I can't thank you enough for your work. I feel the words of those closest to history have more value than any modern book. It is beyond important to get their point of view, for accuracy of understanding. Ty again!!
Certainly not for accuracy. At least not without modern books. There's a bunch of conflicting tales and sagas about Ragnar Lodhbrok and his sons which won't make any sense without literature helping to understand and debunk them.
There once was a hero named Ragnar the Red Who came riding to Whiterun from ole Rorikstead! And the braggart did swagger and brandish his blade As he told of bold battles and gold he had made! But then he went quiet, did Ragnar the Red When he met the shieldmaiden Matilda who said Oh, you talk and you lie and you drink all our mead! Now I think it’s high time that you lie down and bleed! And so then came the clashing and slashing of steel As the brave lass Matilda charged in full of zeal! And the braggart named Ragnar was boastful no more When his ugly red head rolled around on the floor!
mmmm truly epic. I love these videos! sure the format is a bit difficult to follow. But its so awesome that these words were written almost a thousand years ago!!
Dont know if you will read this but I prefer Jackson Crawfords translation of this poem. instead of we fought with swords he has translated it as "We struck hard with our swords."
This is depicted in "Warriors of the Way" by Harry Harrison, and I am pleasantly surprised to find the author was very loyal to the apparent source material.
Good stuff. Did you watch Jackson Crawford's Krákumál video? He's a fantastic resource for all things Old Norse. ETA: Sorry, I can't help but point out that "Ívar(r)" is pronounced "ee-var". There's another name, "Ævar", which is pronounced like you pronounce "Ívar".
Started watching Vinland Saga..... and then RUclips recommends this😭 ( These names are in the show....Spoiler Ragnar does die), It's not a historically accurate show but nice to know where the inspiration came from
funny how the English speakers butcher the name Ívar and pronunciate it Ævar witch is a different name in Old Norse. ee v ahr would be proper but great video non the less
Blood is important...I'd be careful just giving my blood away though. I also claim descent from Normans. With several million others. That said, make sure your Sons and Daughters know who they are!

Always excellence. Was looking for a merch button - one of the few channels I'd like to be a billboard for. Did I just miss it?

I'd say something but it's common for the internet to disappoint me nowadays.
The most unique and interesting history channel on You Tube. Can't get enough.
Thanks very much! Glad you're enjoying it

How the little pigs will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered.
Glad to see this channel growing
Thanks Scott!
Fantastic as always! Thank you!
Thanks pal!
Absolutely wondeful. Great source material, and great reading!
Ivarr's horsehide trick reminds me of something Loki would do.
Can confirm, have done this to my siblings with a knitted sweater. Honestly, they really should have seen this one coming.
The Phoenicians who founded Carthage did the same trick about 1300 years earlier.
Was searching my head for a Norse myth that had Loki doing just this.
@@andreasgonatas951 bullshit I need sources
Dido done did it.
Ivar and Bjorn: Time to Ragnar-rock and roll!
Sweet!

If the horse skin fits, you must acquit!
"Do you know who am I !?
I am Ivar the Boneless!!!"
I love that scene on Vikings when he's clapping with all the Blood on his face!!
@@iamtroll8334 yeah, me too. Did u see what Oleg did to his brother last night? That was frickin crazy man...
@@nightwarrior2949 oh yeah I seen it! I can't wait for them to go to war!!

It’s a good show I love Vikings and the history of all Vikings and the sons
Thanks for another fantastic presentation!
What a Great series.
Thank you
Excellent. Serendipity carried me here, and I applaud her choice.
Conceal dont feel, Ivar. Also, that tattoo sounds metal as hell

Remember Halfdan and also Guthrum in those times as well.
This is depicted in "Warriors of the Way" by Harry Harrison, and I am pleasantly surprised to find the author was very loyal to the apparent source material.
Epic
Hurrah!
4:12 "A strip of land as great as he could cover with a horse's hide"
Why do they always fall for this trick? It's the oldest trick in the book!
Glorious storytelling, inspiring.
Excellent!
The donkey hide is a RIP off from the story of Dido's founding of Carthage, the only difference is that she used the hide of a bull.
How the piggies grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered
rightly so
But Raganar attacked Ælla first. Ælla was just protecting his kingdom.

@@VoicesofthePast NO problem keep up the good work!
I wanted to create this channel but this guy beat me to it!!😂
Do you have anything on evpaty kolovrat?
I do love sagas
So I assume they threw Ragnar in the viper pit with pen and paper to get his last words? 🤦♂️😂
Started watching Vinland Saga..... and then RUclips recommends this😭 ( These names are in the show....Spoiler Ragnar does die), It's not a historically accurate show but nice to know where the inspiration came from
Vikings is closer to this story as far as Ragnar goes. I don't think the Ragnar in Vinland is the same character as this one either way.
It's the not the same ragnar. Vinland saga is 200 years after this
👍👍👍
Do you have a facebook account where you upload these video's ? Especially those of and about the Norse people ?
Well done Aelle destroy these murderous heathen!!
What is it with this constant wagering of land with animal skins?
funny how the English speakers butcher the name Ívar and pronunciate it Ævar witch is a different name in Old Norse. ee v ahr would be proper but great video non the less
Maybe because a name like Ívarr among the english, would like: Iwhere.
Me coming to this video because of avatar the last air bender font, not disappointed
Our families DNA results lead back to Ragnar's son.
Does that make me better than you?
F'k yeah it does!!!
😏
They weren’t real were they?
I thought they were just stories?
@@sebastianlodge7549 the "sons pf Ragnar" were real, Ragnar himself is more writing into legend though.
Lowkey lyesmith
How did they get their DNA, do they know where they are Buried?
I come from the normans nobles that conquered England.
The noble Lodge family.
I have a golden lion on my coat of arms.
Blood is important...I'd be careful just giving my blood away though. I also claim descent from Normans. With several million others.
That said, make sure your Sons and Daughters know who they are!
Who would down vote this?
Who indeed!
King Aelle
A scheming Saxon I'd wager.
I listened in the dark. I got scared. I had nightmares.
