About this video:
It’s Day 13 on New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year and our New Zealand Road Trip is taking us into the heart of the Waikato region of the North Island. We stop in Te Aroha which is famous for it’s geothermal activity and its mountain, Mt Te Aroha.
With that, we decide to have a walk through Te Aroha’s geothermal park and to the Mt Te Aroha Track which steeply leads up the Mt Te Aroha! We walk through native New Zealand forest to the Whakapipi Lookout which reveals incredible views over Te Aroha and the surrounding Waikato region. Awesome!
Tonight, we stay at the Te Aroha Holiday Park. Join us tomorrow for more activities in the Waikato region of New Zealand!

Ha ha steep the last half is straight up 😂 I was born in Te Aroha 😂
True, thanks for pointing this out
Good video mate , only your title is cheeky , coz you did not climb the summit , that’s Whakapipi look out . Hopefully this time , you’ve been to the summit . Enjoy
Thanks for the catch, mate! Appreciate your keen eye on that detail. You're right about the Whakapipi Lookout - it offers stunning views, but it's not quite the summit.
For more adventures and maybe a summit story next time, keep an eye on our page and join the chat on patreon.com/nzpocketguide for the latest updates. Cheers for watching!
I grew up in Te Aroha the lookout is actually called Bal Spur that what the locals call it
Thanks for sharing Zayne!
@@NZPocketGuide no worries looks like you had a fun time
@@zaynevanday142 Yeah we love dit!
We had a massive disaster in the 80’s where there was a huge landslide that engulfed the town and killed a family of seven and the whole town was under about 1.5-2 meters of sludgy mud they had deforested too many trees off the side of Mt Te Aroha
My family had moved out the week prior to the next town out Waihou
That was lucky!
@@NZPocketGuide very our house was one of those wiped out
Ha ha this is where I live and you only went to the lookout.(30-45 mins).to get to the top takes about 2.5 hrs for a moderately fit person :)
Thanks for the info :) When was the last time you climbed the mount?
@@NZPocketGuideHi last climbed to the top June 2016. The first 45 mins and the last 45 mins are the steepest on the Mount Te Aroha climb I think. We did the Tongariro crossing in Dec 2018.. Im twice your age though :)
Nice! Never too old for a good hike ;)
same
Bal Spur lookout, was born in Te Aroha Hospital in 1976 Dutch Dairy Farming family
That lookout used to be called Bald spur
Thanks for sharing mate!
@@NZPocketGuide no worries
Te Aroha has a huge Dutch Farming background community
Cool fact too!
Ha ha you guys didn’t get to the top 😂 it’s the steepest part 😂
Looks like we got lucky then haha 🤣
@@NZPocketGuide you sure did it’s almost rock climbing 😂
It's a mountain so of course it's going to be steep its tree covered not like mts on tongariro crossing
Some climbs have much lower gradients though. I think that Mt Te Aroha and Tongariro are some of the steepest climbs in NZ. We love them both!
Did you not climb to the peak?
Yeah, we missed out on that one... Stupid young us... We did it the following year without camera haha...
@@NZPocketGuide nice tramp to the look out then it’s a steep hard climb to the top 😂
@@zaynevanday142 VERY steep haha!
Did you get to the Driving Creek Railway in the Corromandle ?

Nice one! What do you recommend visitors to see in Te Aroha after climbing the Mt?
you can see my house from there
That's cool! Do you go up there often?
