We use melody, a lot differently. Rhythm and harmony is the foreground, not the background element. In Hip-Hop, there are so many subgenres - Jazz, Acid, Country, Alternative, Trap, Gangsta, Pimp, Experimental, Fusion, etc.
Most rappers can sing up to 3 octaves or more, (like Nicki Minaj does ALL her vocal styles (rapping, singing, chanting, yelling, conversing NOT talking, etc.) in harmony layers all the time from Octave 1 to Octave 5 and a Falsetto voice sometimes).
They all even sound different and genre bending in the context of Rap and Hip-Hop itself man.
