twice has been in so many DM's hands the entire cover is cover first by 25 cent sticker machine tattoos. Then by vinyl stckers, then by vinyl stickers surrounded by glue!

I'm pushing for Bill to hear this, he did some rad music this year, myage...not new,not old

Carl's a good lookin' dude.
Wow. This campaign just got extremely interesting and full of twists.
Carl has 20 charisma in real life
Carl is a master of persuasion, deception, and performance. It was only natural that he play a clever bard with quick wits and a sharp tongue.
@@BillAllanWorld two years later and you are STILL replying to comments?
2 hrs of this, i feel love for DnD
This was so much fun to watch, you all were very entertaining!
Raylof, Trixie and Milo are my favourites
I haven't even started the episode proper and I already sense shenanigans. I'm so excited.
this is amazing! I wish there were things like this around the world
Carl has mastered the art of rigging the spindown dice. There's no other explanation.
This is great. I'm in love with the detail and intricacies of this continent and the pantheon and everything.
"Three gods? No? West Side?" 😂
Just wanted to say nice shirt heather
This is coming form a coloraden
Bro! That's it, game over! Sean is by far, my favorite character! He pulls out some major s*** that makes him a badass! He thinks! That dude has my vote, I wanna play against him!
I’m so intrigued by this void monk. Man, I wish I could play D&D in this world with Bill as my DM.
Well, one of my life goals is to publish my world. I have enough pages done to probably do a Kickstarter, but I'm very detail oriented and I have a high bar for quality control, so I want to make sure the game kicks ass and is flawless before I publish.
@@BillAllanWorld That is awesome! I think I remember hearing you say you wanted to publish it in the Willie side session! That would be something I’d definitely be interested in seeing! How long have you been developing this setting? And how many NPCs are in it? Seems like it’s a really huge world so far.
@@tpeasetiger Yeah. So I started Kikapulan in 1998. It is a planet around the size of Jupiter. I have about 8 of the continental regions done so far, and probably could release the first continent book as-is with no art, but I really want the art. I've found a few artists whose styles match my vision, but I will need to finish a lot of the detailed descriptions of places to provide them with guidance about how things should look. Then of course there's the whole Kickstarter process, because I need the money to be able to make this happen, pay for the artists, pay for the printing and shipping, etc.
Carl is so chaotic evil and I love it so much😭🥰
soo intresting to watch can wait for this to turn into a campaign series kinda like critical role
Mr. Allan, what class do you teach? And how did you go about advertising the d&d idea among your students?
I teach Film & TV Production. It's a repeatable elective, which means it's open to all 4 grades, and students may take the class (for credit) over and over again. Each time they take the class, it becomes more advanced. For example, Sean has taken the class like 12 times now (every semester, plus summer school, plus a few independent studies). It also means that in the same class period, I have students taking the class for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or more times.
